if there’s one thing ppl take from what happened to james randone, it’s this:

not everyone involved in something you love needs to be an activist.

james ransone made it clear that due to experiencing sexual abuse when he was around eddie’s age, he was uncomfortable discussing shipping or sexuality for his character.

so what did the it fandom do? constantly hound him.

is eddie gay? is he a top or a bottom? what do you think of every sexuality and gender ever? you’re a private person? let me shove this camera in your face and ask you about politics. you’re going through a mental health crisis? clearly it’s time for a debate in your DMs. why aren’t you agreeing with everything i say? why are you mad? are you a bad person?

to be clear, no one will ever know why james decided to end his life. i doubt it was just one thing.

but too many ppl in fandom seem to think that actors owe them activism, and if they don’t accept that role, harassment is the only way to change their minds.

it’s bullshit. it does real harm. and james, as someone who went through the kind of trauma most of the it fandom could barely imagine, deserved to set a boundary without it being trampled so a bunch of kids could feel morally superior.
