Ellen Greene's performance in Suddenly Seymour is my equivalent to the bit in Naruto where Rock Lee takes the lead weights off his legs. I think about it constantly. She's a very good actress, she's a very good singer, but she spends the whole movie in a sweet squeaky falsetto until Suddenly Seymour when she opens up the gas and reveals that actually she has the voice of a winged, horned-helmeted valkyrie and then - and this haunts me - quietly packs it away and never goes that hard again for the rest of the movie. Just shows us a fraction of her true power, turns directly to the audience and says, "I could if I wanted to," and happily skips away. It chills me to this day.
