I apologize in advance for the person I will become when the BLLB graphic novel comes out and we get a substantial amount of Henry content because you will not get me to shut up
i love a morally grey ruthless woman who will do whatever it takes to achieve her goals (that she believes are for the greater good) and is also constantly wracked with guilt about what she's had to do but can't show it so she just comes across as cold and unfeeling to everyone
wait now that he’s appeared in the graphic novel i can finally do shit like this
right so i’m fairly ambivalent to henry’s appearance in the graphic novel because. ok let me cite my sources
here’s some excerpts about his appearance:
Blue Lily, Lily Blue, Chapter 26: “An equally astronomical and glittering black-haired boy [...]”
The Raven King, Chapter 6: “He had an unforgettable tuft of styled black hair and a pair of high-top sneakers that could only have looked more expensive if they had been wrapped in dollar bills.”
TRK, Chapter 17: “He had taken enormous care with his appearance. His toga was tied with more care than any tie Gansey had ever knotted, and Gansey had knotted a lot of ties. He was wearing the most chrome watch Gansey had ever seen, and Gansey had seen a lot of chromed things. His black spiked hair strove frantically upward, and Gansey had seen a lot of things striving frantically upward.”
TRK, Chapter 32: “The driver wore a watch that even Gansey would have considered gauche. The driver had hair tall enough to touch the ceiling of the car. The driver was wearing big black-framed sunglasses despite a notable lack of sun.”
TRK, Chapter 38: “Henry did not blend in — he reeked of money from his snazzy jacket and Madonna shirt down to his black sneakers [...]”
so from the way he’s described, his sense of style is basically just that he’s 1) flashy and 2) filthy rich. he’s astronomical and glittering. he does not blend in. i was not imagining blue sargent levels of not blending in but i was imagining something. just a little bit of sauce. maybe a bright color or two. at the very least i’m ok with jeans & a t-shirt if he’d look like he’s perfectly willing to watch video games playthroughs in his underwear. so imagine my surprise when he shows up in the blandest outfit imaginable
Henry Cheng in images this comic omg. Big news for the four people who have him in their brain at all times.
I can’t get this thought out of my head.
Henry Cheng is is to Gansey what Joseph Kavinsky would’ve been to Ronan if they’d become friends.
Walk with me.
Kavinsky was a distorted mirror image of Ronan. They were both dreamers, they had both lost their fathers, they both had a reputation of being “bad crowd”, they both drove cars like maniacs, they were both wealthy, they were both impulsive and had little to no regard for consequences. Their difference was that Kavinsky never had anyone in the role that Gansey filled for Ronan. All his friends were fragments of Kavinsky’s own unstable mental landscape. Prokopenko and the rest were all dream creatures and thus were exactly what Kavinsky wanted them to be. None of them could properly push back. Everyone else either feared him, hated him or ignored him. Therefore he never learned restraint the way Ronan did and ended up falling into addiction and such.
Henry Cheng was a distorted mirror image of Gansey. They’re both extremely wealthy, they’re both popular at Aglionby, they both had the habit of saying accidentally offensive things, they both knew how to act according to their status and they both had a specific traumatic event in their childhoods that significantly altered their lives (dying from the wasp stings for Gansey and being kidnapped for ransom for Henry). Their difference was the way the people around them treated them and reacted to them. Henry’s mother was controlling and she got her own child involved in a very dangerous and very much illegal situation where he was under the threat of harm. Gansey’s mother and father were both loving people who may have been occasionally distant but always made effort for their children. At school, despite being popular, Henry had to constantly keep up certain appearances and come up with new things to keep his social status whereas Gansey, despite him also acting, had a much easier time doing so since he grew up in an environment that taught you how to do it and now to separate your actual personality from it.
The reason why Henry didn’t become bitter and self destructive like Kavinsky was that he found his own crowd. The people he could be himself around no matter what. The Vancouver crowd from the Litchfield house. Where Kavinsky got stuck inside his own head, only spending time with his own creations and extensions of his own mind, Henry found himself a group of people who were likeminded and similar to him in healthier ways.
I don’t know if this made sense but it’s what I’ve been thinking about
Henry cheng is so cunt
aprilwitching replied to your post “I have discovered the only thing worse than Will Patton’s Kavinsky…”

There wasn’t a part of Farooq-Lane that wasn’t on fire, as living and vivid as the brushstrokes of the portrait. Farooq-Lane, Burning.
(semi) annual henry cheng - seondeok thing
ps. edited out the orig because [things] bothered me. but you can find it here: bluesky
you know how gansey functionally went deranged after his first death? what if it's the same after his second one? what if henry, with at least some psychic background, knew to expect it, knew to nudge gansey away from the rest of them because gansey would never want to be seen like that by adam, by ronan, by noah... what if the 'road trip' is a thinly veiled excuse for gansey to go full HarrowTM, curled up on the floors and barely stopped from clawing his own eyes out.
he has good days sometimes -- they look at the woods, at silly attractions, let gansey feel better until the weight of rebirth hits him again. and then its damage control, holding him, forcing him to eat, accepting him as he effectively goes through death-withdrawals. it's at one of henry's properties, wild swath of grass for the good days, isolated enough to muffle screams. people try to reach them during td3, definitely, desperate employees of seondeok insisting that it is a matter of the entire world, of all the Roads, we need you in Boston--and it's henry saying he doesn't give a damn about the world right now, he will not let his friend suffer. it's blue shrugging off the pleading look she's given, following henry out of the foyer, because if the choice is gansey or the world, it's really no choice at all.
it's the both of them gently nudging gansey into the most cramped room in the house when everything gets too loud for him, its them letting gansey crush their hands in a painful grip as his body trudges through the ischemia, adjusts, adjusts. it's taking turns so gansey doesn't get overwhelmed. it's putting aside everything for love, for friendship.
he may have come back wrong, because there is no resurrection without consequence, but he has support, and that love is there to nurture without condition
