Oregon based artist Morgan Rosskopf describes herself as a āvisual hunter-gathererā. In other words, her surreal, carnal works are mostly driven by her own intuitions. Her illustrations on paper combine hand-drawn elements and collage to create lush clusters of personal imagery: a messy, knotted assemblage of fragments, from the sweet and savory to bodily and grotesque. āHunting and gathering images is both subject and method,ā she explains. āI believe that all my images already exist; I just have to find them and rearrange them.ā

Scheherazade never had any guarantee that her strategy wouldn't one day fail and end in her death, but she did know that the thousand wives before her died because they were being held up to an unattainable ideal. Scheherazade's stories paint a complex, flawed and fascinating portrait of womanhood, and they do so not to protect her own safety, but to protect all the potential wives that might come after her. A Caliph who lusted after a perfect myth of women could only ever be disappointed; a Caliph enraptured with stories of women both beautiful and flawed might one day love a woman for real.
