Satellite, Nick Lake
I’m having major issues reading this in a serious voice, when I’m able to I like the book a lot, the premise is interesting and the wording is good. But then the narrator doesn’t capitalize “i” or uses “ur” or “u’re” or “&” or a sentence starts and it’s not capitalized. I can’t stand it, lowercase is for texting. It reminds me of the people who are qUiRkY (obsessed with being different to the point of being annoying). Maybe it’s just me, maybe some people think it’s cool, but so far not my cup of tea grammar wise. I just can’t picture my narrator as anything but immature, maybe it’ll get better as I get to know the narrator, but my inner voice for him right now is annoying and my opinion on him that he’s whiny, annoying, and immature, but I still have hope for this book.
Ok I’ve reached a point where I can read without the bad grammar overshadowing the book, I still don’t really like the protagonist though, just the way he says things is kinda emotionless except for complaining, which makes him whiny, but still very early on in the book.
Why does he always think about where people would go missing when he introduces them???? Like once and it’s creative writing, thrice in a row and it’s redundant
Ok, he’s getting a lot better, I’m really starting to enjoy this book, but I’m gonna take a moment to appreciate the casual non heteronormativity that is going on here, Mr. Lake really did it right.
The beginning was rough, but as I reach the middle, this book is actually stunning, I’m getting wrapped up in it, so I might not update till I’m done
