Fly my Qiflings!
I'm about to do commissions and irl work shenanigans and idk if I'll be able to finish this AKSMKSSM
I don't think we've actually seen Coco's future yet.
Remembering this adult Coco vision from chapter 88, and I have alot of very jumbled thoughts/theories about it.
The Coco here is clearly wearing *Qifrey's* cloak, which would make you think that her adult self is going to be more like him (and also raises red flags about Qifrey's fate). But, keep in mind, this vision comes from *Qifrey* telling Coco about her future, not Coco talking about her own. This isn't a sneak-peek for the readers, this is what Qifrey personally thinks the future holds for her. This panel also doesn't show her face, which could just be for mysterious flair. If I was Shirahama I also would not randomly drop a full adult Coco design with zero warning, but I also believe it's meant to show that Qifrey believes that this is a future that he's not going to be present for :(
This Wouldn't be the first time we saw a character try to predict Coco's future instead of her predicting her own, too. Brimhat Coco is the opposite of the Coco we know. Covered in a series of chaotic spirals instead of her signature straight lines. This could be to show that this potential future Coco has gone completely off the deep end, yes, but it can also show that this portayal of her is *out of character*, and merely a vision of those who believe this is her fate. The above panel is from Utowin, and like, no shit one of the km is gonna be a little biased.
The only time Coco specifically references her potential brimhat self (that I can recall, at least) it's portrayed specifically as something that could've happened, and not something that will.
Now, with all this talk of characters predicting Coco's future self for her, what does Coco herself see?
Well uh. Nothing. When Coco talks about her own thoughts of the future witch she's going to become, we don't get any potential future visions. Simply the Coco of the past, and Coco of the present. Her description of who she wants to be is admittedly very similar to what Qifrey thinks, but it never portrays his *vision* of her future self as correct.
With the amount of emphasis Witch Hat puts on Coco forging her *own* path, making her *own* choices, becoming her *own* witch, I truly believe that its not out there for me to think that both of the potential futures we've seen for her are not fully correct, and that her true adult self is going to be a surprise for all of us.
Also random thought I had while writing this just now: Qifrey's future Coco is wearing his white cloak, and brimhat Coco is wearing a black dress. Do you. Do you think her actual cloak design is gonna be grey

quick sketch during class
I think this is my favourite qifrey frame in the whole manga
I admire shirahama as a writer so much, she's always working in narrative mirrors and parallels and foils and sets them out there so skillfully. the scene immediately before this is tartah forcing coco to speak even as she's weeping and breaking down and trying to pull away, and here we have coco entering the scene so angry and determined but the moment qifrey expresses to her (a bit manipulatively as is his wont lol but also truthfully) that talking about this is actively hurting him, she all but makes him stop/forces him to pace himself. because she cares about him. she catches him at the kind of shitty defensive thing he's doing to push her away and she calls him out on it and he actually manages to get his adult brain back on for her to comfort her. (which includes 'yes, you're right. I'm sorry', and for all his faults I think his consistent capacity for that is one of his most redeeming and sympathetic qualities and also part of what makes him such a good teacher at the end of the day.)
as far as 'I'm literally twelve and had one of the most trauma packed days imaginable and to cap it all off I just found out my beloved mentor slash father figure has the terminal tree disease I just watched very nearly be the horrific end of my friend and he's being a bit pass agg about it tbh' goes, I think this is about as well as this conversation could have turned out haha :')
i'm a big sucker for a diegetic piece of art/literature serving as a mirror to the story's characters, so naturally the illustration of the poem about a silverleaf tree falling in love with a star from chapter 47 of WHA *had* to be redrawn as Qifrey and Oru ✨🍃

Qifrey in Hades style
been replaying hades 2 lately so marriage of my two interests
The qiflings need to use their status as grand apprentices to get what they want. One of them just needs to drop “grandmaster Bel” or in really desperate times, “grandpa Bel”, and they are going to get everything they want and more.
“Grandmaster Bel, could you teach me lightning magic?” - Instant yes. Who cares if Qifrey said they’re too young?
“Grandmaster Bel? I was wondering, could you ask the cafeteria to serve that soup from last week again? It was really good.” - that soup is getting served every week. He couldn’t care less if people get sick of it.
“Grandpa Bel, can I decorate your chair with ribbons?” -Of course! Put all the ribbons you want.
“Grandpa Bel, we all got grounded by Master Qifrey and Master Olruggio for running off and getting ourselves in danger. Sorry we can’t visit you.” - time for Beldaruit to flex his title and formally request them in the Great Hall
“Grandpa Bell, could you make Mr. Easthies go away? He’s scary.” - immediately calls Vinanna “you tell your apprentice to leave those poor children alone. He’s terrorizing my grandchildren for no reason.”
Their birthday and holiday presents are just trunks of dresses and magic tools and books. Rare casting agents, fancy sweets, and the newest tomes are sent to them regardless of Qifrey’s complaints of “you’re spoiling them”.
The children now get “allowances for their hard work” but it’s really just bags of money every time they visit.
“If I could hold you for a minute, darling, I would do it again.”
Continuing the Orufrey brainrot and Procreate practicing, now with a soundtrack of my playlist for these two. Sketching directly on top of pose refs is making this whole art-making process so much more enjoyable. Should’ve been doing that long ago.
“If I knew that I was never meant to be saved… I would’ve stayed far away from you—
The sky’s kindest, most radiant star.”
