Doubts

I just finished watching "The Sign" and I regret not watching it earlier. Nowadays a lot of BLs that I watch are just for the sake of finishing them after some episodes so I was gradually losing interest in the genre altogether. But, 'The Sign' was truly something else.

Connecting mythology so beautifully to a story of substance. It covered corruption, victim blaming, gender stereotypes, mental health issues and what not. It was more than just a BL. Each episode had me gripped to the story. Although I regret watching it so late but I am also glad that I could binge watch it (including the special epsiode) without waiting for the next episode.

But, I do have some doubts that I hope some of the avid 'The Sign' watchers can clear.

The first being- is it kind of like a "My Stand in" situation where Babe is playing the character of Wansarat instead of Freen for better understanding of the past story. Because the whole gender thing was really confusing,

(barring the exposed chest that I had seen someone write about since he is playing the role of a female but then someone said it's historically accurate in terms of dressing)

And my second doubt how did Tharn and Phaya reach this cave? Considering Phaya was helped by his brother what about Tharn wasn't he saved by Chalankorn?

TW: Mentions of rape, sexual assualt, violence and suicide.

I am currently watching "The Sign" and I never thought that I would see an episode where sexual assault had it's repercussions. The way this topic was addressed along with the discussion of corruption in the whole justice system was commendable. These are topics that need to be addressed yet are often overlooked in this world.

There is a very thin line that divides patiently waiting for justice and taking justice in your own hands. I have more often seen news of victims ending their lives or receiving no justice due to the way the justice system works than I have seen the culprits being punished. More often than not these victims fall into the clutches of this system leaving the bereaved behind.

Until when should we expect the bereaved to wait. For how long should we ask them to have hope in their eyes when they see the culprits being dismissed again and again.

And, when the same people take justice into their own hands they become criminals. This is a social issue that will always remain up for discussion until the justice system improves.

But, I am really glad that 'The sign' chose to address this topic in their episode. The way it showed how Narong patiently waited and asked for Lin to wait for justice too but once Lin took her own life, the thread of patience inside Narong snapped. And, it snapped in a way that he lost all control. The only thing he could see was revenge for his sister. It felt like poetic justice to see the rapists suffering the pain that they inflicted on a person.

Was his method right or wrong? I don't have an answer for that. But, I do know that justice delayed is justice denied.
