it varies. my jarthur smut consistently has evil outlines that are hostile to human life, and my current big bang fic has a very strong outline that has carried me to the fields of elysium, and literally everything else i do is entirely vibes based. good luck @ me

waaa I think I'm very good with emotions! and, when I let myself plan it out in advance, I actually really really love how I do plot and reveals. it's been nice getting to spend more time with that this year

WELL I JUST HIT PAGE 210 OF MY HANDWRITTEN BIG BANG FIC. SO THAT FEELS HUGE. also genuinely this year has been crazy for me in terms of writing. I'm finally letting myself do whatever I want and that has somehow resulted in like 5 published fics this year which is genuinely unprecedented

I just got back from the MalEvent. Or malevolent conference. It was just amazing seeing folks and being able to hand out my mini ravioli Johns (made of polymer clay) and seeing photos of them across the world. And my roommates lovely stickers!
It was a truly magical experience, and I am so glad to have met so many great people in person! And go to so many great places and drive around Toronto and gah! I now have a giant scrap book container of all the other trinkets I received. :)
Anyways, I'm thinking of maybe making more mini johns and selling them for shipping + a dollar or two. Would folks be interested?

Once again, I am pedaling the Dungeon Crawler Carl audiobooks to fellow audio drama fans. There is an audio drama for the series, but it's not as caught up. And despite it being an audiobook series, it ruined every other audiobook for me by being too good. Jeff Hayes is a wizard.
The premise? An alien apocalypse turns the world into a giant dungeon that is streamed across the galaxy. Now, the remaining humans must try to survive their way through the end. It follows coast guard veteran Carl and his ex-girlfriend's cat GC, BWR, NW Princess Donut the Queen Anne Chonk. Oh, and she can talk and shoot lasers out of her eyes.
Wait wait wait! Don't leave. I know it sounds insane. I put off listening to it for so long cause I did not think I would like it at all. I'm not really into video games. But it got *me* hooked. Also, it's really funny and gorey. And at first, you might think that's all it is.
No. Beyond the AI having a fetish for Carl's feet and the meth war between the llamas and goblins and all the other insane, weird shit, there are about a dozen heavy themes. Most importantly, the resilience of the human spirit. (And blowing up politicians. And killing rich pricks. That too.)
The series is dark (dare I say bordering on horror), but it's a breath of fresh air. The protagonist is genuinally a good guy (and not a white knight), the objectification of characters is not limited to women, and it's never boring.
And if you listen to the audiobooks, yes, Jeff does all the voices. Even Princess Donut. It's mind bongling.
I've always said this series is actually horror masquerading as comedy.
Second this recommendation. I've never been a fan of audiobooks, but I listen to a lot of audio dramas and it was sold to me as a similar experience. Did not disappoint. Jeff Hayes the narrator is super talented.
Mixed in with all the dumb humor is some genuinely emotional moments, especially as the series progresses. Also strong anti capitalism themes about fighting oppression & exploitation.
It also has one thing I always love in media, and that's lore. I love where there is the immediate story happening to the main character, but we slowly begin to realize there is something bigger happening out of view. Then as the reader we get to take all the little hints and clues and create a theory board.
