A song fic about Joel and Lizzie in my au! Yayyyyyyy!
Something For Nothing
Lizzie Shadows, soon to be Lizzie--if she and Joel finally got around to getting married--Smalls, was bored out of her mind. She was sitting in her--it was Joel's car, he owned it, but she used it more so it was basically hers--car, in a creepy dark alley, at midnight, doing nothing but waiting.
Waiting for the winds of change
To sweep the clouds away
At least she'd recently gotten the radio fixed, so she could listen to music. The last few nights she's been forced to sit in silence. Ugh. But that afternoon she'd managed to get a new one and replace the old.
Waiting for the rainbow's end
To cast its gold your way
A Gem and the Scotts song was playing. At least Lizzie was pretty sure it was a Gem and the Scotts song, it was hard not to recognize the unique way the drummer played. She doesn't think she's heard this particular song before though. Must be newer.
Countless ways
You pass the days
Lizzie sighed, tapping her fingers to the beat. This was taking longer than usual. If she didn't know any better, she'd assume her accomplice was caught. She did know better. She waited for the signal.
Waiting for someone to call
And turn your world around
Honestly, she was wondering what they were doing here anyway. This place hardly had anything of value. It was a stupid mom and pop that opened about a week ago, in a place with possibly the least foot traffic in the city no less. They can't even have made enough money to steal yet.
Looking for an answer to
The questions you have found
It wasn't her job to question things like this though. It was just her job to drive.
Looking for
An open door
Just then, a man ran around the corner. He opened the car door and jumped into the back, slamming the door shut behind him. "Drive!!" He yelled. Lizzie floored it.
Oh, you don't get something for nothing
You don't get freedom for free
"What happened to the signal?!" Behind them, in the rear view, Lizzie spotted a man in a suit with a gun. She swerved right as the man was about to shoot, but the right side mirror was shattered. She swore under her breath. "You got caught? How did you get caught?"
You won't get wise
With the sleep still in your eyes
Her accomplice sat up and started rummaging through his bag. "Unlucky, I guess. He wasn't even supposed to be in the building!"
No matter what your dreams might be
She rolled her eyes and kept going, checking to see if any other inconvenience was gonna rear its ugly head tonight. Her accomplice removed the stupid black ski mask he wore, revealing his easily identifiable green steak that Lizzie's told him to get rid of thousands of times now.
Just then, out of the corner of her eye, she spotted a glint of light. She took a sharp turn left, speeding down the street. A moment later she heard a gunshot.
Lizzie once again sent Joel a glare, not keeping her eyes on him long enough to see his reaction. Dumb stupid man, she thought, Getting caught and getting in trouble. He was so lucky she loved him.
No, you don't get something for nothing
You can't have freedom for free
"Did you at least get what you were looking for?" She asked, glancing over her shoulder at her fiancé.
You won't get wise
With the sleep still in your eyes
He gave her a wicked grin, pulling out a stack of documents. She gasped when she recognized the signature.
No matter what your dream might be
"Is that?"
"Let's discuss this later."
What you own is your own kingdom
What you do is your own glory
Joel shoved the documents back in his bag haphazardly, probably crumbling them. Lizzie shot him a glare, he smiled sheepishly.
What you love is your own power
What you live is your own story
"Be more careful with those if they're so important! We skipped date night for those." She scolded.
In your head is the answer
Let it guide you along
"Sorry sorry!" He laughed, glancing back. "I think we're in the clear."
Let your heart be the anchor
And the beat of your song
Lizzie quickly hid in another alleyway, putting the car in park and turning in her chair to face Joel. "So.. are those what I think they are?" She asked, curiosity overtaking her better judgment. She really ought not to be asking questions.
She was just a getaway driver after all. She wasn't involved in this- in whatever Joel was getting himself into. She was just doing him a favor. As any good fiancé would.
2112 is the fourth studio album by Canadian rock band Rush.
Released on April 1, 1976, the album features the seven-part title suite written by Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, with lyrics written by Neil Peart telling a dystopian story set in the year 2112. The album is sometimes described as a concept album although the songs on the second side are unrelated to the plot of the suite. Rush repeated this arrangement on the 1978 album Hemispheres.
2112 is one of two Rush albums listed in 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die (the other being Moving Pictures). In 2006, a poll ofPlanet Rock listeners picked 2112 as the definitive Rush album. In 2012, the album came in at #2 on Rolling Stone's list of 'Your Favorite Prog Rock Albums of All Time', as voted for in a reader's poll, being one of three Rush albums included on the list (the others being Moving Picturesand Hemispheres).[2]
