Most thought Kageyama Tobio to be a hard man, never allowing harsh emotions to break through his even harsher exterior and stubbornness. However, it was easy for him to involuntarily slip back in time, dragged towards the memories and worries that were created during his earlier years. It was a price he involuntarily paid, being that good at the sport and having that much passionate determination came at a cost: being loved.
Even now, with Hinata at his side, he constantly relapses to the trauma. He knew his companion tried so hard to help -and he did-, he told him constantly of his affections, trying to distract him or erase those worries.
But sometimes, even good intentions or normal conversations have a disastrous effect, then it becomes impossible to hide from your demons.
----------------
"Can you smell it?"
"Shut up dumbass, I'm concentrating."
"And I'm anxious! How long do you have to take to check?"
Kageyama strained to hold the red-head still, gripping his shoulders with as much force as possible without hurting him. His face was mere centimeters from Hinata's neck to get full access to his scents. After a few minutes, he shut his eyes and moved back to stand correctly. He didn’t want to open his eyes, didn’t want to see the expectant look he was sure was spread across his lover's face; when he did, sure enough, it was there. A faint blush speckled under Shoyou's wide-eyes with a slightly trembling lip, a expression so adored by the ravenette that he would have smiled if he wasn’t about to deliver such disappointing news.
"You're not pregnant."
Guilt pierced Tobio's heart at the crestfallen boy in front of him. They had been trying for a month now, the emotions slowly getting darker each time they checked. At first, Hinata would laugh it off, saying 'next time'. But now, he would show his disappointment, his frustration about the subject. The setter tried his best, but every time he would crane his neck down to smell his beloved, there was nothing that screamed at him that the Omega was carrying his child.
Hearing a sigh, his attention was brought back to the downward turned head, a group of orange locks shining pointedly up at his face before its owner looked at him.
"Well, your sense of smell has always been incredibly shitty."
About to make a impulsively colorful comeback, he didn’t get the chance as Shoyou didn’t waste more than a few breaths before continuing.
"Do you think... there's something wrong with me?"
As grief crossed the middle blocker's face, he couldn’t sink into the emotion before Tobio's gruff voice broke through his thoughts.
"Dumbass, the only thing wrong with you is how stupid you are. Idiot Dumbass." A hand harshly patted Hinata's back, the Omega knew it to be full of encouragement and endearment.
"We're going to keep trying, stupid."
---------------
A flash of light.
A ball that soared.
Faces that seemed so familiar.
A wall too high to fathom.
'King'
A selfish reality broken.
Kageyama woke abruptly, though his body barely moved in the bed. He slightly shifted, uncomfortable by the sheen of sweat covering him and the anxiety lingering from the familiar dream. Turning over to look at the other person in bed, his heart calmed only slightly at seeing the love of his life sleeping peacefully deep. Usually he ends up on top of or wrapped into some part of Kageyama's body, but tonight the Omega was ungracefully sprawled under the messy covers.
My Omega. The ravenette's lips pulled into a tight line, the most natural action that could be translated to a smile from the Alpha. A move that went unnoticed by himself. The setter would never admit to anyone of the romantic, sappy or cliché thoughts he could have, especially the ones about Shouyou.
He slid himself out of their bed, heading to get some fresh air on the balcony, not keen on going out the door and being a little too far from a certain defenseless red-head. The cool air glided across his warm skin, causing a pleasant shiver to run down his neck.
The still moment pushed the setter towards looking over the past years. Kageyama and Hinata had moved in together a few years back, just after graduating high school. They still kept in touch with almost all the people they met during their time on the team, even the ones neither was too fond of had become friendly acquaintances.
Ghosted breaths left Tobio's lips as he heading back inside, pushing all thoughts away to force sleep. He shook his head as he crawled under the duvet, knowing better than to let nostalgia swallow him into this dark abyss of a night. Luckily, drowsiness had not left him yet, hurrying to rest before his senses fully returned. He curled towards Shouyou, regretting not staying up till the middle blocker came home from a late night out somewhere. His body had relaxed, till his dull nose caught a whiff of his lover. His sense of smell may have been one of the worst and diluted in Miyagi, but any Alpha knows that smell.
The odor of another Alpha lingered on his mate, very strongly too now that he was paying attention. They must have been touching everywhere on him. If that didn’t bother Kageyama enough, he knew exactly who it was. How could he forget such a person from his past, not notice the smell sooner?
It was Iwaizumi.
And where Iwaizumi was, so was his mate.
Oikawa Tooru
The setter gritted his teeth, knowing that if he didn’t hold back his angered pheromones then Hinata would wake.
Why? Didn’t Hinata love him? Didn’t he give Shouyou everything he could? Was it not enough? Kageyama's head was spinning, it made no sense; Hinata wasn’t the type to cheat when things got tough, none the less, what did Iwaizumi have that Kageyama didn’t? The omega knew how much went down between the three, he wouldn’t have gone to them if he wanted something he knew Kageyama would give if the alpha tried hard enough.
He could give him a baby
Tears slipped silently down his reddened cheeks, torn between anger and sadness. He turned over, moving as far away on the bed as he could and tucked his limbs in like a child. Grief tore through the alpha as he fought from hiccuping or making sound. He didn’t want to understand, didn’t want it to be real, memories of their time together and the happiness he felt flew threw him, burrowing an invisible knife deeper into Kageyama's heart at every smile, every touch and call of his name that replayed in his head.
It was dark in that room, the world calm and quiet as the night passed on; a comfortable red-head snoring softly as the other suffered through a devouring betrayal. Both unaware of the world around himself.
----------------
The morning lights softly floated through their kitchen, giving the surrounding area a look of serenity. It would have been an incredibly peaceful atmosphere, if it weren't for the obviously disgruntled ravenette boring his deadly eyes through the wall. Hinata walked in, blissfully unaware of the mood his lover was in. He turned to Kageyama, looking him in the face and getting his attention.
"We need to talk." He said pointedly.
Tobio gave him a side-long glance before turning back to his original view, the only conformation Shouyou needed before he took a deep breath to continue.
"I went out to see people yesterday, that’s why was out so late."
Kageyama's eye twitched. "No shit Sherlock."
"Kageyama, we need to face it. We've been having trouble conceiving. I knew we would need help, so I went out to see some people who actually could--"
"Of-fucking-course you did.
Hinata stopped, he cheery yet serious mood changing. "What's that supposed to mean? What's your problem?"
" You're my problem. You think I wouldn’t be able to tell who you went to see? Iwaizumi and Oikawa fucking Tooru arent exactly people I would forget, none the less their smell all. over. you."
The ginger sucked in a breath."Kageyama, let me explai--"
He turned towards Shoyou, losing all composure. "No. You don’t need to explain, I get it. You think im a defective alpha that can't even fuck you correctly, so you went to another who could. I just didn’t think you'd stoop low enough to go to someone whom I had so much of a past with, not that I even expected you to do such a thing in the first place."
Kageyama picked up the smell of distress, but he pushed back the want to comfort the man who broke his heart. "Kageyama, please--"
"No! Stop! You’ve ruined me! I'm sorry I couldn’t give you a kid but it doesn’t compare to what you’ve done. You know what Hinata? Maybe you were right, maybe it was all you. Maybe no matter how much either me or Iwaizumi did to you we couldn’t get you pregnant. Maybe I should have tried harder, but I think it was you. You should've just. Tried. Harder."
All was quiet for a moment, Hinata's face turned from stunned to heart-broken, before he turned and walked out of the room. The only thing being heard afterwards was the front door slamming and Kageyama sobbing into the counter.
-----
Two weeks past, no word or sign of Hinata was seen by the setter. He tried calling and asking friends, none of whom knew where he was. Work was terrible for the ravenette, but being home was worse. He was drowning in worry and regret over Shouyou, knowing he never should have said that to him. He would take it all back if he could even speak to his lover.
He shuffled down the sidewalk, his body warm behind his winter clothes while he felt numb to the world. Everything seemed grey and dull without having seen his orange ball of hope for so long. He decided to go to his last resort: Iwaizumi and Oikawa.
He walked up the steps of their house, slightly envious of the nice space they had acquired through their well-paying jobs. Taking a calming breath to steel his already numb nerves, his knuckles wrapped against the door. He was expecting a suave omega to answer the door, giving him a diminutive comment, but he was surprised to see a different omega.
His omega, as a matter of fact.
He stood there with his mouth gaping as he and Shouyou looked at each other. It seemed the ginger was as thoroughly shocked as he was, seeing as his mouth was just as open. He shook it off seconds later, giving him a stony look as he reluctantly let him in.
They shuffled towards the kitchen, interrupted by the owners of the house.
"Who was it Shou-cha—oh hell no." Commented the person he originally thought to be answering the door. He strutted forward before he pushed Hinata behind him, gladly standing up to the intruding Alpha. Iwaizumi moved over to his mate's side, not as an addition to his little wall but as to play guard if anything got out of control.
"What do you want Tobio-chan?"
Kageyama's tired expression returned. "I've been looking for my mate. I need to talk to him."
"Are you kidding me? Why do you think he's with us right now? March yourself right back out there and he can come talk to you if he ever wa--"
Oikawa stopped mid-sentence when a hand curled around his arm. He and Iwaizumi parting so Hinata stood in the middle.
"Wait, I appreciate it, but I've been waiting to talk to him. You know that." Hinata gave them an apologetic look as the pair exchanged a glance and walked to the other room.
While they left, Tobio watched Hinata calmly walk over to a couch before sitting down, gesturing for him to do the same.
"Hinata." It came out as a whisper.
"It's been awhile hasn’t it? How have you been?" The ginger sent him a soft smile.
"Horrible, I can't sleep, can't eat or drink or even bathe properly without you being there. I can't do anything knowing what I've done and said."
Hinata let out a understanding chuckle. "I can tell, you look like shit. I was worried, looks like I had good reason to be after all."
"You were worried?" Kageyame squaked. "I've been worried. I didn’t know where you had gone or what had happened to you. I don’t know what I would have done if I never got to see you again."
The middle blocker lifted an eyebrow cooly, a technique he probably picked up from Oikawa. "Oh?"
Tobio continued. "Hinata, I don’t know if you'll even listen to me after saying something like that, but I'm sorry. I'm so fucking sorry. I never should have said something like that about your insecurities."
"I agree, it sounded very... middle schoolish of you. Pretty sure you moved me to tears back then as well--"
"Shouyou, please." The omega's eyes widened a fraction at the rare use of his first name.
"Your all I have, you changed me for the better and still put up with all I had done and gone through. Life isn't actually life without you in it. I was scared Shouyou, I smelt him all. over. you. I didn’t know what I would do now that the one person I had left had destroyed me, I thought if I put my walls back up I could protect myself. So I hurt you, thinking it would help me."
Hinata tried to intervene with his train of thought as the setter sat in front of him now. "Kageyama."
"I know I can't ever fix what I've said, but please. I don't care if you went to another alpha, I don’t care that you’ve gone to them anymore. I need you back, please, I can try anything to give you what you want. I'm sorry if I can't give you a child, we can find a way for you though--"
"Kageyama--"
"If you truly feel it's best then we can look to Iwaizumi for help, you can have his if you want. I understand--"
"Kageya--"
"I'm defective Shouyou, But I need you and I know he can give you what you need. Please just don’t leave me--"
"Tobio."
Kageyama looked up from where his head rested on his lovers knees, his sobbing quieted when he heard his first name being used. His eyes widened to not only see tears dropping down the gingers face, but a bright smile there as well.
"Hinata?"
"Tobio, I'm pregnant."
Hinata was surprised to not see a smile cross his mates face, but guilt and sadness wash over it instead.
"What's wrong?" He asked as the setter nestled his face back into his legs.
"I'm happy for you." Came his muffled reply.
"Kageyama, you don’t look happy."
"No, really I'm glad for you. Im glad Iwaizumi could give you that in such a short amount of time when I couldn’t in all the time we worked for it."
"TO-BI-O"
Kageyama looked at him once again.
"It's yours."
"What?" Kageyama sat there gaping like a fish as Hinata continued.
"It's all your's. I never slept with Iwaizumi, I wouldn’t want anyone else but you. Ever."
Shouyou chuckled as Kageyama tackled him softly, being mindful of the life he was now aware lived inside his lover as he nestled his head in the crook of his omega's neck.
"But what about the smell? I never smelt it on you, yet I was able to smell him all over you."
"I came to Iwaizumi to be checked to see if I had any problems -he is a doctor you know- and he had told me I had already been pregnant for awhile. You and your defective nose probably couldn’t tell because we hadn't started paying attention until a few days after I was pregnant. You're so oblivious, you couldn’t smell it because it was already there when you started checking so it seems normal, or at least what little smell you could pick up did."
Hinata stopped when he felt his alpha tremble. Thinking he was crying again, the middle blocker was about to shush him when he heard his chuckling. He looked down at the head of black hair shocked, he had never heard Tobio make these sounds before. Kageyama's quiet chuckles turned into jovial cackles, looking back up to his Omega with a face full of awkward smiles.
"Thank you." Kageyama said breathlessly.
"What for?"
"Thank you for giving me a life Shouyou."
Hinata smiled as he leaned down to kiss his lover, whispering upon his lips endearing words when they parted for breath.
"Thank you for being apart of mine." He said before they locked lips again.
--------
Oikawa and Iwaizumi stood at their front door, sending off the two reunited mates. They watch their forms leave the grounds and slowly disappear around the corner, two absorbed with each other to care about much else. The owners of the house stood there a little longer, now just admiring the quiet and serene atmosphere.
"You think Tobio-chan noticed all I've done with the landscaping?" Oikawa spoke up.
Hajime scoffed. "You mean all I've done. You just sit there ordering me around."
"Rude. You and I both know you love it when I order you around."
"Ha. Bullshit, nice try princess. Now come on, I gotta finish making pancakes since a certain omega won't touch the batter."
"Iwa-chan, what if it got in my hair?!"
The alpha stepped back inside, holding the door as he waited for Tooru to do the same. His expression turned more serious again as he watched his omega still looking at their garden. Oikawa's façade cracking as he swam in his thoughts.
"Iwa-chan, do you think we'll ever get to share all of this one day with our own children?"
The setter was somehow comforted at the slap he received to the back of his head.
"Ow, Iwa-chan! That's just mean--"
"I know we will idiot. Now let's focus on those pancakes, before I just dump the batter on you instead."
Light screaming and complaining could be heard in the area as their front door closed, even through chaos, serenity and happiness could be seen all around. Two brunettes had a 'batter war', and a ravenette and ginger closed their doors as well, welcoming the start of a new beginning.
(TRIGGER WARNING- mention of violence, do not read if cannot handle.)
Most thought that the roles should be reversed.
Though they never really thought about it.
Until a day their roles were important.
"Are you excited for the team's retreat this weekend?" Chirped a redhead.
"Retreat my ass, we should be using this time for practice dumbass." The ravenette contorted, he wasn’t willing to admit to the small group travelling to school that he was excited for a week at the beach a few hours away.
"Jeez baKageyama, I know its Monday but at least you can be a little more cheerfull." Hinata gloomed for a few seconds before Tanaka joined in and his bubbly mood returned.
"Ahahaha leave him be Shouyou, he's just getting grumpy because he doesn’t know how to confess to someone." The small bunch snickered at the setter's flushed face and the strangest expression that crossed Hinata's: something that was a mixture of confusion, dejection and hope.
"Speaking of confessions..." The shaved head turned towards a now very panicky ace, a maniacal grin spreading across Tanaka mein and a blond first year who was enjoying the sight.
"Asahi." The brunett was sweating through his uniform faster than light.
"Our sweet Alpha ace, have you managed to tell him yet?"
The ginger omega had a miniature spasm. "Asahi-senpai likes someone?!"
Tanaka let out a hum of confirmation. "But hes been too Omegan to confess to AN ACTUAL OMEGA."
The team didn’t like how he used the term so derogitorally, but they knew he didn’t mean anything by it. They were all quite frustrated by his lack of confrontation to a person who they all knew would be happy to be with him. Asahi had to silence everyone with promises to get around to it as the team member in question ran up to join their small passe.
"Morning!!!" The new figure said, sliding in-step next to Asahi and Hinata, oblivious to the relief excreting from the Alpha.
The Azumane glanced over at Nishinoya from time to time as they chatted, the second year's jovial expressions always left warmth spreading through him that remained till the next time it could be refreshed. The libero was so small, yet acted with all the confidence and purpose that Asahi did not. He never backed down from a challenge- usually never needed to either-and was happy to be anywhere at anytime. Asahi knew he wanted to be by the side of no other, but would such an amazing Omega ever want such a defective Alpha as himself?
Well, he could try. He could be more Alpha if he wanted.
Asahi decided, he would try to impress Noya until their trip, then confess.
He will try.
-------------------
A few days had passed and the ace had finally worked up the courage to visit Noya and Tanaka during lunch. He figured he had to start working on his image, so he felt that probably the easiest thing would to be to help them with homework or pick up some books or something he had dropped ('romantic' ideas he got thanks to Yachi introducing him to romance novels and fanfictions).
He figured books would be easy to pick up, he just wasn’t expecting it to be desks.
The moment he opened the door he was greeted with the Omega and Beta's voices booming over a literal pile of desks about how amazing it was and how they were so screwed when class started.
"N-Noya-san? Tanaka-san?" The Alpha quipped, unsure what to make of the situation. Their faces popped up from opposite sides of the pile.
"Asahi!!!" They boasted together. Making their way over to the third year. Explaining that they wanted to make a fort during the long lunch today but cant get the tables un-tangled.
The Azumane swallolwed nervously. "D-do you want me to do it?"
Their faces spun around after admiring their handy-work. "Can you actually?! We can't figure it out worth for shit." The two second years began laughing at the recent memory.
"I can try. It doesn’t seem too difficult." The brunet mumbled as he walked over to the chaotic stack.
Slowley but surely, the 3rd year straitened the objects out, setting them in their correct places as Noya and Tanaka made comments like "Woah!" and "Amazing Asahi!" throughout his little show. His natural strength and height made it easy to complete the task, something that was obvious to Noya and Tanaka but not to himself. By the time the ace finished, he had ten minutes before lunch ended, meaning he had to get back to the third years' hall to prepare for his next class. He felt defeated, he came to impress Noya but wasted the chance. The duo jumped up to him, their never-ending excitement showing on their face before they could even speak, restoring the warmth inside his body. They began to express their gratefullness in bounds and leaps (literally) before Noya stopped to voice a thought.
"I forgot to ask Asahi, why are you here for lunch?" His head tilited to the side.
"I-I just thought I could be of some help to you guys, but we wasted the lunch. Sorry I couldn’t do more for you." Tanaka wore a knowing grin that made Asahi want to leave faster before something was said. Noya however kept him alittle longer by his shocked answer.
"Wahahaha! What are you talking about? You just helped us!" The Alpha didn’t know wether to take it as praisal or just Noya stating a fact, but he felt pride swell as he finished the conversation to head to class. After the door closed, Tanaka turned to his companion in crime.
"Bro, do you even have the ability to blush?"
"Ahahaha, probably! I've just gotten used to handling myself around him!" He boasted as they made their way to their seats.
"So his handling of his strength like it was nothing wasn’t worth blushing over? Didn’t make you want to confess?"
"No god, its super hot. But I want to wait until he would be ready to accept my feelings."
"You'd be surprised Noya, he's getting there." Tanaka finished, deciding not to push him any further and changing the subject to their recent favorite passtime: snacks and throwing insults at the defective vending machine downstairs.
---------------------
It was the next day-a Thursday-,when Asahi got another chance quicker than expected. He was on his way to practice when he heard a commotion, which held the voice of one he treasures most. As he rounded the corner, he came upon the sight of Suga fretting over Tanaka and Noya whom were currently stuck.
…half-way inside a vending machine.
"U-Umm..." The sound cause the current conversation to end, all heads turning to the brunett.
"Asahi!" They all exclaimed; Suga out of relief, Tanaka from surprise and Nishinoya from happiness.
Suga spoke up over the two spurting random comments. "Thank god you're here, can you help them? I need to go distract Daichi before he heads this way." Asahi gulped at the thought of how Daichi would react to this situation. He nodded before Suga swiftly left the scene.
"You know something tells me our vice captain wanted to go see Daichi anyway." Tanaka blurted, reminding the Alpha of what he was supposed to do. The Omega trapped next to him laughed as Asahi made his way over.
"True man, they have it so bad for each other." The Ace began to feel uncomfortable about what the conversation might bring up.
He cleared his throat while he got to work at getting Tanaka's head unstuck from the door on the bottom. "So... Why are you guys stuck in the vending machine?"
Noya scoffed. "Because this machine is evil." Asahi chocked back some spit.
"W-what?" He had gotten the Beta's head free and began working on the Libero's arm.
"This thing is a conspiracy, it almost always jams up or halfway drops the food. So Tanaka put his head in to see where it was, and I fished my arm in there to try and push him out. We're lucky you came, that thing was trying to eat us." Noya finshed with a laugh as Asahi began to focus on his arm. Tanaka had long since left, heading to help distract Daichi (who both Asahi and himself knew that Suga didn’t need help, but he wanted to help Asahi get some alone time the Noya).
However, Asahi couldn’t find it in himself to make proper conversation; he enjoyed hearing the omegas voice in the background, but he couldn’t get his mind off of the feeling of their skin touching. Noya was small, his limbs thin and smooth, and built well with lean muscle. His head was clouded, his subconcious only registering the warmth he gave off and the Omegan smell Noya was able to hide so well. Sure there were times when Asahi couldn’t help imagining them living together, a warm house full of kids. But he felt guilty everytime he thought anything less than pure about Nishinoya, that’s why he always tried to avoid such thoughts. The Alpha was only knocked out of his small stupor when the second year began yelling his name.
"You alright man? I've been calling your name and you seemed out of it."
Asahi set down delinquent's arm, nervous about how long he might've been holding his now free arm like an idiot. "Yeah I'm okay. Sorry about that."
"The fucking vending machine probably did that to you." The 3rd year wasn’t sure if Noya was trying to play it off or was being serious. The libero stood and offered his hand, even though it wasn’t actually necessary.
"Come on let's get to practice."
Asahi took his hand anyway, appreciating and savoring the contact of their hands. He didn’t think about letting his hand go until they got to the gym, claiming this small guilty pleasure as "he forgot to let go".
Nishinoya didn’t mind.
------------------------
During practice that day, everything had been going smoothly. However, Asahi's mind was in turmoil.
The storm that had been raging through his mind was about how he only had one day left to court Nishinoya, and he felt he hadn't done anything substantial in the quickly ending week. He was frustrated and disappointed in himself as the ball passed between courts, wondering why he can't Alpha up and woo him properly. The thought crashed through his head many times that maybe Noya didn’t see him that way.
He didn’t like that thought.
The ball flew from Suga's setting hands during their practice match, moving into alignment with the brunett getting ready to spike it. He had to focus on the game, he knew Noya didn’t like it when he wasn’t trying or half-assing it. He began to clear his head when he jumped for the ball, calm and ready before another thought popped into his conscious.
What if he has his eyes set on someone else?
A moments rage filled the alpha, his face contorting in anger and jealousy as his palm harshly connected with the ball. He was so blind in his moment of violence that he didn’t see the object fly past the others dodging it, too afraid to hit something that ferocious. Only Noya was daring enough to try and recover the ball, but it held so much force that when the material slammed into his forearm, it threw him back into the ground. The Azumane still wasn’t in his right mind when people were yelling at Noya, until the person in question let out an Omegan cry of pain.
Asahi's head snapped up to look at everyone beginning to crowd around the Libero and let out a roar of his name. He didn’t register that he had already begun to run toward him, only feeling guilt and urgency. Anxiousness soared threw him as the others moved back to make way for the upset teammate. His heart tearing at the sight of the 2nd year laying still on the ground. The Ace curled his body into his own, checking him for wounds while unknowingly extruding a intense smell of territoriality. He couldn’t hear himself screaming at Noya to wake up, or the people around him talking about getting the first aid kit. His mind and body only set on the sound of the person he was holding's heartbeat and faint breath. His own heart almost stopped when the Omega grunted before opening his eyes, his face long gone with the srewed up look that pain brings, and now brightly flushed. He let out another small Omegan whine when Asahi pulled him closer. Embarrassed and slightly turned on by the scents the man holding him was pouring out.
"Are you alright?! Oh god why would you try and save that? Fuck, I'm so sorry." Noya was brought back to reality by the one he desires' quivering voice swearing and the tears in his eyes.
The delinquent hopped up to his knees to be eye to eye with him. "What're you talking about? I'm fine! Don’t worry about the ball, that was great! Start hitting it like that more ofte- oh come on! Don’t cry! You're too kind of an Alpha, I'm really okay, you big softie!"
Many emotions were going through the ace; he was getting too distracted to cry by Noya rubbing and patting his arms like that, beyond glad that he seemed alright, and dejected at the fact that he had called him a 'big softie'.
All of his worries were layed aside though when he was put in charge of wrapping the Libero's arm while the others continued the match. His main priority was the small conversation they were currently having and making sure his ligament was okay. He kept wondering through the small talk though why Nishinoya's face was so red. Worried he might have a fever, he asked.
"Noya?" A small grunt heard was his confirmation to continue.
"W-Why is your face all red? Are you getting si—OH MY GOD DID YOU HIT IT EARLIER?!"
Noya laughed, unsure what to tell him until he could figure out a proper response.
"You don’t know? You've been acting Alpha like CRAZY. How else am I supposed to react?"
Before Asahi could put two and two together that the Omega was blushing, he pulled him back onto the courts to finish their game. Hoping that the Alpha would figure it out on his own later.
-----------------
It was Friday evening and very few were still around the school. Most clubs had finished up their meetings and practices, leaving a few wandering strays and a group of volleyball players slowly gathering to get on the bus. Time was ticking away in the peaceful environment, yet they couldn’t board.
Why?
Because a certain Libero hadn't come to the bus yet.
Most would have thought that maybe he was sick today, but that wasn’t possible since: A. they had just seen him at practice; B. he would have called in sick if he actually was; and C. no way he would ever miss something like this, even if he was ill.
Tanaka paced back and forth, wondering what was taking his best friend so long. He know he went to get them some snacks from the stupid vending machine, but it shouldn’t take THIS long. He pondered going to check on him, but discarded the idea when he looked over at a very impatient Captain who would most likely not be happy at the thought that he wandered away as well. He glanced over to see that the only other one who he could ask (Hinata) was currently preoccupied with arguing with Kageyama over something. He smiled in passing amusement, knowing it was just their childish way of communicating and getting attention from each other. He almost asked them if he could be their best man not-so-jokingly when he stopped, the subject bringing another option to rely on come into his head. Hopingly, the delinquent moved over to the team's ace, knowing he'll agree to anything if Noya was involved.
"So um Asahi..." The fretful Alpha turned to the voice.
"I'm pretty sure Noya was eaten by the vending machine this time."
"W-What?" Asahi kept his voice down, knowing Daichi would flip if he heard that they couldn’t board because Noya was hungry.
"I'd go save him from it, but I don’t think Daichi would like it if I slipped away too."
Tanaka held back a laugh so they wouldn’t draw attention to themselves. Asahi let out a hum of agreement before slipping away to go retrieve their missing teammate.

Asahi walked briskly to the well known location, wondering how he was going to confess to a person he had failed to impress all week. Well, more like all two years that he had been there. It was true that he had his eyes set on him for that long. Ever since his second year, when he first met the Libero, he was sure that such a small omega would be wary of him, but Nishinoya closed his suspicions immediately when he spoke loud and proud in front of him, not worried of who or what he was right off the bat. In fact, he always encouraged the Azumane to be more, to be confident and to depend on him- an omega- and all of their teammates. He knew then that this person was the one for him.
Asahi smiled at the thought, warmth flooding his heart at reflecting on everything the delinquent has done for him, before that same heart was filled dread. No, not because he was losing confidence in himself to prove worthiness- but because of a much worse reason. He heard shouts of an argument not too far away, including his beloved's voice.
And his beloved's usually charming scent clouded over with anger and worry.
And the scent of other alpha's.
Asahi glided around the corner, confused as to what was happening. He was shocked to say the least.
Two Alpha's hovered over Nishinoya, grinning from ear to ear as they grabbed and fondled at his body. Noya was doing the best he could to fight back, but he had gotten the same arm that the 3rd year had injured yesterday stuck in the goddamn vending machine again. He was obviously trying to not jerk his arm around too much, it was easy to see it was harshly bruised and that the libero was trying to move it around as little as possible to avoid what was probably searing pain.
"Get the fuck off me! I'll kill you!"
One of the Alpha's chuckled. "Oh? And how are you going to do that? Your stuck inside a fucking vending machine you idiot. None the less..." The other squeezed his leg until he cried out in pain."you should obey an Alpha, or we'll make you see otherwise."
Asahi snapped into action just as one of them had moved to slide his hand into Noya's shorts. His voiced boomed across the premises in a deep roar, pheromones already rolling off him in impossibly thick waves.
"Get your fucking hands off my Omega before I end one of you." Long gone was the shy and caring Alpha the Azumane always was, instead replaced by a carnage seeking beast, ready to tear out the throats of the opposing Alphas rising to their feet to stand to his challenge.
"What, this one?" He said kicking him, a muscle in Asahi twitched, begging to demolish them when the Libero's arm hit something, causing the omega to yelp. "I don’t smell you on him, obviously means you're too neglecting to care or you haven't mated him, meaning he's free for grabs. And besides..." His shoe lifted to collide with Noya's back. "he's defective, no good Omega would ever defy an Alpha. If you're not going to enjoy all we can get from this freak with us, then leave. We don’t want anyone ruining the fun."
The Alphas made to turn back to the weakened form, but faced the Ace again when he charged them. Asahi's vocals were deafening to the preparing foes, one moving under his massive form to tackle his stomach, unsuccessfully trying to move him backwards. The brunet's arms' grabbed him smaller body and hurled him to the side, eyes quickly shifting back to the other whose fist was centimeters from his face. He moved to dodge but still got the side of his cheek nicked, he couldn’t feel the pain though, only registering that the Alpha had a knuckle cuff on. He shoved him back as the last opponent made to jump on his back, probably hoping to immobilize him for a few seconds.
"All this, for a fucking Omega?! What the fuck is wrong with you?! Just find another hole to plug your knot up--"
The third year wouldn’t allow him to finish that vile sentence as he threw the companion on his back onto him, the two hitting the ground. Panting, Asahi slowly made his way towards the two who were now panicking at the murderous intent he was easily giving off, ready to spill their blood.
"He's not just an Omega." He held one down under his knee as he began to punch the leading Alpha with every sentence, either hoping to pound the words into him or pound the life out of him.
"He's my friend," A punch.
"he's my family," Another punch.
"the one who taught me about the world," Followed by another
"the one who taught me to believe myself," He moved to the other Alpha.
"who brings light into every. Fucking. Second. Of my life." Another few more harsh blows.
"He's not just an Omega, he's my soulmate." He began to strangle him. "And I'll be damned if either one of you even touch something this beautiful."
"Asahi! Enough!"
The ace gasped and dropped the foe, beginning to shake as he remembered that the 2nd year was watching the whole event. He turned towards him, his heart sinking at the terror in his eyes.
"Yuu..." He slowly moved to stand, hoping not to frighten him more.
Nishinoya looked at him through soaked eyes, his cheeks tear stained with lines from the grime of the concrete.
"Alpha... Help me please..." The second year did his best to choke out the words, effectively getting his companion to dart to his side, sliding into place to get his arm out while checking his wounds.
"Yuu, im here! Don’t worry baby, I got you, I'm here. Goddamnit I'm so fucking sorry. I'm so sorry." Asahi tried not to tremble as he release Noya's arm from the machine. Beginning to gently cradle him while eying over his bruised and scratched up body with remorse.
"Heh, what're you sorry for idiot? I'm fine."
"Yuu I'm serious! You're obviously not fi-" Nishinoya cut him off with a hoarse and quiet voice.
"I'm fine now because you're here. Because you saved me. Because I know how you feel. I'm fine because I know the person I love most is here with me." Asahi wasn’t sure if this was the right time for his face to heat up, his exhausted body to become hot and his insides to explode with joy.
"Yuu, I'm so happy you're safe now. But god, I'm so sorry."
"Weheheh, why the fuck are you sorry?"
Asahi held him closer."Because I wasn’t here sooner, because I couldn’t protect you from them, because if I told you sooner about how I felt then none of this would have happened."
"Asahi no, you’ve done everything fine." Noya continued his reassurances as the Alpha lifted him up, planning to report to Daichi about what happened. There walk back was filled with silence, but it wasn’t an unwanted one; it was calm and peaceful, much unlike the situation that had ended less than five minutes ago.
"You should swing like that during matches, you would kill the other teams' score."
"Yuu! I don’t want to hurt anyone!"
"Well you just did, give it up big boy, you're an Alpha and no one can tell me otherwise." The 2nd year said jokingly.
"...I'm still going on the trip." Asahi grumbled, knowing he couldn’t change Noya's mind but excited for the week ahead with the love of his life.
Some things had changed between them, it was obvious what they considered themselves to be to each other now, but it's not like they had any plans to be marking each other right away-or at least, Asahi didn’t. But they knew what they wanted, they were reserved for each other now. As they were from the beginning, as they always will be. As in love as they were when they met, when they end up marking each other, and as love as they will be when Asahi's wish comes true to have a house full of fiery children.
Most thought that their roles should have been reversed.
That they were defective or weird.
But they never thought about it until the day it was important.
And even then, they were glad to be who they were, because they had each other.
Hearing the depressed tone in Bokuto's voice, the Beta calmly swivled around in the chair his room carried. He would have looked to the door for the unexpected visitor if the captain wasn’t already sprawled across the ground, seemingly trying to disappear into the creamy brown carpet.
"What's wrong, Bokuto-san?"
"How do you tell someone you want to be mates?"
This would have surprised the setter if he wasn’t expecting this dilemma. He found it slightly amusing though that Bokuto was asking someone who did not have a mate.
"Kuroo wants to be your mate. You shouldn’t be worried."
"THEN WHAT DO I D--"
"Tell him."
"I DON’T KNOW HOW TO DO THA--"
"Plan something nice, then, tell him. You're our captain after all, I'm sure you can figure out someth--"
It's amazing how such a small amount of positive talk can boost the Alpha's pride up enough to not even let Akaashi finish the sentence before he was out the door, sprinting down the street about 'how he is amazing and how amazing his amazing declaration was going to be.'.
The Beta turned back around, the scuffing sound of his pencil the only thing to be heard as he continued his homework. The sole thing to distract him now was a alert his computer sent him, reminding him of something important yet easily forgotten occurring a week from then.

Kuroo was confused.
Confused about Bokuto's actions? Yes.
But even more confused as to what was going on.
"Bro? Where are we?"
"Going out to eat of course!"
"I get that but...."
Kuroo's used to spending his free time with the Alpha, none the less eating whenever they went out. Even if Kuroo was Omegan, he could easily keep up with the absurd amount of eating Bokuto did at their typical back alley food joints.
But a five star restaurant?
"What do you want to eat?"the owlish man asked
"I don’t know, I'm not that hungry today actually. How did you even get us in to a place like this?"
Immediately the ravenette could smell the surge of concern and panic coming off of his best friend. But he seemed to push it off to the side to answer his question. Kuroo's eyes blew wide at his response.
"I got reservations a week ago."
Now something was definitely going on. His crush never planned anything. His already uneasy stomach began to churn as he wondered what was going on.
"Why?"
"I-I just thought we should have a nice night ou—UOHHHHHHH THE FOODS HERE!"
"Bro what did you even order?"
"Dude just try it. Just a bite."
"Bro. I'd do anything for you."
Bokuto couldn’t help his blush at not only the comment, but the way Kuroo had snuck in to steal his bite of food. He had figured that it was just his nervousness that was forcing his thoughts to become so lewd at whatever the Omega did tonight. It seemed all of his instincts were pitching in the fight to take over his regular emotions and actions. He would growl at anyone that came close to Kuroo; even in walking, he would move closer or switch to the side that had more people on it in order to protect him. He forced down his blush to make a witty comment, putting the fact that he's been so overbearing (it was a little much, even for him) as it being an off day. All the while, the retired Nekoma captain was hoping he was doing a good job holding down the scent of his discomfort and anxiety, the nauseous churning in his stomach slowly growing worse. The two continuing their joking chats throughout the remainder of their meal.
--------------

--------------
It was becoming extremely hard to contain his scent.
Kuroo knows now that something is wrong. His stomach is out of control, the lower parts of it feeling empty yet very violently beginning to reject the food recently ate, his skin itched like he wanted all his clothes off to stop bothering him, he couldn’t think strait worth a damn and he burned, so so bad. He felt like every piece of him was on fire and he got the feeling that he knew some way to ease all this, but he couldn’t figure it out. He hadnt seen Bokuto in almost a little over a week and he didn’t want to leave him now, not because he was getting sick or something. He hadn't gotten sick all throughout their last year of high school or the short time that it's been since they’ve graduated, and its obvious this night is somehow important to the man he wants to someday spend his life with. Of course there was also the fact that he was incredibly embarrassed how clingy he's been since the days started.
At least they were in a park now, the cool breeze and fresh air was only slightly calming his problematic storm, but he would take what little relief he could get. Plus it was amusing to watch how Bokuto was acting when they would walk by a dark or slippery part of the path. But it also made his cool interior light aflame when he did things like that or went on guard against any person in the vicinity.
However, it seemed that for once, the oblivious Bokuto was catching on to his partner-in-crime's problems.
"Dude are you okay? You've been acting really weird lately." Bokuto had to resist the urge to cradle the Omega, his distressed pheromones slowly seeping through.
"I don’t know Bro. I havent been feeling well and my head isn't in the right places. But the walk is helping, its beautiful out here. And don’t worry, dinner was good too. Even though I didn’t eat alo--"
Kuroo couldn’t finish his sentence; he had stumbled and began dry-heaving, the fat drips of saliva leaking from his mouth were telling him that his stomach was ready to dispel the food. Bokuto yelped and rushed to cover the curled ravenette, instinctively pushing his pheromones out to help relax Kuroo. The Omegas eyes closed as the only the he could focus on was the calming smell and the circles Bokuto was rubbing on his back as he violent disposed of the half digested food.
"That’s it. You need rest."

The train ride was a blast.
Bokuto had decided that Kuroo should sleep at his place till he gets better, his apartment was closer anyway. Plus the retired nekoma captain had not entirely moved into his new place, as they had been wondering if Kuroo should just move into the spikey haired Alpha's place. Less traveling to hang out, more parties, more trouble, shared rent. Bokuto liked the sound of that, and so did Tetsuroo, it just hasn’t become an official thing on their to-do lists yet.
Bokuto wanted to be able to watch over him tonight, make sure he was safe and happy. But currently, neither of them were happy.
Nor were the others in the train car.
Panting heavily, face flushed with vcat eyes lidded, Kuroo couldn’t create a single straight through; his body only telling him to smoosh into the side of the alpha looming right next to him. Speaking of Bokuto, he could not exactly think straight either, his mind only telling him that EVERYONE HERE WAS AN ENEMY OF KUROO. He would have attack half of these people by now-especially the alphas who seemed to be inching towards them- if he did not want to leave the Omega's side. His crush needed him right now, he had to hold back on these people to let his undivided attention go to the person leaning on him right now. However, while keeping a clear enough head was hard enough with this crazy smell Kuroo was emitting, he lost all conscience when an old foe stepped into the train.
Ushijima Wakatoshi.
Immediately everyone subtly recoiled at how tense the white/black haired Alpha got, the only sound that wasn’t the train moving beginning to move across the tracks was Kuroo letting out a whimper at the territorial scent Bokuto was protruding, his body seizing in response to the Alpha's actions. The sound caused Ushijima to shift his eyes over, his facial expression not changing. In fact, ever since he stepped on the train, he had stood still, his body only started moving after he spotted the two of them.
Unfortunately he was moving towards them.
The retired Fukurodani captain pulled Kuroo closer to his chest, a low rumble shot through the stiff air as warning to not get too close. However, Ushijima did not seemed phased at all, proceeding to calmly walk over to the forms, stopping a few feet away when evaluating Kuroo. The male seemed to be barely conscious, only managing to flitter his eyes every few seconds with an expel of heated breath, his face flushed and lost of all of his usual witty composure. Wakatoshi's eyes shifted back up to the opposing Alpha, sparks flying between them.
"Give him to me."
Bokuto's owlish eyes turned sharp, ready to fight. This silent havoc the two alphas were causing in displays of dominance and territoriality made something clicked inside of Kuroo's. And with the realization came the overwhelming burst of the damn inside him, his body pushed to be heard and the Omega blacked out. Every alpha in the vicinity became aware that his smell was not one of being sick, it was just his anxiety overpowering the actual smell flowing off him.
Kuroo was in heat.
As Bokuto's eyes shifted to an animalistic glaze, the tense atmosphere shifted completely for the worse aboard the trains cart. It was no longer large territorial display.
It was a battleground.
----------------
---------------------
----------------
The victorious screaming is what caused Tetsuroo to stir, but he only felt a pair of arms wrap around his legs, rolling him onto a warm back. Minutes felt like seconds as he continued to bounce back and forth in consciousness.
"Bro? Wake up, please. PLEASE I NEED YOU. I didn’t get to tell you yet."
Kuroos eyes snapped open as best they could.
"Ohoho? Tell me what?"
Bokuto found it both endearing and distressing that his friend found the strength to make a witty comment, but not able to hold back the course breathing the need in his voice caused.
"Oh god, you're alright! I mean, I knew you'd be alright... Kuroo?"
A tired hum was heard in response.
"Do you want to be my mate? I-I mean, im pretty amazing so I think I'd be a pretty amazing mate. Of course the date tonight wasn’t that amazing. OH GOD KUROO IM A FAILURE JESUS MAN IM SO SORR--"
"Alpha?"
A flustered choke of shock left bokuto's mouth."Y-Yes?"
"Where did you get those bruises? Why are you so bloody?" Well shit, he didn’t want the Omega to see those.
"I had a skirmish on the train after you blacked out, but I won! Of course I won, I am pretty amazing after all. So, does this mean... you want me? Cause you know you called me Alpha and a--"
"I've wanted you for a long time Alpha, just didn’t know if you wanted me."
Those were the only words Kuroo could manage. The Alphas words weren't intended to do anything to the boy on his back, and certainly were not meant to have the effect they did. However, as soon as the ravenette processed what Bokuto had said, his body began to seize up in the now apparent need to be dominated, claimed, touched, filled. Bokuto tensed as well, not being able to respond to the male's statement as his body began to react to the booming smell of the Omega's heat back at full throttle. While Kuroo was unconscious, his hot scent was growing very faint, leaving the Alpha to walk with only a slightly cloudy mind and 'half mast boner'. Luckily, the hyper ex-captain had only decided to wake the other when they were outside his house.
Now there was a very desperate need from the party to get in the house.
Bokuto fumbled with his keys as Kuroo began to suck on his neck, its was harder to concentrate on which way to put in when he wanted to put something in Kuroo as well. The Alphas light growling could be heard through each bated breath that hitched in his throat, between the drug like aroma wafting around him and Kuroo's weak mistrations and whispers on the shell of his ear of things like 'Alpha' and 'fill me' and 'need your pups', it was a miracle that bokuto even got the door open at all. They stumbled in, short breaths ready to lock mouths, but as the Alpha turned the lights on, he was surprised to see a nest made for a breeding Omega. They were in his apartment right? He looked back at the door, noticing a note left in familiar handwriting. Bokuto picked it up. There curious response was identical, even through the atmosphere they had created.
"Ohoho?"
The note was discarded, grateful grins on their faces that Akaashi had remembered that Kuroo's heat was coming up, he and Kenma had made a nest for them in the dire situation they knew would occur that day.
It was best they made use of it.
First one posted. Thank you for the request, hope you enjoyed!
Oikawa has at least 5 bottles of scented hand cream in his school bag. His favorite thing to do after practice is lather up his hands with a bunch of excess cream and slap the back of Iwaizumi’s neck.
Bokuto is horrible at English but has the weird ability of remembering odd English slang. No one knows what he means when he announces ‘it’s lit’ right before dive bombing a sleeping Kuroo at training camps but they’ve all been conditioned to fear it.
Akaashi is incredibly strong despite how slender he looks. He can pick up Bokuto without breaking a sweat, something Bokuto himself is stunned by.
Kuroo and Bokuto once tried to imitate stunts from Jackass. The video they made was only 12 minutes long because Akaashi caught Kuroo smothering Bokuto in honey with a bee hive next to them and lost his shit. One hospital trip later, the two weren’t allowed out of his sight for weeks.
Kyoutani has seven dogs. He likes them more than people, so whenever he’s invited out for an aoba johsai team outing, the entire team has to wait for him while he pets every dog he encounters on the sidewalk.
Noya bought Asahi a t shirt that says ‘daddy’ across the chest in English. No one has the heart to tell him what it means.
Oikawa is half Korean on his mother’s side. He can speak Korean fluently since it was his first language and prefers to speak it at home rather than out in public.
Hinata is half Irish and half Japanese. He was actually teased a lot as a kid because of his fiery hair but his equally fiery personality didn’t let him be a victim for long.
Yamaguchi has an angelic singing voice. The only one who has ever heard him sing is Tsukishima, who can’t sing for shit.
Dogboy iwachan getting frustrated bc he can't get oikawa pregnant, so oikawa bring home a kittygirl for him instead? sorry for my english:P
// your english is perfectly fine! I did this in a headcanon-ish form, so i hope thats okay -mod kat //
Oikawa starts noticing one day that Iwa has definitely gotten more purposeful during his ruts, and it’s led to a lot of new knotting positions for him trying to knock tooru up.
When he realizes what’s going on he does his best to explain to his dogboy that he can’t have children because he doesn’t posses a uterus.
Iwa gets super mopey after this so oikawa decides it’s time to get Iwa a playmate that can give him what he’s been wanting.
They set a day to go to the pet store and he lets Iwa get to know the catgirls he’s approved of and then lets him choose which one should come live with them
The day they bring her home, she’s almost tackled full force to the ground once they get inside, iwa saying that he’s going to scent mark her right then and there.
IM IN DESPERATE NEED OF BOKUROO WITH A PREGNANT KUROO. SO IVE COME TO SPEAK WITH YOU, GOD OF HCS
i dont know about god ly;noajholyshit but i have some things to share
bokuto doesn’t ignore his alpha instincts. the first heat they spend together, it’s really obvious that kuroo misjudged completely to what degree bokuto was intune with his nature.
bokuto bites to claim and fucks with all intentions of breeding his mate. kuroo gets turned on by bokuto’s strong alpha streak, surprisingly. sure, they planned on spending his heat together but they hadn’t discussed pups. yet bokuto is knotting him full and grunting sinful things in his ear like, “gonna breed you, kuroo. few more days taking my knot like this and that belly of yours will be holding my pups. fuck, you’ll look so pretty with a big litter in you.”
kuroo not knowing how bad he wants bokuto to put pups in him until it doesn’t happen!!! kuroo is honestly so shocked that his emotions have become so strong, but after five heats, his pregnancy is a reality and he and his mate both shed happy tears and kiss until their lips go numb.
how slowly kuroo begins to show bothers him. he saw suga carry his first litter. after just three months, the omega was ballooning. he swelled so quickly it was almost comical, if it didn’t make kuroo so jealous. kuroo has the tiniest bump just as far along, but his alpha still pays it ample attention and gushes just the same.
bokuto would be ultimate Proud Alpha lol reminding everyone of the due date when he sees them and smiling like crazy. he changes his mind daily on his favorite baby name choices too. ♡
