Lenny loved LA. More specifically, he loved that he and Ludivine were finally living together. He loved the custom house she had helped design and build when he was in Vietnam, a colorful three-bedroom home that was worth more than any other place he had lived in. They were in a nice neighborhood with money, cars, and fuckin’ fame. So they argued more than the average couple, and Lenny had gotten very good at hiding his drug habit. It was better than most things he had experienced.
The phone rang while Ludivine was making dinner and Lenny was watching TV. Wondering who was calling them after seven, Lenny wandered over and picked up the phone, where the operator immediately informed him that he was receiving an international call from Vienna. Vienna? That Iryna was calling, but why the hell was she calling? Lenny knew for a fact she couldn't afford a long-distance call.
“Iryna, why the fuck are you callin’ me from Vienna? Ain’t it like four in the mornin’ over there?”
“Miranda broke up with me,” she sobbed loudly.
Lenny paused. “...She did what?”
The moment Lenny got off the phone with his poor sister, he marched right over to Ludivine in the kitchen, pissed off. “Did you fuckin’ know Miranda was gonna dump my sister?”
Ludivine was immediately annoyed by his tone. “They broke up?”
“Apparently, Miranda’s been plannin’ to do it for a while.”
“Well… it doesn’t exactly surprise me. I thought it obvious Miranda had some guilt over their age difference. I don’t like that she hurt Iryna, but they have such different lives, don’t tell me you’re shocked.”
“Is your family okay with that? Your aunt and uncle raised her. It’s coward behavior. She dumped my fuckin’ sister ‘cause she was too scared for a real relationship. Reminds you of anythin’?”
Ludivine scowled. “Oh fuck off you bloody arsehole, don’t take your anger out on me!”
Lenny scoffed. “I will then. I’m gonna see my other sister and whether or not anyone needs to fly out to Vienna.”
“Enjoy the six-hour drive, Vsevolod,” Ludivine muttered under her breath as he walked away from her.
