The soil testing equipment on Curiosity makes a buzzing noise and the pitch of the noise changes depending on what part of an experiment Curiosity is performing, this is the way Curiosity sings to itself.
So some of the finest minds currently alive decided to take incredibly expensive important scientific equipment and mess with it until they worked out how to move in just the right way to sing Happy Birthday, then someone made a cake on Curiosity’s birthday and took it into Mission control so that a room full of brilliant scientists and engineers could throw a birthday party for a non-autonomous robot 225 million kilometres away and listen to it sing the first ever song sung on Mars*, which was Happy Birthday.
This isn’t a sad story, this a happy story about the ridiculousness of humans and the way we love things. We built a little robot and called it Curiosity and flung it into the star to go and explore places we can’t get to because it’s name is in our nature and then just because we could, we taught it how to sing.
That’s not sad, that’s awesome.
*this is different from the first song ever played on mars (Reach For The Stars by Will.I.Am) which happened the year before, singing is different from playing

On the 28th of April, 2011, Ed Balls got a Twitter account. He decided (as most people under the spotlight do) to attempted to look up his own name. However, all he did was tweet “Ed Balls”. This, for some reason, got retweeted by THOUSANDS of people. On a global scale. And because he didn’t know you could delete a tweet it stayed. Every year since then,the 28th of April is Ed Balls day.

A fucked up part of being a minority is being concerned about how horrible actions of some that I have nor I will ever meet will affect me.
When a cis person sees another cis person in the news because they have sexually abused someone or they made the news after a public shooting, they are fine personally. Like obviously is a horrible action. Like obviously they won't like it. But outside their reaction to the news, the event wont affect them in any manner unless they are personally involved.
Meanwhile, I dread reading about anyone who might be trans doing anything terrible not only because it obviously sucks when those things happen, but because I know it will be used as an argument against my condition and existence.
I dread reading about any trans woman commiting any kind of sex crime not only because I hate sex crime but because I know some will take that event as an admission of guilt of an entire minority. As a declaration of how "Everytime you ostraziced us and even led some to suicide with your hateful words and actions, you were actually justified".
It's an exhausting experience.
