I was just thinking about 2010's nostalgia and all that, and how there is a lot of talk about how that era was so much more fun and just better in general. And honestly, someday we might say the same thing about the 2020's. Because there was just as much suffering in the world back then, and I feel like a lot of the people we romanticize from that era were usually wealthy suburban kids who didn't have much to worry about. There were hardships back then too. And someday gen alpha might look back at how much fun being a gen z was, and most of the experiences they will be citing will be the experiences of richer and more luckier gen z who were able to participate in every trend or fun thing without worries.

In all reality, we have to take life by the reins and make our lives fun. Romanticize the now and find ways to make life enjoyable. I don't think that running off of nostalgia is a good way to live. If you miss an era where they was less technology and apps then delete apps and find ways to minimize your technology usage, if you miss the times when you were able to be more social then try to go out more with your friends whenever you can and replace your doomscrolling hours with social time. Learn new hobbies, listen to music from whatever era, decorate your room and space with things you love, make time for joy. etc.

Once again getting irrationally angry at people saying The Hunger Games is set around 2100! No it’s not!!

In the FIRST CHAPTER OF THE HUNGER GAMES Katniss gives us the history of Panem!

"He tells of the history of Panem, the country that rose up out of the ashes of a place that was once called North America. He lists the disasters, the droughts, the storms, the fires, the encroaching seas that swallowed up so much of the land, the brutal war for what little sustenance remained. The result was Panem, a shining Capitol ringed by thirteen districts, which brought peace and prosperity to its citizens. Then came the Dark Days, the uprising of the districts against the Capitol. Twelve were defeated, the thirteenth obliterated. The Treaty of Treason gave us new laws to guarantee peace, and as our yearly reminder that the Dark Days must never be repeated, it gave us the Hunger Games." - The Hunger Games, Chapter 1

The Hunger Games is set hundreds of years in the future! After Climate Change has destroyed much of the planet and civilization. Out of that destruction and war rose Panem, which assumedly existed for a time BEFORE the Dark Days. There was another several years long war which ended in District 13 getting obliterated (or so everyone thinks) and as punishment for their uprising THEN the Hunger Games is established. Then 73 years of Hunger Games before Chapter 1 of the first book, WHICH IS NOT HAPPENING IN 2100.

Yes I am aware it is obnoxious to care this much about this small detail! But I can't help it! It's one of my biggest pet peeves and takes I see people say about the series! No President Snow is not Gen Alpha! No he was not born in the late 2010s or early 2020s. This entire series is set very far in the distant future!

I think it is worth being upset about this detail! It is best to be accurate about timings in a story unless you are writing or imagining a modern AU. It is just simply correct lore-wise that this story is more likely set around 2300-2400 imo.

the AI-ification of the internet as made looking shit up almost impossible. The first 10 results that pop up are AI-generated slop articles that repeat themselves like 5 times and make too many unnecessary bullet point lists. I now literally have to save questions I have so I can look them up on my laptop and sort through results better. The internet is such a frustrating place as of late
