Ethan stayed where he was, a little fidgety. He didnāt like the thought of her going out there. Not a bit. Although, he also knew he really had no say in what Rebecca did or didnāt dueā he had to trust her to make the right choices for herself.Ā āI knowā I just⦠I can go too. Itāll give me a chance to check out the area, you know? Ā For a better grasp when weāre organizing scavenging trips and sending the recruits outā¦ā
She knew that he wouldnāt be a big fan of her going out there, but it was things for the bike she was working on. She was one of the few people there that worked and had experience with the bikes so she felt obligated to go get it.Ā āOkay, but you know that one day Iām going to go out there on my own right?ā
avramisms:
The grief, Ethan could cope with. He knew grief wellā it was almost a part of the job description for his old job. By now, he could accept that his parents werenāt coming back. Heād come to terms with that. It hurt, it left him awake in the early hours of the morning, and heād told Amelia about it late one night, on the brink of tears. But, heād come to terms with it. What he didnāt accept was that he couldnāt help his sister in some way. His constant visits usually ended with him shuffling off with a, āwell, if you donāt need me I can goā. āYou could just ask one of the runners? Iām sure that theyād be up to look for you,ā he suggested instead.Ā
She moved away from the bike moving to sit down on the stool. She didnāt know many people in the town. The person that she was closest to was her brother. So instead of talking about how she felt she focused on what she could do to help the group. They hadnāt really spoken seriously since that night. She nodded.Ā āThey might get it mixed up with another thing, and itās for the bike Iām working on I should be the one to have to find it. We all have to chip in around here.ā

@rebeccaavram
Heād kept himself from checking up on her throughout most of the day, which was better than heād been doing before. The first few weeks, heād stop by several times in the morning alone. By now, Ethan could restrict himself to only one visit in the afternoonā because, honestly, he knew that his sister didnāt like his hovering. āHowāre things going over here?āĀ
Rebecca had shut down emotionally after crying that night with her brother. She needed to be able to focus on what she needed to do. She had spent the past days focusing on fixing anything that needed fixing. Her brotherās constant hovering at first didnāt bother her, but after a few days it began to get on her nerves. She had been working on a bike when she heard her brother.Ā āTheyāre okay, working on a bike. Itās missing a part. I might go on a run next time people go out.ā
ā IāM ALLOWED TO WORRY ABOUT YOU ā (from brother dearest)
@avramisms
She crossed her arms.Ā āWe could die any second. If youāre busy worrying about you you might get hurt so no youāre not allowed to worry about me.ā
avramisms:
āThey should,ā he agreed faintly. If anyone deserved a happy life, it was their parents. They were so, so giving. So caring and so there. They hadnāt bat an eye when Ethan went to them about the money, and yes there was a period of time where he thought heād ruined things. Maybe even beyond redemption. But, they proved him wrong and gave even more. His mother gave him an open ear when they talked, and his father the forgiveness Ethan hadnāt earned at that point. His whole reason for going to Scottsdale was for himself. But, they understood. They didnāt resent him for it when they should have. They just understood and that was the gut-punch he wasnāt expecting.Ā
Ethan looked for the good in people. He has an intense faith that no matter what, people could overcome any obstacle. People made their own fates and futures. They were capable of so much that it was unfathomable. And that faith came, largely, from their parents. Two people who tried to give every opportunity to their children and sacrificed a life a life they knew for a land of chance. For their kids. For a future.Ā
Growing up with that unrelenting trust and support, well⦠Ethan couldnāt have much faith in much else. A trust he would later betray and a support he would try to live without, sure, but that was Ethanās foundation. It left him with a very sure belief system:Ā So long as there was man, there was good. So long as there was a tomorrow, there was a chance.Ā And in the end, people would make the right choice. Always.Ā
āIt still isnāt your fault,ā he said again, voice thing as he looked down at her. She was such a powerful person and to see her like this was⦠Earth-shattering.Ā
Cautiously, Ethan stepped forward and lowered himself to the ground. He turned and scooted back until his back was against the wall next to his sister. He hated this. He hated not being able to say anything or find a bright side to this. The only silver-lining of this entire situation was that they were together. That he knew where she was and that she was physically alright.Ā
He slotted his arm over her shoulders. Truth be told, he couldnāt discern whether or not this was more for her or him. Still, his fingers curled into the fabric of her shirt in a sure grip. One that would not be easily shaken off. His own eyes still burned furiously and he used his other hand to shield them from the lights above them. In this spacious hall, Ethan felt small. So incredibly small and scared.Ā
He was an adult. A grown man, but now, he didnāt feel like anything more than a scared little boy. Like heād felt four months ago in the stuffy cab of his car, driving down a road he didnāt know.Ā
In the hall with his sister, he cried. He cried not only because of their loss but because their parents werenāt going to get a proper goodbye. Their parents werenāt going to have a funeral. They wouldnāt get the chance to mourn as a family, to share in the grief with people who knew them. Their parentās friends may not know. Their mother wouldnāt get a eulogy. Their father wouldnāt have a headstone. There would be nothing to visit.Ā āWeāll figure something out. Weāre⦠Weāre both here, and⦠thatās what they would have wanted. Right?āĀ
Rebecca wished that their parents were here. They were the most amazing people that she had ever met. Whenever she went to them with a problem they were always there. They always listened to her. Even when she didnāt want to talk about what was on her mind they would always offer to listen to her whenever she wanted to talk to them. She now wished that she had taken them up on their offer more. She wished that she had spent more time with them. She wished that she had been more open to them about her worries, and what she was feeling. When she got older they would always be there for her even if she just wanted to come over for a cup of tea. They were the two most important people in her life.
Their parents had moved across the country to make sure to give both of them a good chance for a future. They let them make their own paths, and tried to make sure that they got what they wanted if they tried. She had always admired her parents for having the courage to move across the world. She wished she had even a fraction of their strength. They never looked powerless. In everything that they did the couple did with grace and dignity. They were her role models for who she should become.
Growing up she always tried to live up to their expectations. She always pushed herself to be the best in everything that she did. She became a perfectionist, and everything that she did it always had to be up to her standard. When it came to herself she was always hard on herself, and always pushed herself to be better. Unlike her brother she didnāt believe that people would always make the right choices in the end. She believed that people could be cruel and take advantage of others if given the chance. While he was trusting and generally believed in people she was never expected for something to turn out good. She was pessimistic and often saw the worst in people while her brother would only see the good. The two siblings couldnāt be more different. The two were like fire and water.
She shook her head at his words. āIt is.ā She said her words muffled and barely audible.
Rebecca didnāt move as he moved over to her. Her head was rested on her knees as tears made their way out of her eyes. In some ways this was one of the few moments in the last few years that the two had let their guard down in front of each other or at least since she had let down her guard. She prided herself on being put together and rarely did she let anybody see any different. She could count on her hands all the times that she had cried in front of her brother.
She froze slightly when she felt his arm wrap around her but after a moment she relaxed. She tried to keep from tears continuing to fall, but she was unable to. So instead she moved resting her head on her brotherās shoulder as tears fell. The brunette must have looked tiny compared to her brother. At only 5ā2ā the girl was very short compared to her brother, and now curled up into a ball she seemed to have shrunk even more
She had always been more mature for her age then most growing up, but now she felt like a lost child. She didnāt know what to do or what was going to happen next.
She nodded against his shoulder. āRight, weāll figure it out.ā She said her voice soft. She wished that the world would go back to normal and that everything would be okay. She wanted her mom and dad back. She wanted to be able to talk to them. She wanted to have another holiday with them. She wanted to be able to tell them about everything that was going to happen in her life. She wished that she could tell them goodbye. āItās not like it can get any worse than this. The world has ended."

Rebecca had gone on a run looking for supplies when she heard a shout. She ran over to where she heard the voice. Seeing walkers surrounding a person she shot them all, but not before it was too late. It was too late though the person had already been bit. She kneeled beside them.Ā āNo, come on stay awake.ā She pleaded shaking their frame. She knew that they were gone, and they were going to turn. She pulled out her knife her hands trembling as she held it over their head. With shaking hands she turned their head but she was unable to stab them.Ā āI canāt.ā She said softly ignoring the sound of footsteps.

Holding his faithful pistol up as he seeās someone coming close, Jack was on guard for anything the stranger had in mind.Ā āYou have ten seconds to tell me what you want or iāll be adding another hole to that face of yours.ā With years of military training, Jack was an expert with a pistol.
Rebecca held up her hands.Ā āWoah, Iām looking for supplies.ā The brunette said looking across at the gun.Ā
