His hug lasted all of ten seconds before he broke away, touching his busted lip where it had started to hurt again. “We should talk more after school, I’m kind of in trouble with my parents so I have to walk home.”
“You’ve always had that,” she promised with a head nod, the simplest thing in the world. In Rebecca’s mind, two things were clear: Eric is weak, and Eric is having one of the worst weeks in his life, which could serve as a revelation if he stopped being weak. “Would you like me to walk you home?” she inquired, almost amused.
