So I hit the pause on daily posting, and I must say it’s been good to change up what I’m doing. Still working out ideas and I thought it would be good to share one with y’all. Here is a sample of a card for Valentines Day, with more in the works. The idea is to take a new spin on some of the lines from romantic comedies and make them more “real life”. 730 days ago I committed to create a new piece of artwork every single day. So much has come out of that decision to grow a skill which for the longest time I didn’t think existed. This morning I am drinking coffee from a mug that has the artwork I posted on day 365. I am wearing a shirt that has artwork I will be sending to women serving in Congress (cuz women’s voices matter). I did not know what I was starting 730 days ago. Truth be told, I don’t even know where this will lead. But I want to encourage every person who reads this: if there is a skill you want to grow, if there is an issue that you are passionate about, make space for it in your life. You will never regret investing time in yourself to pursue what brings you joy. SPOILER ALERT: Whatever that is WILL spill over into other areas of your life and others will benefit from it too! With 5 days left to purchase a shirt that will be sent to female leaders in Congress, it’s a great way to engage with any youngsters in your world (Yup, I officially sound old). There has been a spike in youth involvement in politics. I recently saw a statistic that five times as many young voters turned out for early voting in 2018 as in 2014. However, even before they are old enough to vote, it’s important to talk with kids about our political system. It’s not always easy to engage teens in conversation, but it is amazing how something as simple as artwork on a t-shirt can get the ball rolling. These 2 beauties are my girls and I want them to know that their voice matters and that they can make a difference on issues that are important to them. Of course, none of it is easy, but I think that is true of most things that are really important. (And as much as I love seeing their smiling faces, the second picture is more realistic to every day life with teenagers) Tag a friend who supports having more women in politics. Today’s post serves a few purposes: 1. Further opportunity to explore how to work with type and photography. 2. It’s based on an audio recording that I did where I kept getting tripped up on the word effortlessly. The irony was not lost on me, which made it all the more entertaining. 3. On a deeper level it got me thinking about how often we have expectation of how something should go, but the reality can be so much more _________(fill-in-the-blank) challenging, strenuous, painful, etc. As a result we can get down on ourselves because of it. However, I’m starting to wonder if the best thing to do in those moments is like what I did with that audio recording. Recognize that the reality is different than the expectation (possibly give a giggle) and just keep at it until you’ve made it through.

My sister and I faithfully watched Laverne & Shirley growing up. In my mind, being a tomboy I was Laverne and Wendy was the wiser, voice of reason, Shirley. So we have some lovely friends coming over and aside from the normal excitement in anticipation of an evening with delightful company, enjoying a good meal and playing games, I noticed a spike of excitement around the excuse to pick up a bunch of different cheeses to serve. We are talking giddy energy. This past weekend my whole family pulled off the unbelievable; surprising my mom for her 80th birthday. 🎂 The surprise included my brothers and their spouses flying in from out-of-state, a book containing beautiful notes/letters/well wishes to my mom from various friends throughout her life, my sister crafting a mini-freestanding tree with individual charms that each grandchild chose representing a memory they have with grandma.
