Support Walmart workers! How to culturejam and undermine Walmart.

Get ready for Black Friday!!

Why Walmart? Are they singularly worse than the other big box stores? Target has a more fashionable image, but I don't think their labor practices are any better than Walmart's.

There are several ways to address this. Most importantly, Rebrand Walmart was conceived as a way to support the courageous Walmart workers who are organizing against illegal retaliation, poverty wages and unfair schedule manipulation.

Additionally, as the largest employer in the U.S. and the world, Walmart sets industry standards that other companies follow. Improving conditions for Walmart workers and those in Walmart's supply chain would have a dramatic impact across the globe.

That said, we fully support the creation of a Rebrand Target tumblr!

The majority of Walmart warehouse workers are hired through temp agencies, paid low wages, receive no benefits, and have no job security. They routinely lift heavy boxes – up to 200-pounds – from shipping containers on a piece rate system or for minimum wage for hours and days on end – in some cases 362 days a year. Workers encounter inhumane work speeds, moving up to 450 boxes per hour by hand, pollutants, high temperatures, little ventilation and intense retaliation if they complain about the conditions.
