Ginoza groaned. That was just their luck. “Did you leave it in your quarters? My phone battery is running out, I can’t use it. If you’re not sure where it is, let’s go directly to the equipment room, there are torches there.”

Kagari shrugged. “I don’t remember where I left it. Going to the equipment room is probably the best idea. How are we supposed to find our way there though without any light?”

“It’s possible, but the emergency system should have kicked in by now. We should go see what’s going on. Do you have a torch?”

Ginoza fumbled in his pockets, searching for his phone. The device did have a torch, but it was running on low batteries.

“I think I have one.” Kagari replied as he began fumbling around in the dark.

Despite the lack of visibility, he searched around for it. Even checking his pockets.

“Oh crap, I can’t find it. I must’ve forgotten it.”

“Alright, once you are done with your report, there is something I need you to check ou-” Ginoza’s words were suddenly cut short when all the lights in their office went down, followed by their computer screens. “What the- a power outage?”

Ginoza frowned. Of course, blackouts were a possibility even in a well-regualted world like Sibyl’s, but the CID headquarters had their own autonomous system that was supposed to kick in in such emergencies, for obvious security reasons. He was expecting at least the emergency lights to start working, but none of that happened. Something was wrong.

Ginoza stood up, using his smartwatch to give the room some form of illumination -as weak as it was- and searched for Kagari, the only other member of Division One on duty that night.

“Shouldn’t the lights be on at this point already?”

So much for getting work done. There wasn’t much Kagari could do with the power out. Not to mention he couldn’t see anything. With nothing else to do, he turned in his desk chair to face what little he could see of the inspector.

“Beats me. Maybe something got busted?”
