“John, right?” she asks with a slow smirk, one hand sitting on her hip.
“You’re Ellie’s older cousin.” It’s not a question, she knows exactly who he is. Most people did. He was a strong hunter already, though they were barely out of school. He’d be prolific if he kept it up. She turns away from him to pull a book from one of the two stacks they’re trapped between. There was a major exam coming up in two days revolving around the beasts spawning from witch-kind. And there was only one copy of this book in the library. “Looking for this?”
Books were always in a nonsensical order in the academy's library. The head librarian either didn't care or loved messing with the new recruits, either way John had been in here for at least ten minutes looking for the book he needed. When he hears her silky, sweet voice all of the hairs on the back of his neck stand and he's already starting to sweat. John looks over toward her and mutters yes to her first statement while wiping his clammy hands on his slacks. If she were anyone else, he wouldn’t be this nervous.
The sight of the book relieves him just a bit, "Oh. Yes, that's the one." He offers he a lopsided smile, "If you're using it now, may I borrow it from you later?"
