Anyone else have this book as a kid? I remember proudly dropping some coin on this at the school book fair when I was in first grade, circa 1988. Wish I still had it.

As some may or may not know already, my wife, Loreal, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer just after Christmas last year.  Since the initial diagnosis, we have been pursuing treatment options, and on Friday, February 13th (Friday the 13th, yikes!) she will be heading to the hospital in Loma Linda, CA for a complete thyroidectomy and possible removal of other parts of her lymphatic system.  If you have to get cancer in your lifetime, thyroid cancer is a good one to have, as it has a 95% total cure rate.  The surgery will of course remove most if not all of the cancer from her body, but there will be follow up treatment with iodine radiation to annihilate the rest of it.  As Loreal has been at her current job for a very short time, she does not as yet qualify for the medical leave benefits she might otherwise have had.  To that end, her company—Premiere Health Services—has started a fundraiser to help us out during her recovery, and has generously offered to match all donations, dollar for dollar, up to $5,000.  If you would like to check it out and find out more about it, the fundraiser site can be found here:

Reclaimed this little piece of awesome yesterday. I had this same wallet back in 1985 or so. I was at a friend's house and their grandmother had given them a box of E.T. Collectibles. I saw this, freaked out, and they let me keep it.

Anyone recall these? Burger King sold these around Christmas, 1988. They were a tie in to the popular toy line, Purr-Tenders. This is a cat pretending to be a rabbit that also doubles as a Christmas stocking.

So, I live within a few minutes walk of the old Kea Mill in Murrieta, CA. It's a derelict grain elevator built around 1915, and was rated the 7th most haunted place in the US by ABC at some point. I wouldn't trust a network to know much of anything about anything, and outside of an eerie feeling and a greater feeling of curiosity, I've never seen any of the reported "haunted" stuff that goes on over there. Nonetheless, there are those who claim to have seen a teenage girl in a blue dress simpering in the middle window on the south side of the tower. People have also reported a strong smell of jasmine, hearing a train whistle, and an overwhelming sense of sadness when near the place. Again, I can attest to none of the above, but I through this little splatter sketch together to give any of what this place is like in broad daylight.
