Been seeing a number of things recently in fandom on tumblr that have bothered me, so I wanted to shout a couple quick thoughts as a fandom creator who stumbled into a large readerbase:
Please think about what fandom creators can see. If you post something online publicly, there is a likelihood they can and will see it! Fandom creators are not the same as professional creators. We occupy the same tight-knit community online, nerding out the exact same way as our peers! I really don't care what you have to say about my fics, and certainly don't expect everyone out there who reads them to enjoy them, but don't TELL me ajdfkls - do it in private please!
Please think about the intent behind what you're saying publicly for fandom creators to see. Speaking personally, I love seeing people theorize and talk about my own works (shoutout to a lovely shark friend of mine <3)! That being said, I'm also fiercely protective of my versions of these characters, and get genuinely disheartened if someone reads and declares malintent into characters that I love. Those takes have been thankfully rather self-contained (and none public beyond ao3 comments sections), but I can't express how sad and discouraged I'd be if they spread and convinced others that that was the story I was telling, let alone if they'd spread while I was actively writing the fic.
It stings. We see these comments and takes, and some I still think about months later, wondering if there's any other way I could've made my narrative and my love for the characters within it clearer.
Fandom creators and fandom enjoyers: all of us are here to have fun together and are doing this for free - all we ask is that you please be respectful of that. <3

Venezuela, my country, suffered two major earthquakes (doublet earthquakes, as it's known) separated by a mere 39 seconds each on June 24th. They were of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5, respectively, and have left unimaginable destruction in their wake.
My family, friends, and I have been incredibly fortunate to escape unharmed, but thousands, if not millions, of people are being affected by this tragedy in various parts of the country, with La Guaira and Caracas being among the worst-affected areas. The country's main airport had to be closed due to the extensive damage it sustained.
Around 800 buildings have collapsed... People have lost everything they had: their homes, their families. The government didn't "take action" until two days after the tragedy; ordinary citizens were the ones carrying out rescue efforts with their bare hands and fingernails while the national authorities did nothing.
There are more than 50,000 people missing to date, most of them are still trapped under the rubble, and the only ones trying to do anything about it are the international rescuers (those who have been able to reach the country, because this corrupt regime is hindering them) and the citizens searching for their family and friends buried under tons of concrete.
Hospitals that have been suffering from resource shortages for almost three decades were filled with supplies within days of the tragedy, thanks to the efforts of citizens who have been donating everything they can across the country. Some of these collection centers have been targeted for closure by the regime under the pretext that it's illegal...
(And no, it's not. By doing that, they're preventing aid from reaching the people who need it most.)
Venezuela lacks the necessary resources to deal with a tragedy of this magnitude: there are no protocols, not enough tools, no heavy machinery, and no effort on the part of the national authorities. We need international aid; we need to help each other because the government won't.
Please, if you can, donate. If you can't, at least please share this and any other posts about this situation with your friends, family, and on social media so that it reaches more people. We need all the help we can get.

The moment I read a certain scene from 'paint my frozen heart with fire' chapter 6, this image came into my head.
God, what a good fic it is and each chapter, I find more to love from it.

in chapter 4, I started thinking that there was probably a flower directly related to the loss of her parents (at least in her mind) and that was why she threw the flower away so violently when Zoey was like "is that for me?"
but GOD, the way Aren wove it all in was so masterfully done. The felt flowers in chapter 5, the balcony scene in chapter 4 and the scene I mentioned above from chapter 2. (and probably more - I need to do a reread)
but DAMN if the scene itself didn't hit so hard. Like of course she thought she would grab it really quickly, she was so young. It makes perfect sense to a child's mind. But of course she also would blame herself now and have that fear response to giving someone flowers.
and it just makes the felt flowers and her seeing them kissing hit even harder.
AHHH and that the flower is called firethorn.
idk, I have a lot of thoughts, but it's very early in the morning, so this is it for now.
here's a few artist thoughts in particular - like I said, as soon as I saw the scene of her reaching for the vase with the light of the fire in the room, I saw in my mind the reflection of her hands reaching, so I did my best to capture that. Luckily, I had a vase that I could take reference pictures with in various lighting.

So, I was hit with the concept last week of having scenes of Rumi's shame inside of her patterns, and as soon as I thought of that, I realized that this series would be the perfect one to fit.
Rereading it to find the scenes that I wanted to use was so enjoyable. It's phenomenal writing (especially in 'if you feel it (could you let me know') and beautiful character work. The way that ev ties certain things together in it is *chef's kiss*.
Oh. as a bonus, here are some of the scenes apart (and before I picked the final colors) and a little peek into my process with the first couple.

I tried to tell a story with each part of this. Not sure how successful that ended up being, but I did end up liking it. It was fun to try out some different techniques.
This came to me while I was doodling on a black background a few days ago. Then, when I thought I was done with it, an alternative concept came to me, and I had to make a version 2.
I just have a lot of thoughts and feelings about masked Rumi and how many masks she is wearing, both figurative and literal.

I just watched a video about students getting their papers falsely flagged for using AI, even when they didn’t, and the advice was things like, “Leave in incorrect grammar,” “If you’re quoting something, don’t copy and paste it, type it out manually because it leaves a metadata trail that you used the copy/paste function and that's a flag,” “Write in the cloud so there’s a version history,” and the one that really got me, “if you find you write in a manner that can sounds too robotic or professional and it gets flagged, go to the writing center so a writing tutor can help you sound more humanly flawed,” and like what the actual fuck.
Like I get that is practical advice, but people should not have to fucking do that. They should not have to train themselves around not sounding like AI, when AI only sounds like that BECAUSE it was trained on them.
I spent so much of my life learning how to write, I shouldn't have to unlearn that because some computer algorithm learned from me.
Hey everyone are you ready for yet another round of AI BULLSHIT well I've got a doozy for you: YouTube has decided to automatically "upscale low-quality videos" with AI, fundamentally altering your viewing experience as a consumer and hobbling your freedom as a creator.
How to opt out as a creator:
Go to YouTube Studio, click on Settings, then click on Channel
Click on Advanced Settings
Uncheck "Let YouTube enhance visual quality"
Uncheck "Let YouTube enhance audio quality"
How to opt out as a viewer:
Click on Settings
Go to Quality
Make sure the AI-enhanced option (dubbed 'Super Resolution') has been switched to "original resolution"
Why this matters:
Aside from adding an incredible amount of energy burn to content without the creator's knowledge, a lot of content was made to be viewed at their original resolution for a reason. No one wants to watch Marble Hornets on 'Super Resolution'. A number of creators have noticed this already happening to YouTube Shorts, where AI-upscaling has led to inaccuracies in technical demonstrations and odd visual distortions.
By hobbling a creator's ability to control what their final product looks like, creators cannot rely on the platform to present their work as intended. It should be an outrage, frankly, to anyone who relies on YouTube to share their work or enjoy the works of others.
