My feminism has nothing to do with men. It is not defined as “equality for all genders”. It isn’t even about equality. I don’t want to be equal with men because I don’t like or want this patriarchy men have. My feminism is about liberation for all women, and an end of the oppression of all women, including women of color, immigrants, lesbians, and trans women. It is about equity- doing what is necessary to ensure everyone has a quality standard of life, has their human rights respected, and is free from oppression. I am not into definitions of feminism that are aimed at making feminism appear non-threatening to men. It IS threatening to them, and it should be.

When you take in a new memory your brains “slows down” to process it and write as much information as possible. When you’ve already experienced something it doesn’t have as much to remember.

#SelfieWithDaughter: Ehsan Jafri’s daughter shares ‘haunting’ reminder of Gujarat riots

Prime Minister Modi recently started the campaign #SelfieWithDaughter aimed at creating awareness about and curbing female foeticide that is rampant in several parts of India. 

Mr. Modi may have come a long way from the days when he was Gujarat chief minister, but some people seem to remember his tenure well, especially the 2002 Gujarat riots that claimed several lives.

One of the lives lost in the Gulberg Society massacre was that of Congress MP Ehsan Jafri. He was brutally murdered by a violent Hindu mob and his house was burnt down on 28 February, 2002.

His wife Zakia Jafri has subsequently argued that the state of Gujarat and its then Chief Minister Narendra Modi was partly responsible for the violence and for the lack of police intervention in favor of the victims at Gulbarg Society. This argument has been rejected by a Special Investigation Committee which concluded that Jafri’s death was caused by his “provoking a violent mob” and that the state and Modi had no responsibility for the incident.

While Zakia Jafri is still fighting for justice, his daughter Nishrin Jafri Hussain on Sunday night shared a photo with her father. In her post, she said, “#SelfieWithDaughter: This one will haunt him for ever”

Got a kindle and need suggestions! I like anything really! Love history but will read anything.

Try The Historian by Elisabeth Kostova. It is historical fiction, which outlines the history of Vlad Tepes (in a stunning amount of detail), and pairs it with a fictional story about Dracula. You can also search Goodreads for historical fiction/non-fiction.

You might also try Bringing Down the Krays by Bobby Teale, a non-fiction book about famous London mobsters the Kray brothers. There is a movie coming out soon about them.

1984. Naomi Novik has a brilliant historical fantasy series called Temeraire. Philippa Gregory writes a lot of historical fiction (I’m not necessarily a fan, but you might be). Sarah Waters for fiction set in the Victorian era. Persepolis is a brilliant graphic novel about a girl growing up during and after the IS lamic revolution. Just off the top of my head.
