Something I always loved about My Babysitter’s a Vampire(MBAV) is that Sarah and Erica are the main protagonists who do all punching/hitting and kicking in the show. It’s not a completely new concept to have female characters be the main fighters or even be the ones to save the day or having the male leads be ones in need of saving. It’s just not as common.

For a kid’s sitcom to have the female love interest(Sarah) be the one who often times be the one to save the male leads is somewhat unique. I liked that Sarah was still allowed to be very feminine while also being the one to do the fighting. Often times the female fighter is more of tom-boy. It is nice that Sarah is allowed to be feminine.

I feel like we never gave My Babysitter's a Vampire appropriate praise for making a black girl the main love interest, cool & fully respected by the cast, and never treated like a joke or unwanted/undesirable for being black in the 2010s. Other shows had the whole "white girl main character with the boy crazy black friend being creepy towards her brother" thing going on. In MBAV the white girl best friend was the one who was creepy and boy crazy.

always amused by the idea of immortal characters who are older than they look but not by a crazy inhuman amount. like a vampire who got turned at 20 but is currently only 56 or something. people start asking about historical events and theyre like sorry man i dont know anything more interesting than your parents. dating scene is starting to get awkward. worst of both worlds all around.

I think my favorite single instant in midnight mass is when bev comes in and sees that pruitt has killed and totally drinked joe and is huddling in the corner covered in blood and she springs into cover up mode like "right um so we need to get you cleaned up and to the church" and pruitt, in the voice of a man who has been awake for thirty-six hours, says "yeah, here's the thing" and briefly puts his hand in a sunbeam to demonstrate the burning, and bev just sighs and goes "lord lord lord" while he kinda shifts in place and groans. real "this might as well happen" energy. yeah, sure, he burns in the sun now. fuck it. that's probably normal.
