Sabine chose to catch!

Sabine and Vulpix were hiking through a forest in search of a suitable picnic location when a loud cry caught their attention. Following its sound, they burst through the bushes to find a young Mareep cornered against a tree by an enraged Zangoose. 

“Vulpix, Ember! Quick!” she said. Vulpix leaped forward, shooting a series of small flames at the Zangoose, taking its attention off of the Mareep. The Electric-type Pokémon scurried behind Sabine’s legs, cowering in fear. 

The battle waged on. Though the Zangoose was clearly at a higher level, Vulpix was managing to stand her ground and dodge most of its fury induced attacks. After watching the exchanges for a few minutes, Mareep decided it was tired of hiding and ran to Vulpix’s side, aiming a Thundershock at the Zangoose. Vulpix seemed to know what it was doing and together, they launched one final combined attack against their opponent. 

With two against one, the Zangoose turned tail and fled, disappearing into the undergrowth. Sabine let out a breath of relief and jogged over to congratulate the Pokémon, “Good job, you two! That was amazing!” The Mareep made a happy sound and pressed its head into Sabine’s hands with a joyful twinkle in its eyes.

“This might sound like a crazy idea, but why don’t you come with us, Mareep? I’d love to have a brave Pokémon like you at my side,” she said, gently stroking the wool atop its head. Immediately, it nodded its head, letting out a happy coo. 

Grinning in excitement, Sabine reached for a Poké Ball in her bag and placed it on the ground before the Mareep. It stepped towards it, pressing its nose against the button. The red light enveloped it and the ball shook from side to side until it made a clicking sound of confirmation.

Sabine chose to battle! She sent out her Vulpix!

Sabine regretted tripping over the Aron in the tall grass earlier, but apparently nothing could be done to calm its anger besides a battle. She’d tried apologizing profusely and even offering food, however it answered by Tackling her and sending her flying towards the ground, which explained her dirty attire.

“Vulpix, dodge to the left!” Sabine shouted. 

The Fire-type barely dodged the Aron’s Tackle in the nick of time. It regained its footing and turned its body around, bright blue eyes narrowed at Vulpix as it used Harden to strengthen its defenses. 

Knowing they had the advantage in this battle due to Aron being a Steel-type, her plan was to primarily use Ember. Not to mention, it was currently Vulpix’s only offensive move. Nodding down at her companion, Sabine pointed at the Aron and said, “Use Ember!” 

Vulpix’s attack was a direct hit, but the Aron hardly seemed fazed. It continued to use Harden, gazing tauntingly at the both of them the entire time.

 “U-Use Ember again, Vulpix!” Sabine called. “It’s the only way! Its defense might be strong, but if we keep it up, it’ll eventually weaken!” 

This exchange continued for quite some time before the Aron finally flinched at an Ember attack. It was getting weak, Sabine noted. Their plan was working! 

“Okay, give it one more Ember attack, Vulpix!” she instructed. 

Vulpix shot one last Ember from her mouth, hitting the Aron square in the forehead. It stumbled back and collapsed, shaking its head  slowly. When it came to only seconds later, it seemed much calmer and toddled off into the tall grass once again.

   “Could’ve been that, or just could’ve been your clothes being too…clean, maybe.” Danny laughed, his smile never changing. “The more experienced trainers usually don’t have time for petty things like laundry or self-care, you know." 

   The Guide pat his Combusken’s head, and as the Young Fowl Pokémon let out a happy coo, looking at his trainer with joy. The man kept going, introducing himself. ”I’m Danny and this is Sanders, my Combusken. I’m the Guide for the entire League- Elite Four, Gyms, the Champion, I’m your guy. Pleasure to meet you, Sabine.“

  ”But, let’s teach you how to catch a Pokémon first, alright?“ He stood there, and pulled a Pokéball out of his bag, holding it between his fingers before activating it. ”You know what this is, right? A Pokéball is a device used to catch Pokémon, though there are actually several types of Pokéballs that have a better chance at catching one.“

  He held it out for her to observe and analyze better.

Although they had only just met, Sabine was soaking up this information like a sponge. She made  a mental note to make sure she made time to keep up her personal hygiene throughout her journey; she didn’t want to be challenging a Gym Leader or meeting someone important looking (or smelling) as if she hadn’t bathed in days. 

Folding her arms behind her back, she listened to Danny’s introduction, watching as he pat his Combusken gently on the head. From a single glance, it was evident that the pair of them shared a close bond, one which she hoped to have with all of her Pokémon one day. “It’s very nice to meet you two!” she replied earnestly. “My Vulpix is resting right now, but I’m sure she’d be delighted to as well.” 

“Mmhm! I happened to have five on me,” she answered. “The clerk at the Poké Mart gave me this as a bonus, too.” Unzipping a small compartment of her bag, she pulled out a white Poké Ball with red lining. “I think he said that this was a Premier Ball? I’m not sure if it’s any good though.”

 The League haven’t had many battles lately, leaving Freyr craving for a battle. The first thing he had to do was to start of somewhere. Agron with it’s large variety of cities and routes left him debating which path to take. Maybe it was best to start somewhere close to the beginning and relive the times he traveled through. The start of an adventure, like one he would have one day around the world outside of Agron. How exciting. Though he’ll never admit to that.

 Nostalgia hit the moment he stepped foot in Primrose City. Freyr figured that the first city wouldn’t have much to offer to him now, so instead settled for the next one. He’s also set up a challenge for himself, seeing as his team is quite formidable. The only downside to being an Elite member. Having Aska accompanying him, the Absol would be the only Pokemon he would use in the duration of his short travel. Of course, Luna his precious Umbreon was with them, snug in her Pokeball. Just as he was about to start, lavender eyes spotted a young girl pacing around oddly. He remembered doing something similar too, but his ego prevented him from asking for directions and he was stuck in the town for nearly two weeks… It’d be a shame if that happened to this trainer too, so armed with years of experience of this region, Freyr approached the young trainer to offer her his assistance.

 “Hey, do you need help? It’s a pretty big city, so it’s easy to lost. I know this place pretty well though.”

For the first time since arriving in Agron, Sabine was absolutely fuming. Her plans for the day involved waking up early, getting ready and heading out into the city to see all that there was. Primrose City was an enormous city, reminding her of the few times she visited Jubilife City in the Sinnoh region. While the latter was aimed more at the entertainment business, this city was full of well-dressed business people walking to and fro. Dressed in her usual attire, Sabine felt she stuck out like a sore thumb.

She soon found out she wasn’t the only Trainer in town, though. A pair of young boys walking behind her must have caught sight of her holding the map in front of her for the next second, the map was snatched out her hands by the snickering boys. 

“Thanks for the map, sis! See ya!” one taunted. 

“H-Hey, give that back! That’s my map!” Sabine protsted loudly.

She reached out a hand to try to grab the map back, but the boy holding it reacted fast and pulled it back. “C’mon, man, let’s get out of here!” the other one urged. The duo disappeared into the crowd within seconds, leaving behind a stunned Sabine. Had that actually just happened?

All this had lead to Freyr noticing a panicked and frustrated Sabine pacing about the street. With no map and no clue where she could purchase another, she felt helpless. Glancing up at the other Trainer as he came closer, Sabine let out a breath of relief.

“I’m... not exactly lost! You see, um...” she tried awkwardly to explain. “Well, maybe a little- b-but I wasn’t! My map was stolen by some kids and now I don’t know where to go... Could you maybe direct me to where I could buy a new map?”

THE OTP TBH.

I think it’s no secret that I ship this a ton in more than one way.

I was thrilled to have a rival for Sabine and I couldn’t have asked for someone more perfect than Valarie! Whether they know it or not, they’re able to motivate each other to become better and stronger Trainers. That’s something important to have, if you ask me. Sure, you can always motivate yourself, but it really does help to have friendly competition to help push yourself along. 

Their interactions thus far have me squealing and I can’t wait for more! I ship it both in a platonic and romantic sense. 

As a romantic ship, I think they’d be really sweet and adorable together when/if it happens. Though it may take some work and they may have to set aside their differences at times, I think that their relationship would be strong and full of care and support. Sabine would be there and have Valarie’s back as she takes her family’s company over and Valarie would be there to encourage Sabine’s dream to become a great Trainer too. 

This ship is a solid 10/10 for me and as I said, I’m psyched to see them interact more!
