Follow Laugavegur, turn right past the yellow/white house and see that little cottage at the back.. that's where I stayed. So super cute.
The rest of this hand drawn map of Reykjavik is also quite beautiful.

Wondering where the F**K you should go to eat or drink? It's easy peasy with Where The Fuck Should I Go to Eat
Red squid re-gifts you a hilarious comedienne for...
The Fourth Day of Christmas:
If you don't know Maria Bamford, you should. She is one of the funniest people working in comedy today. As a Christmas gift to her fans she has created a
One-Hour Homemade Christmas Stand-up Special
Enjoy.
An odd story is the third gift from Red Squid Lab to you:
Third Day of Christmas:
A Christmas story from the incomparable David Sedaris. Holidays on Ice , a series of personal short essays about the joy of the holiday season. was my first introduction to Sedaris' work. I love his dark and hilarious sensibility. Above is Sedaris reading his story Crumpet the Elf on NPR.
Today's Christmas gift from Res Squid Lab is beautiful and sinister.
Second Day of Christmas:
I loved this song when I was a child. It came from a very strange compilation that included Run DMC, Stevie Nicks, Bon Jovi, the Eurythmics, The Pointer Sisters, Bran Adams and more called A Very Special Christmas which was a compilation album produced to benefit the Special Olympics.
So I know that the 12 Days of Christmas are *supposed* to start on Christmas day, and, to be honest, I don't love Christmas BUT I do like sharing things SO in the spirit of the season I give you Red Squid Lab's 12 Days of Christmas...
First Day of Christmas:
Any good designer worth their salt would start with a re-brand. In this case re-branding Santa. It covers all the bases including Venn diagrams, how to 'live' the brand and proper use of the new logos. You can find the whole thing here.
There is something so magical and beautiful about these two videos together. I keep watching them over and over and I find something magical in them both. The first is a London Grammer video that was shot in a giant pinhole camera. The second is film footage from the Victorian age from around the world. It was shot between 1896-1900.

This is beautiful!
I love secret places.
1. The first image above is from the ancient city of Heracleion that was engulfed under water 1500 years ago. French marine archaeologist Franck Goddio and his team discovered this amazing underwater treasure when they were looking for other relics. A 5C story of Helen of Troy tells of her visiting this wealthy city with one of her lovers. More about this secret place here.
2. The Apartment is a project from artist collective Trummerkind. These ballsy artists created, unbeknownst to the mall staff, an apartment inside the mall. It was there for years before it was discovered with the artists decorating ad spending time hanging out in the space.
3. Antelope Lower Canyon is a gorgeous rock formation in Arizona. If you are feeling adventerous you can climb through a tiny cave entrance and emerge in a beautiful, light filled, sculptural cave.
There is a meth lab in an RV driving around the mean streets of Toronto and, if you can find it, you can dive in and try your hand at making the blue. You can figure out if you are a "Walter" or a "Jessie" by donning the suit and mask and see which character springs to life.
Find out where it will be next by following:

Also, I thought you might like to mix your Christmas cheer with your obsession with Breaking Bad so here is a lovely image of a meth lab made out of gingerbread. You. Are. Welcome.
Wil S Hylton wrote a gorgeous articleabout James Turrell's work. It was such a lovely thing to read exceptional art writing that opened me up to an artist I had not heard of and am now fascinated by. Turrell's work plays with light and experience in a way that would be difficult to describe. I am looking forward to being 'in' one his artworks one day.
Trampolines in art, as art, as architecture and an elephant on a trampoline.
FAST TRACK: For the Russian festival Archstoyanie, Salto Architects built a 51 metre trampoline in a park.
SAUT de SEINE: An inflatable bridge equipped with giant trampolines, created by AZC, it is dedicated to the joyful release from gravity as one bounces above the river.
IN ORBIT: Created by artist Tomas Seraceno is an art project that looks like a terrifying hire wire act. Technically it's not a trampoline but has the same general physics.
And, as promised, an elephant on a trampoline:
Joshua Longo. I love love love his monsters. They are my favourite blend of cute and creepy.
I am obsessed with Iceland. From the landscape, to the design/music/art, to the people.. and, in particular, the politics. There have been many countries on the brink of collapse over the past while but Iceland seems to be the only one that has taken the banks and CEOs to task. They are rebuilding and getting stronger but not on the backs of their citizens but with them.
"What happened next was extraordinary. The belief that citizens had to pay for the mistakes of a financial monopoly, that an entire nation must be taxed to pay off private debts was shattered, transforming the relationship between citizens and their political institutions and eventually driving Iceland’s leaders to the side of their constituents. The Head of State, Olafur Ragnar Grimsson, refused to ratify the law that would have made Iceland’s citizens responsible for its bankers’ debts, and accepted calls for a referendum."

I am smitten with Maimouna Guerressi's work. She is considered to be the Sufi Frida Kahlo... I don't think she needs to be associated with any other artists' work, though, as her work is stunning on its own.

I love Kid President.. Here he shares with the world 20 things we should say more often. Ernest, sweet, funny and wise - this kid would make a great president.
