I was wondering why O’Malley never just possessed Lopez, since Alpha and Beta did often enough that it would have been easier on him than having to share a body with Doc. Then I remembered that Alpha said that it was getting harder and harder to possess him each time, like Lopez was learning to fight him. And I just. What is Lopez? There’s no way he’s a typical dumb ai. He’s a smart ai, he was made from scratch, somehow. He can even fight possession, something which, by the way, the only other non-Alpha-based person who was ever shown to do that was Doc, and that was only limited. He must be a smart ai. He must be.

I refuse to believe he isn’t.

Lopez is able to make backup copies of himself and would absolutely be rampant by now if he was even a full smart AI. 

Lopez is a dumb AI that achieved full sentience via pure frustration and spite alone.
