12 Angry People
During my final production at East 15 I did 12 Angry People by Reginald Rose that was directed by Rikki Henry. During the start of process i found it extremely but at the same time really enjoyable especially due to the fact that me and my fellow actors were able to explore and discuss our thoughts towards the two different characters that we each were given and how we were going to structure each scene. One of the main key techniques that i found very useful for me as a individual was being able analyse my script and knowing what was my objective throughout each act and what both of my characters would do in order to complete their objective.
I felt during my first performance during show week i felt very confident with myself and my fellow actors as we all worked extremely hard and put in all the work from the very start of the process and I believed all that was required for us left is to perform in front of a full audience, have fun, and take ownership of the stage. I found Juror 4 character very enjoyable as it was a role that i have never been given before however i loved how the two roles i played in each show was completely different and from total different backgrounds, what i truly enjoyed about Juror was the fact that he was so strategic and how he would wait patiently for the right moment to jump in and state the facts of the case, for example when he begins stating the facts to Juror 8 and said’s “ the boy left his house after being slapped/punched by his father, he went to a neighbourhood store and he bought a switch knife, on the exact same day the storekeeper was arrested after admitting to selling the knife to the boy which he even later admitted that this knife was the only one of its kind that he had left in stock. Now why did the boy get it?, as a present for a friend of his he said’s, Am i right so far.”
Also i enjoyed playing the role of Juror 11 who was a African immigrant who came to seek justice. Before show week i used friends from outside drama school who are from Africa and listening to how they speak when around others which i found useful for me as an actor. This allowed me during show week to have the tension build throughout the play as he was the main character who was looked down upon due to where he was from until towards the end of the play he snaps on one of the Jurors due to the fact that she wanted to change her vote so that she don’t miss the theatre show that she wants to see without caring about the fate of the boys life, for example “ what kind of women are you, you have sat here and voted guilty because there are some theatre tickets burning a hole in your pocket and now you want to change your vote for the exact same reason. I don’t think you have the right to play with a boy’s life like this this is an ugly and terrible thing to do.”
