“That’s all up to you.” Even if it was, she too hoped that she would be. “I do. There is so many amazing things around here. Though, I still trying to keep up with how human do everything. But for the most part being on land isn’t bad.”
“Things can move pretty fast in the human world, not that I have experience in the non-human world. New York is busier than most places in the world too.”
The smile faded from her lips as she let out a, “Oh.” pausing for moment. “ As long as you keep the kind heart you seem to have. Or remind yourself of the good. You have nothing to worry about.” She tried to reassure him. Even though it seem like it was more easy said than done. “ If I have any say in it, it will.”
“I hope you’re right” and really he did. He hoped that he wouldn’t turn into the person a version of his story said he was. He wanted to help people, not hurt them. “So do you like it here?”
“The future is always a mystery. Changing with every choice we make in life. Just right now, this choice could cause you to turn evil in the future for some reason.” She smiled at how silly it sounded. “I just hope that whatever my future is, I’m happy.”
Reed bit his lip at the mention of turning evil in the future. “That’s what I’m afraid of.” He’d had someone at the comic book store tell him about those comics when he asked about the Fantastic Four. He quickly smiled and shook his head, getting those thoughts out of his head “I’m sure it will be”
“That’s good though right? That he has more control over things. If that is what your future could be then you know that it will get somewhat easier.” It sounded like it at least. “ Exactly. This place is full of possibilities.”
“Right. I’m not entirely sure what my future is though. Maybe none of that’s my future. Maybe my future is something else. Maybe yours is something else than what you’ve been told too”
“Oh, okay. That make sense. But what a wonderful goal to have. Making the world an easier place.” She titled her head to the side. “ Hm. And what did this Mr. Fantastic do? Yeah, but that is what someone says happens.”
“I’m not entirely sure, I didn’t read much of the comic books. It felt too weird. I do know he had better control over things though.” he gave a shrug “That’s another universe though, doesn’t mean it has to happen here.”
“So…. what about this one? Maybe?” This was the first time since Bethany had been coming to New York that she went shopping. Searching for clothes. But the brunette mage had no idea what people - especially young woman - were wearing these days. Or what she could afford. She was still holding the dress up into the air. “So, what do you think? Would it suit me?”
“Oh, umm yeah...I guess. I’m probably not the best person to ask about this”
Ariel listen and was intrigued by the others story. “ How did you learn how to make one of those ?Seem like a weird thing to want to make.” It was her curious mind at work. Raising a brow. “ A super hero ? Wow. That must have been something to read. Did you have a power or something? I do, however, know all about finding weird things out about your life. I’m supposedly married to a guy who I’ve never even met.”
“By reading and trying different things. I’ve always built things, wanted to find how things worked, make them even better. Find a way to make things easier for the world. Yeah” he nodded “a super hero. Apparently they call me Mr. Fantastic. That’s got to be pretty weird.”
“I believe that anything is possible. So, yes.”
“I found a way to build a teleporter to a planet in a universe that isn’t ours. Things didn’t exactly go the way I hoped they would. It - some of my friends are dead, and my best friend it - it changed him. Changed us. Still, I’ve heard people tell me that where they’re from I’m a super hero. That my friends and I are a team, and that we save people. That people read about us in comic books. I found one of them the other day. I was - I was older, like a good 15 or 20 years older. Even saw one where I had a kid. That was pretty weird”
“I’m good with complicated…That is if you want to tell me.”
“Do you believe there are other universes?”
“We all have different experiences so. You have a long story?”
“Maybe not long so much as complicated for some people”
“Good.” She smiled. It was nice to know that he did and didn’t think she was some crazy person. “So. Do you have story?”
“I guess I do. I mean, I’m sure we all do. It’s a little long.”
“But you do now?”
“I do.”
“Well, it’s based off my life…I’m that Ariel.”
"If this was over a year ago I might not believe you”
“Have you heard of King Trition?….Or seen a movie called The Little Mermaid?”
“yeah, they played it at school when I was little”
“That’s pretty cool. What country are you from? You don’t have an accent really”
