This is the first time in my life when it's actually fair to criticize the President for gas prices. I've spent so many years explaining to people that Presidents have pretty limited influence over the price of oil and that they do not have a magical lower-gas-prices button on their desk, I almost forgot that the President does actually have a raise-gas-prices button on their desk called "start a war with Iran for no reason"

Once again thinking about Gale saying, "If things were different, if we were home..."

If we were home...

Gale has already been imagining domestic life with Tav. Maybe it's well-paced at times, just imagines making dinner (a confirmed thought he has per the Tara on the roof scene) or meeting up for drinks somewhere or Tav dropping in at whatever serves as office/lab when he's doing big magic work for important people. But at some point, he realizes he doesn't have time for that.

That's why the romance scene unfolds the way it does. Gale is so convinced his death is the only way forward, but when he imagines living, it's with Tav. Pushed to the brink by Mystra's cold wall of indifference to his mortality and inflexible parameters of whatever passes for love or affection from a deity with her history, Gale made the bed he's in and thinks he deserves to die. Not just to restore balance, but because his need to prove himself to her is a kind of sin and he's a creature of devotion.

But still, he imagines making a bed for - or with - Tav. And if you go the man over magic route, he conjures one in an instant. His dreams stop being lofty. He starts just wanting to dream. Loving for love's sake, magic for magic's sake, creation for creation's sake. With Tav, Gale experiences a completely transformative love, and it begins before he ever fully knows it's reciprocated.

Gale reached out of a vessel of unstable magic, AS a vessel of unstable magic, and it made him whole. He spent his entire adulthood at least chasing true companionship, equity, and a foundation with Mystra. He couldn't imagine his life without magic, she plucked him up, of course this had to be the way...

And the absolute worst series of events that could happen happen. And he learns he's lovable, worthy, redeemable, ever-evolving, and a person who belongs. At the center of that, Tav.

Endlessly diabolical how you can't say words like rape and suicide uncensored without either being criticised by idiots or punished by conglomerates.

It's not r*pe, it's rape. It's not su*cide, it's suicide. Not unalive, dead. The backbone needs to be reintroduced en masse because softening the blow of these concepts with advertising language does absolutely nothing but allow people unaffected by them to feel not even a sting of what they can do, prompting inaction.

And it's been proven that on certain websites, you don't even face a repercussion for using the words as they are. People just started censoring themselves because they feared the potential lack of views and likes and followers which is so nasty itself.

I attended an anti-suicide seminar in college. One of the big takeaways from it was that stigmatizing suicide increases the rate of suicide, because people who are feeling suicidal feel like they can't ask for help. Every time I see babytalk garbage like 'unalive', I think of that.
