Joseph had peered through some of the windows, and he had seen similar things like he had seen with the guards. Tense maids had worked, their eyes wandering about, like there was something wrong. Hushed voices behind windows and shutters, inaudible to even Joseph’s good hearing. He’d had to continue on, but he noted the tense glances, the looks of worry from what he saw.
And when Kida opened the window, and he saw how worried she was about someone coming in, he walked quietly in, and latched the window closed again.
He paused, put his finger to his mouth, his good eye serious.
On silent feet, he went to the door, and put his ear and good hand on the ground. No vibrations or footsteps, good.
“I was searching for your friend.” He said quietly as he drew back and then looked around her room, then turned to her, his eyes fixed to hers.
“I found him, I don’t know if he’s arrived yet or not. There was little I could do in forcing him.” He said to her. He felt he had managed to convince him, though fighting him had been an option. But even then Joseph knew that the odds had been against him there. But he would have done it, he had faced similar odds before.
“He’ll arrive when he feels he’s good and ready. But enough about that.” He said as he gently put his hands on her shoulder. “What is going on? Something feels off about this place. Something bad.”
He couldn’t put it into words, but it was a feeling he had felt many times before. In places where the people were unhappy, and under a new ruler that was ruling with an iron fist.
It was a heavy atmosphere that felt like it was fraught with tension and danger.
Kida’s exhaustion instantly melted away, and her look was immediately replaced with a hopeful, excited one, “You met with him? Really?!”
So he was out there? She closed her eyes and tried to picture him in her mind once more... but surprisingly enough, it wasn’t him that appeared behind her eyelids... but someone who looked very similar. Kida internally choked, and opened her eyes again. It wasn’t too surprising - after all, she had hired the Rover because he looked so much like the Yveltal in the hopes he could lead her to him as well.
She embarrassedly pushed the thought from her mind and shook her head, “A lot has gone on since you left...” She hesitated for a second, and looked over at the table in the center of her study. Kida quickly closed and re-latched the window behind Joseph, and then gestured at him to follow her over to a large circular desk in the middle of the room. Jiji stretched and walked over to climb up onto Kida’s shoulders, like an over-sized cat.
She took her seat again, and gestured at one across from her, “I suppose I should start off by saying my Mother is missing... and my Father is dead, and they are blaming my Brother for it. Galar has apparently closed off their borders due to the King’s death too... so we can’t even get any information about it.”
Kida looked down at her documents once more, she felt a bitter laugh form in her chest, “At least... that is what the rumors are saying.” She could understand the over-caution at the Castle right now... but somehow she was not surprised he managed to get in without being noticed.
