“Is this seat taken?” She asked the blonde, sliding in before she even got the chance to respond. The establishment was crowded and there were far worse people she could be sitting next too. Cressida Black, a girl slightly younger than her and someone she’d known for years due to being dragged along to the same functions. She wouldn’t exactly describe the two of them as friends but they both knew how to be friendly. Plus it appeared like they were both alone.

Regina had her own apartment located close to Hogwarts but it was small and mostly held all her essentials. So every once in a while she had to visit her family’s home to grab something. This time she was there in order to return the dress she’d worn to the last event she’d attended. Whenever she went home, she always tried to time it when her mother was out so that she wouldn’t get caught up for longer then she needed to be. She was surprised to run into her brother, though she shouldn’t of been really. “What are you doing here?”

If she was being honest, not many people were genuinely interested in hearing about her job. At least not many people in her family. Which was what made talking to Celene so refreshing. “Not bad, teaching an elective is nice because students choose to take it.” She smiled. If she had to teach kids who wanted nothing to do with the class then that would be torture. For all of them. Though sometimes after a few lessons students do end up regretting their choice. Usually that’s only third years tho, and their all insufferable anyway. “That being said, they are all teenagers so dealing with their dramatics is exhausting.”

Gabi needed assistance. She wasn’t too proud to admit to that. Even though she’d been in the country almost a year now, she still wasn’t that great with British names and faces. They all sort of blended together in her mind. Her coworkers and her friends, those she knew. Her family she’d always known. Everyone else? It was iffy.
Which made hunting down Not-Draco-Malfoy and dropping spiders down his shirt rather difficult. What was she supposed to, just find the ponciest places in Britain and hang around until he showed up? No thanks. She needed a plan.
“Eez there a directory, of wix in zis country?” She asked, staring down at a map from her seat. “Or like, an address book?”

Regina looked up from her table at the French accent. She could recognize the girl, they’d been in the same compartment during the train ride. Usually she wouldn’t concern herself with such troublesome matters but she was a little curious. If it proved to be boring though, she would promptly excuse herself. “Most people just know- especially purebloods.” She commented, closing the book she’d been reading and standing up to walk over to her. “Who are you looking for?” If she didn’t know them, then more than likely he knew someone who would.

having invited her cousin over for tea, celene was sitting in her favorite armchair in the drawing room. she’d decided upon black tea with cauldron cakes to put in their stomachs as they spoke. with regina’s position in the new order, celene rarely got to see her and was genuinely interested in how everything was going in her life. she could still recall the sick little girl regina was and was glad regina seemed to be doing better as she got older.
as soon as the clock turned to 14:00, celene looked towards her fireplace, anticipating regina’s arrival. the moment before the clock showed 14:01, regina appeared and celene ‘tsked’ at her cousin. “cutting it close, aren’t we?” she greeted.
Regina wasn’t too surprised at the invitation to her cousins place and was even less surprised when her cousin commented on her arrival time. “I got caught up with students.” She explained quickly, greeting Celene with a hug. “Next time I’ll be sure to be early.” She told her, though that wasn’t necessarily a guarantee. The girl had a bad habit of being late, something most of her family hated. Perhaps that was the reason why she did it though.

The prompt made Barnaby lower his gaze and give a sliver of a smile. In truth, he had been too wrapped up in his work to promise an evening to himself. The other half of it was because he didn’t like being surrounded by groups of people. He considered himself an introvert and crowds always made him feel like he was being put on a pedestal. Some of his work had been influential to other researcher’s and he didn’t discredit their apparent need to introduce themselves to him instead of over owls. “Work. It’s not as poetic of an excuse. My team and I have been working ruthlessly to capture essence of ivy stone and periwinkle substances for aging potions.”
It was an interesting response, just not for the reason she’d been hoping for. Still, their work crossed paths every once in a while so she was still interested. “Aging potions?” She quirked, raising a brow. “What are you trying to do exactly, make them last longer?” Regina asked. There were a few things they could be doing. Between making them last longer, or perhaps make them stronger in some way. She also couldn’t help but wonder why they were looking into aging potions at all.

“Perhaps you’ll just be a spinster and be unhappy with anyone that comes along. Like mother,” Cassius chipped out, rolling his eyes at the excess comment of being old. There never seemed to be anyone that could come close to being good enough for his sister. Cassius wasn’t with anyone unless he considered Irene; which he didn’t. “I’m hoping mother kneels over before she sees me married off to someone. She and father really put a curse on the whole idea of marriage.”
Regina shrugged, though she certainly hoped that she wouldn’t turn out anything like their mother. Though at least the woman was rich so she at least had that going for her. “Did they?” She questioned, furrowing her brows. “I don’t really remember much from when we were young.” That was mostly in part of her being so sick, her and her father having been so ill. Though only one of them got better. It left her with very little memories. It seemed like it was better off that way though.

Barnaby didn’t regret missing the event due to his work but he was interested in what happened afterwards. It seemed everyone felt the same regardless if they were there or not. There was something unsettling about it but he thought that might have been the purpose behind the antics. Barnaby thought indifferently of it and thought if it was a tactic by the Redeemers then perhaps they would have benefited from it. Everyone seemed lost to a disadvantage including everyone in that room. “I guess that’s good then,” he replied in agreement. “So I hear. I’m glad I missed it then.”
Regina shifted in her seat, moving so that she was now leaning forward. Her elbow on the table, hand holding her chin as she looked at him curiously. “What kept you so busy that you missed out on all the fun?” She asked him. The girl doubted it was anything actually interesting but she still couldn’t help but to wonder. Plus she’d been forced to attend so she wondered what excuse other people had given to miss out on the event. Hopefully it was something more than just grading papers.

“Please. They are awkward as is.” Any room that shared his mother and sister was already centerstage and an expected night of tension. His mother boasted her opinions quite often enough that Cassius could guess her next words. They were usually full of disappointment or condescending tones. “You shouldn’t be a spinster. You’re better than that.” Cassius knew that he didn’t need to talk as he wasn’t married yet either and was still a bachelor. He would rather not see Regina with Flint or Blackwood. “What is your big plan then? I’m sure there are holes in it.”
She nodded in agreement at his statement. Any family gathering was awkward and only seeming to get more so the older they got. “I’m going to wait until I’m your age and then settle for someone who does not meet my standards.” She said rather lackluster. “And I know they won’t meet my standards because I’ve made them so impossibly high that no one could possibly meet them.” Regina smirked. “What’s your plan? Mum might be more focused on me right now but eventually she’ll start bothering you.”

There were many things that seemed to go over Barnaby’s head and he knew that, but by not attending the Halloween event he had chosen to miss out on key details. The synopsis was found in various headlines in the newspaper the next day and Barnaby could barely blink his eyes away as he read what had happened. He knew there were solutions to veritaserum found probably with items in that room. Though it didn’t seem as if that would add any corrections to the errors already made. He was sipping idly on tea outside of the establishment, the newspaper folded over his table as he viewed the castle from his placement. It had been years since he had been there and it felt like was getting closer and closer and crossing lines mentally and literally. The school stood as a range of distractions that had added to his youth and some that he had carried with him in his careers.
“Oh, I’m sorry?” Barnaby said, tearing his eyes away from the landscape to see whoever it was that dropped in the seat next to him. He followed their gaze to the newspaper and shook his head excessively. “Oh, no. No, I wasn’t there that night. I hear it was chaotic though. Were you there?”
The party had been chaotic to say the least. She was grateful that she had left fairly early in the night before completely embarrassing herself. Mostly because she had realized if she stayed much longer then she was going to end up exposing herself in some way. Thankfully nothing happened. Not to her at least, which was the only important thing to her. Regina was a little curious about how it had gone for other people though. Which was how she found herself sitting next to Barnaby. It wasn’t like she didn’t get along with him or particularly disliked him but they usually only spoke in regards to work. “I was.” She said bluntly. “Though I left fairly early. It was quite the spectacle though.”

Gabi is a notorious fry stealer. Regina is most sneaky about it. Cho will steal your fries while maintaining direct eye contact. Gigi’s casual about it. Annabelle will do it when not one’s looking. Viktor’s not sure why he’s here.

Depends on who’s out together. In a big group they’re definitely all Viktor’s girlfriends. Every single one of them. Though sometimes they’re all Gigi’s girls and her one confused Quidditch star arm candy.

Annabelle’s probably the most responsible and has to bail everyone else out, including Viktor, who probably tried and failed to talk his way out of it.

It was not unknown to him that some of his acquittances had been with his sister. Either she had made it known to him, they had told him, or even finding it through the gossip mill which was worse. She was his little sister after all and was smarter and more talented than anyone who crossed her path. Perhaps their mother didn’t imagine them having actual careers after graduation but she was a ghost in his thoughts. “I don’t think it really matters about being with his cousin prior,” Cassius assured, thinking that arranged marriages didn’t consider any sympathies. “You might want to reconsider your rebellion. Her will is all we have. I would rather her money than her affection.”
She raised her eyebrows at him, “And make family events awkward? No thank you.” She laughed. Truthfully she didn’t care too much about the same family thing- but she also didn’t want to let her brother, or mother, win. Her successfully marrying a pureblood that they approved of would hurt her pride too much. The woman knew that she would most likely end up marrying a pureblood but she wanted there to be some resistance to the choice. “That’s why right before she cuts me out, I’ll get married. I have it all planned out.”
