First Impressions and a few photos outside my door!
The Sun is peaking out and shining shyly down on Happy Camp after several days of rain. No we didn’t bring the Rain with you it was already here for the last 2 Weeks so I am told. Now for me personally it is a welcome change from the dry desert world I have been living in for so long. The rain drops on the top of our Motorhome a welcome sound and one I have been finding very relaxing.
For me personally it is like almost stepping back in time a little bit. No I am not saying the Town is behind in the Times, I am saying that the attitude matches better to times when people weren’t so stressed out and hectic all the time. Folks actually seem to take a moment to talk to you and to be friendly. They smile at you and are welcoming here.
The view outside of my little Motorhome is lovely – at least to me! It is the first time in many years that I am sitting by an open window while working. While living in Las Vegas I always kept my windows closed and my curtains in front of it since I didn’t want to look at yet another bit of cement, brick or wall. Here so as I open the blinds I see green grass which is dewy and lush. Yes I see muddy earth but that is to be expected and welcome at this time of season. The Trees have moss on their Tree Stumps something that to my eyes is utterly charming. I can see outside my window and look directly at the local Grocery Store which is right across the street from me.
Here you don’t have to run across the Street praying feverishly that you make it even if the traffic light signals green for the pedestrians to go. There is not traffic light here and often there are spans of time where no car goes by at all.
Time seems to be slowing down for me and that is something both of us desperately needed. I can’t talk about Daniel but for me I can almost feel the stress slowly oozing from my shoulders and sinking into the earth beneath my feet.
It is a lot chiller than where we came from but that too is to be expected and in many ways welcome. This charming little Town is nestled between tree topped Mountains. Take a deep breath darlings and enjoy fresh air.
I can already imagine the beauty which is going to spring up all around me as the flowers begin to grow and the trees sprout their leaves. Everything about this place is charming not just my eyes but soothing my burned out spirit as well.
Here are a few photos just from all around our Motorhome at the Big Foot RV Park where we are staying. I am going to take a longer walk here in the next day or two to show you a bit more of the town. But this might give you the first short impression of what I am seeing.
The RV Park is nice and quiet, the people who are here already friendly and minding their own business. The Owners here are lovely people who are taking their dedication to hospitality serious. Hard working folks who are not only trying to get the RV Park ready for the Season, but at the same time trying to open the little Cafe right in front.
I was able to watch the “Jack of all trades” here in Happy Camp putting in a beautiful little stone floor section in that when done is going to resemble a River Bed. I asked him if he would mind if I took a few photos of it when he gets closer to being done and he told me that I would be welcome to do so. Probably in a few days when he is getting a little further ahead. You can tell he loves his work and takes pride in doing so. It shows in the handy work!
Hospitality is important to the Owners of this RV Park. When we first pulled in we were told to pick out a spot we liked, get hooked up and set up first before coming to the Office in order to take care of the Paperwork. No pressure, take your time, see you in a bit. That is not something you find in a big City where everyone is on a fast forward clock and nothing happens until you paid your dues.
Talking about paying our dues. Daniel and I joined up with the “New 49ers” Gold Prospecting Club today which is located catty corner from the RV Park as well. I was a little worried at first where Daniel would be able to buy the basic Equipment since as I mentioned before Happy Camp does not have a Hardware store yet. Something rumor has it will be coming in the near future. I shouldn’t have worried at all so since the new 49ers have you covered with the basics and bit beyond in their Store. Reasonable prices too.
I just had to take a photo of the cute display case as you can see.
Well I’ll end it here for now since I still have a lot of work to get done today, but I am ever so happy that we decided to come here for the Summer Season. I can see myself already slowly falling in love with this little Town.
Keep tuned for further updates!
