In Pulp Fiction, Jules Winnfield talks about how he has a particular Bible passage memorized, and claims that it's Ezekiel 25:17.

He then recites:

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.

It has bothered me for, like, 20 years that this whole thing is labeled as Ezekiel 25:17.

That passage in the Bible is literally just:

I will execute great vengeance on them with wrathful punishments. Then they shall know that I am the LORD, when I lay my vengeance on them. (NRSV)

Like, canonically, where the hell is this whole-ass paragraph of text coming from?? And it's not even, like, Ezekiel 25:16 and prior. What the hell Bibles exist in this universe?

Why did nobody ever say "Uh, hey, Jules. You know how you like to give that big dramatic monologue before you off a dude? Um, that whole thing isn't Ezekiel. You really only need to say the last part."

Probably because he would just tell them to shut the fuck up. That's why.

I tumbled down a Google rabbithole, and it turns out the quote is from Bodyguard Kiba, a Japanese martial arts film based on the manga of the same name, starring Sonny Chiba as the titular character. The opening of the film's English dub, released as "The Bodyguard" in the U.S., contains that same quote, which is also incorrectly labeled as Ezekiel 25:17.

Basically, Jules saw the quote while watching a karate movie (probably several times, to memorize it that well) and ran with it, either just assuming it was a real Bible verse or that anyone he recited it to would have bigger things to worry about.

Okay this one is slightly better because it’s filled with genuine malice beyond a single fact about me. The problem with THIS insult, however, is that your anger with me specifically is coming through so thick that I can tell you’re attacking me from an emotional place and not a logical one, making it kind of hollow.

Additionally, I have no idea where you got 3 different parts of your argument; sad brony, clown aesthetic, guilt trip over a VR headset.

The clown aesthetic I guess I understand because I talk about my interest in clowns a lot, but that’s like saying I have a “ghost aesthetic” because I like ghosts or a “video game aesthetic” because I like videogames.

The other two I legit have no idea where you’re getting those from, which makes me think that you saw a stray post or two of mine and established an idea of what I must be like in your head from a subjective perspective based on a few strands of information.

This is definitely a step up though! We’ve graduated from grade school to middle-school.

So, while I've watched people like Etho, BDubs, Joe Hills, and others, for ages, there's plenty of Hermits that I've only recently decided to check out more.

In this case, it's Joel. By extension, a lot of what I've seen involves Lizzie, for obvious reasons.

My thoughts on two of them, thus far, are:

joel feels rather chaotic, which is fitting considering pretty much everyone in hermitcraft is at least mildly chaotic

I've accidentally taken a bit of a break from Fallen London (read: I have ADHD and found myself temporarily focused on a different thing to play on my phone all the time).

However, the lead-up to the Seeking Mr. Eaten's Name... experience..., and the early advancement in it, are still genuinely some of my favorite things in any game I've played.

Like I genuinely enjoy that the game itself says, with all but a flashing sign, "DON'T DO THIS. THIS IS BAD. YOU WILL REGRET IT. DO NOT. PLEASE DO NOT."

And then so many options related SMEN for dialogue/quest trees are just like, "Literally everyone will hate you if you do this. You so not have to do this and should absolutely not do it."

Then you pick that option, and the game says, "As we said, everyone hates and thinks you're a weirdo. You should stop doing this."

And it's not even deception. From a game that makes absolutely everything feel like there's something lurking, something hidden, this just slaps you right in the face just like

I think that's truly the funniest part of bragging rights in Fallen London. There really is very little to brag about them, because they are usually foolish endeavours that simply require you to burn costly resources or a ridiculous amount time in pursuit of them. Time that is, because of this being a time gated game, very much real world time. This isn't an hour of grinding. It's months of committing time every day, every few hours, every ten minutes when the candle lets you continue.

I hear them more regularly called "vanity qualities" or vanity projects, and that is far more accurate.

It's somehow very, very fitting for the alternate history Victorian era cosmic horror game.
