Regulus stared at Rodolphus. It was true, Regulus just sucked at history. It wasn’t that he didn’t get it, he told himself, it’s just he doesn’t care. Particularly, not now. Reg looked down at his quill. “Well, now I know that spell doesn’t work.” He muttered to himself, thinking it had to be barely audible to Rodolphus. Turning back to look at him, he lifted his voice to confidently smirk and say, “No. You’re right. Not mine. You got me.”

More than anything, Regulus was ready to do something other than attempt to keep his eyes open while carrying small talk with other students. “Madam Pomfrey frets like she couldn’t fix whatever we get into. Whatever it is, she’s got something for it. Plus, I don’t think either one of us would need her help anyway. At least, I know I won’t.”

Hestia crossed her ankles over one another, leaning against the cold, rough bricks of the outer wall. She dug into her bag, reaching for her book and quietly opening it as people passed her by. When she glanced up five minutes later, there was someone walking by with their shoe untied. She cleared her throat, tilting her head before offering a half-apathetic smile. “Sorry to bother you. Your shoe’s untied.”

Regulus was marching past the crowd with some other Slytherin’s when he heard a voice. It didn’t seem completely directed at him but he looked down at his feet anyway. His left shoe was indeed untied. Stopping to look back, he saw Hestia. Quickly in his mind, her social status’ flashed before it. Only recognizing her from SLUG club, he nodded but merely muttered, “Thanks.”

Regulus tsked. “I don’t think you can’t do it without their approval... just gotta look out for Peeves.” Regulus knew this guy’s name was Kingsley Shacklebolt. He’s a sixth-year, pureblood Hufflepuff, and, judging by his badge, a prefect. “That is, of course, all in theory,” Reg added with a smirk, rubbing his hands together. Regulus knew a lot about the other students. He needed to know who was who, from what family. As do a lot of Slytherins. If you’re going to talk to people outside of the house, you’d better know who they were.

“I’m just laughing because it’s no shock seeing you come out from the kitchen.” Regulus shook his head. “It seems like every time I’m passing the kitchen area I see you either going in or coming out. Sure you don’t just wanna make that your dorm?”

Morrigan and Regulus had been friends for a while and now were dating. There was no girl he was closer to. In fact, every time they hung out, the following day his buds always asked if he “got any”. Despite the fact none of them had ever been with a girl either. 

For a while, all they did was hang out around Hogwarts and talk. Then he developed a crush on her and then, before he knew it, she’d asked him out. He’d definitely been planning on approaching her but she just beat him to it. His pride took a tiny hit when that happened but he didn’t mind too much though. It was Morrigan after all. 

They were a good match so no one really questioned their new status. It was even sort of expected. Morrigan was a beautiful girl and he was a handsome boy. Their families knew each other, as most pure-blood families do, but Morrigan was never as outspoken about mudbloods like their families were. He didn’t mind, but he just assumed she felt the same way as he did. Purebloods are best. While not all Mudbloods deserve death, they still shouldn’t mix. And there’s no point in spending any thought on muggles. It’s just the way things were meant to be.

Everything was fine until he noticed Morrigan’s face. The high from this moment was gone. All blissful thoughts in his mind ran off and were replaced with questions, a slight panic, and an unfamiliar confusion. 

“Morrigan... Are you alright? Did I... did I do something wrong?” He asked his brown eyebrows weighed down over his eyes, looking at Morrigan and rejoining her on the bed. Crying wasn’t supposed to happen. No one ever said anything about crying.
