When to Skip Class?
Reasons to skip class:
- You are actually ill or in pain.
- You are anxious, depressed or dealing with a serious personal crisis.
- You are exhausted and need to rest.
- You have an urgent deadline - focus on the most important task
- You have a lecturer that just reads the notes out loud and doesnāt explain or give additional information - Itās not worth the commute. Teach yourself.
- You have an important personal event
- You have permission from your lecturer
Reasons not to skip class:
- You think the material will be too difficult - learning it on your own is harder
- You are already behind - āIāll stay at home and catch upā just results in getting more behind.
- Your friends arenāt going - not an excuse. Go! Sit alone! Youāll be fine, no one is judging you.
- You feel āa bit illā or hungover - push through if you can.
- You get points for attendance - donāt miss out on easy marks.
- The class is boring - revise or make extra notes to stay busy
- Youāre stressed - missing classes is only going to add to your stress.
- You already know the material - great! It will be some easy revision.
- You have trivial errands to run - you can go grocery shopping/post that letter on the way home.
- Youāll ābe more productive at homeā - spoiler alert: you wonāt.
- You canāt be bothered - remember that you are (probably) paying for your education ā¦. donāt waste your own investment.
Be self-disciplined in choosing which classes to go to, and donāt allow yourself to make up excuses to justify skipping classes that would benefit you.
Throwback to when I was studying french linguistics last month (maybe that was the last time ever cause next year itās an optional subject and I donāt know yet whether Iāll choose it or not). āļøš
