Insane Bertha/George Theory

We’re told over and over again that the Russell’s were a love match which is at odds with Mrs. Russell trying to make Gladys marry for status but she does say “happiness is the by product of a well ordered life.” What if Mr. Russell married for love but she married what she saw as an up and comer and someone worth tying her cart too? Like she clearly loves him now and she probably liked him a great deal when they got married but what if the primary reason she said yes to marrying him was because of his ambition and drive and she thought he could make something of himself? It would explain all the later hints to their marital troubles because Mr. Russell would be debated if he ever found out she didn’t love him the same way from the start. Plus we know she didn’t come from grand beginnings either…just a thought noodling around in my brain
