everyone who he ever loved left him. he'll never forget the unfamiliar look in his mama's eyes when he saw her for the last time. the scornful his expression his father wore and a 'stranger' disrupting his day. or the day lord aphmau disappeared, taking his brothers-in-arms too. he waited, and they returned, but they weren't the same people he once knew.

so when he falls in love with nana, he thinks she'll leave too. it's not a question of if, but when. it takes years until he finally begins to get over the fear. a daughter, and later a son, and dante is finally, at last convinced that maybe, this time will be different. the world wont forget him.

and the day gene comes, the day she asks "do i know you?" proves everything he ever feared. he begs and pleads with her, the same way he did his parents, the same he did with irene each night to just bring his friends back, please

One of my biggest frustrations with this fandom is that there is almost no conversation about the blatant misogyny in the early series. And it always feels like its because it makes their blorbos look bad.

People are so quick to point out how racist early KC was, or how queer identities were fetishised, or how bad and cringe the werewolf racism was. All good and important points to make.

But as soon as you say mystreet Ein was a misogynistic abuser, or god forbid MCD Laurence and Garroth were misogynistic abusers, suddenly its impossible to apply basic feminist film theory.

And if you do bring this up in character analysis, some of the arguments people make against it feel really dismissive in a very concerning way. Arguments like "she lead them on" or "they had their own trauma/issues" feel way to close to IRL defenses of male violence. Like blaming women for "not giving men a chance" or blaming "anger issues" for violent behaviour.

Idk i dont think people who like these characters are bad people or secretly women haters, i just wish there was a wider fandom discussion and acknowledgement of the harmful tropes. Especially since i think it was one of the most prevalent and pervasive problems with jess's earlier works.

(I actually really like falcon claw University because it felt like it was willing to acknowledge this to a degree)

Your given the go ahead to completely rewrite mystreet and its characters what are the changes everyone on Twitter complains about?

- A lot of the later mystreet characters that are introduced are scrapped/don’t have as big of a role as they do in the original series

- Ein is still evil (his backstory and motivations are just fleshed out more)

- Aphmau doesn’t end up with anyone by the end of the series

- Zane’s ‘jury’ in high school is actually shown, instead of just being talked about (Zane isn’t that great of a guy in the PDH series. He has a redemption arc in mystreet, but it takes a while before he’s friends with everyone in the main cast)

- Giving Gene more consequences for his actions in PDH

do you ever think abt how Dante gave aphmau his amulet in s1 to prove his faith and familial love to her and show that he’d never harm phoenix drop despite that being the one final symbol he had of a life where he grew up loved and cherished and known and she takes it with her to the Irene dimension and Dante spends the greater part of 15 years alone and unknown again. probably feeling just as lost and forgotten as he did after gene destroyed matataki or borboros or whatever their village was called. and he never gets that amulet back. no one touch me
