So people may disagree with me on this, and let the. But I think High School is next to pointless nowadays. And I have a list of decent reasons behind it, and yes, High school has some benefits, but at the rate itās going those benefits are going to be outweighed by the disadvantages.
So what I have learned this year from 10 weeks of school, I have learned how to write a resume, which I already knew how to do. I also learned how to do the math for pullys and gears. Which I could have learned in less then a week. Ten weeks though right? I also have learned how to Identify trees, which is a skill that I am glad I learned, attempting to be self sustaining I need to know how to identify things like that in the wild. That actually took a decent amount of time and was worth it.
English, we have been writing many different essays, mine was Writerās block. And after Nine weeks of writing, I have learned nothing new other then the stress from school may have been causing a lot of issues in the rest of school and life.
I did learn a bit about the economy in Economics, grade Twelve. Some things that I didnāt know, some I did. I donāt have a lot of complaints on that one.
I do want to point out that stress levels from school nowadays is intense, like insanely intense. And for what? yes we can use some of the work later in life, but after repeating the same work for the 60th time in the last 5 weeks so we can hold a passing grade? Itās bull shit! The stress caused by high school now has caused it so I have nothing left by the time I am supposed to work on an out of school class for robotics, that I actually have learned a lot from in just the few hours I have worked on it! What makes it worse is I love the class, but school is just so draining that I have no will left to work once I finish the day.
Added with this stress, High-schoolers need to save/pay for colleges, cars, phones, and other things that they may need depending on lifestyle. I mean I know people that have to work a job so that they can have three meals a day! And to deal with the added stress of school on top? It sucks.
I want to point out something else as well, what good does a high school diploma do anymore? Itās a damn piece of paper that says we had enough mental strength to put u with all the bullshit for 4 more years. That diploma will only go so far, you know what brings you farther in life? A job, money, Internships, Apprenticeships, and connections. Any of these things are a lot more effective then a high school diploma! And if someone really gives you a hard time, take a damn G.E.D. test, then you have that. I mean I know people who make $140,000 a year who not only didnāt finish high school, but did it by them selves! No funds no nothing! What they did do is they took a damn G.E.D. test, and worked their asses off.
Now I am not saying that everyone should just drop out, thatās not what I am going at. Not at all. I am saying we need school to be productive in teaching us how to actually do things! Or actually teach us things instead of repeat the same crap for 5 weeks to the point where we no longer give a crap! Hands on classes would help, classes that prepare us for life would help, classes that will teach us things that WE want to know, that would help a lot. Keep work productive and eventful. Keep our minds thinking with out screwing us over with the work load! We have enough stress do deal with without having to worry if we are going to pass the quarter! Or worrying about that one paper with all the repetitive and pointless rewriting of equations. And the occasional math problem to solve with those rewrites, those we could do with out. Thereās no point in writing the same equation 20 items on the same homework sheet when thereās only 20 questions to begin with! Those we can do without, we are not learning anything by the tenth repeat.
Thatās all I have on this rant, if you look through you may find grammar errors and misspellings, I have always sucked with that, even when I was getting strait As and Bs. If you have more to add feel free, or if you have a disagreement feel free to present yourselves. The more information the better things will go.
