Anyways, here ya go.
Little Composer scribbles
this isn’t even funny i just wanna know why the fuck neku knew this off the top of his head
So, Japanese has different ways of reading numbers based on context, and it’s a long-standing Thing in Japanese wordplay to create mnemonics for lengthy numbers by coming up with phrases where the syllables correspond to possible readings (or shortened readings) of the individual digits.
That’s probably where Neku’s getting this, because there’s an old mnemonic for the square root of 3 that goes out precisely as far as Neku knew:
「人並みにおごれや」
It’s read: hitonami ni ogore ya, and means something along the lines of “Be as proud as everyone else is.” (I think? Ogore has a couple slightly different meanings and I’m not sure if that’s the right one here, or if there’s really a way to tell.)
Here, hito -> 1, na -> 7, mi -> 3, ni -> 2, o -> 0, go -> 5, re -> 0, and ya -> 8. And there you are! Root 3.
This kind of thing is known as 語呂合わせ (goroawase). There’s a decent introduction to the subject here: Japanese Numbers Wordplay.
Lullaby For You // The World Ends With You // Out of Control
When has this fucker ever laughed like this, “uwee hee.” He’s absolutely giddy to confront BJ with the phone booth pictures. He’s literally imagining the conversation and thinking of dramatic, biting things to say to make BJ confess.
Got into Omori recently
It’s Trivia Tidbit Tuesday!
In the DS version of TWEWY, you can see a silhouette sitting on the throne during the Room of Reckoning cutscene in Another Day. However, this silhouette was removed in Final Remix!
did not realize you could have more than 4 pin slots until post game
Randomly stuck by emotions thinking about Neku sounding so happy saying, “I’ve got friends now, and we’re getting together for the first time in a week! …See you there?”
Because at the start of the game he’s so depressed and lonely and bitter and hates everybody around him, so to hear Neku sounding so happy at the end of the game to have friends now I am overcome with emotions
"Yeah, bro! It's like your fiery passion slams into the other guy's, like WHAM!"
.... no comment. i think the fandom has collectively decided not to talk about the tin pin gay sex thing, so i won't, either.
actually i will mention that joshua responds to this by saying, "hee hee. sounds like a fun time."
"You're a Tin Pin virgin. What could you do?"
... they know what they're doing here.
but what really gets me is the line from Another Day,
"This kid's the ROY G. BIV of Tin Pin! When he sees a hole, he knows how to fill it!"
because that is so intentional. firstly because of the roy g. biv thing, but also because there are no holes in Tin Pin? so they're obviously not talking about the literal game of Tin Pin, they're talking about gay sex again, which there is a precedent for.
i'm sure if i had more time i could analyze this and come up with a theory about why they did this and go into more details and stuff, but it seems like the fandom doesn't talk about it much, which i understand because Tin Pin is, in-universe, a kid's game played by fifth graders and that's kind of a weird thing to use to talk about sex, but it is very present in the subtext of the game and i think it is, at least, an interesting choice on behalf of the writers/localizers.
(it also might be fun to do a less textually-based, more off-the-rails reading of Another Day as being about queerness and queer subcultures, but that's less analysis and more just indulgence--but it's Another Day, that whole thing is on crack lmao)
See you in Shibuya
This hasn’t been talked about on tumblr yet, but in the interest of safety in the twewy fandom, it should be known that the terf/swerf in question in the sceenshot below runs the joshnekuweek and joshnekuzine tumblrs.
[image ID: A quote-retweet from twitter user @ ZillySqueaks which reads “I detest callouts, but this person is a legitimate danger, and has a moderate reach in the TWEWY fandom due to organizing zines. I can personally confirm they’re a SWERF/TERF. Please, if you have friends who follow this person or their zines, warn them.”
The original tweet by twitter user @ joshneku_week reads: “let us first establish that all these accounts belong to grace, aka udagawachous, aka vulpes_cantus, who runs some prominent joshneku accounts and has recently been recognized to be a SWERF and crypto-TERF.” it is clear this is part of a thread. End ID]
(link to original thread here)
I in no way stand for typical callout culture or harassment. The concerns here are more than “fandom drama” or “discourse.” A terf running a zine means a terf getting access to potentially private information, such as names, credit card info, or even addresses, which can be used against trans folk and sex workers to threaten or harm them.
The link above takes you to a thread which compiles evidence, including official archived versions of each post in question. The twitter has resources on dogwhistles and how to spot radfem/terf rhetoric as well. I encourage people to take the research into their own hands, and look into this themselves.
