Impossible Encounter | Auberon & Xerneas
Ophelia was awed by the presence of the ancient pokemon. Even if she was unfamiliar with the files in the lab detailing what was known to man about the being, she had a very instinctual sense of how powerful this pokemon was, and that it deserved her respect and attention. That being said, she also had pollen all over her face currently, and quite frankly was rarely capable of anything resembling seriousness. As such she reached out with as much poise as she could manage, and gently patted the great deer on the nose, almost as if she weren’t sure what kind of touch was appropriate after it has just prodded at her.
Ophelia might have been composed, but her professor was far from it. He was wide-eyed, frozen in the gaze of the deity before him, unable to believe that this was a thing that was really happening to him. He was visibly shaking, although even he was having difficulty discerning if it was from terror or excitement. For the moment it seemed intent on Ophelia, and his brain was left to whirr in peace for a moment.
Oh dear… oh.. deer! He had never dreamed that this field might be home to the legendary pokemon Xerneas. It suddenly explained the regions near aggressive vitality, as well as its distinct lack of human life. He wished he had planned better, he was terribly unequipped for such a meeting. Xerneas was something that had been on his impossible study subject list, with its potent life energy being one of the key suspects in what enabled mega stones with their power, to be able to meet the source of that energy was a fantasy. Yet here it was before his very eyes. And if he was any good at reading the tension in the air, then it wasn’t terribly happy to have discovered him encroaching on its home.
Ophelia knew this for sure, having received and understood the deity’s message directly. She chirped in minor distress, moving between the immense pokemon and her master as if she would somehow be able to protect him if the pokemon decided to carry out its threat. Her voice wove a quick melody of soft tones, a rather stuttering yet musical attempt to convey to Xerneas that her human meant no harm to the field’s ecosystem.
Understanding nothing of the conversation, yet picking up on Ophelia’s distress, Hawthorn reached out to soothe his distressed cell. He opened his mouth to speak, but hesitated. He wasn’t sure how much good talking to a pokemon that couldn’t reply in a language he understood would do, or even how much English it understood itself. But ultimately it wasn’t much different from talking to his own pokemon, was it?
“I’m sorry,” he started off, part of him desperately wishing he had some of his psychic recording devices in hand and turned on. If he was going to be blasted out of this field, he would at least like some energy readings to show for it. “I didn’t mean to disturb you, I, uh, I didn’t even know that you were here.” Ophelia punctuated his words with soft boops, now tenderly wrapping his head in her arms protectively. Hawthorn did his best to ignore her. “I’m a scientist who studies nearby, I only was looking to see if the pokemon here could aid in my research.”
The stranger’s Pokemon extended one of her filthy arms, and used her hand to pat Xerneas’s nose. Its nostrils crinkling at the various scents that came with the creature’s fingers. A mixture of dirt, and flowers, along with the other various objects that had gotten trapped in her cell-like body, many of which were from the garden itself. Though the smell wasn’t a terribly pleasant one, Xerneas didn’t pull away from her kind touch, or chide her for not keeping clean. Though, it did hope that her trainer would assist her with dislodging the twigs poking out of her body when he had the chance, so the poor dear wouldn’t get caught on anything else.
Bopping Ophelia’s extended hand with its nose, Xerneas wagged its stubby tail lightly in greeting to the Pokemon before its attention returned to the creature’s master. He was a strange man, wide-eyed, and frozen in place. His gaze fixed upon the grand deer, who could only find amusement in the manner in which it was being watched. It could see him shaking. And although this man didn’t appear to hold the same greed within his eyes as others, Xerneas remained distrustful. For past actions were difficult to forgive, even when it tried, and although it desired to do so.
But Xerneas also got the impression that this man might have been missing a few screws, for most didn’t stare long before scampering off, or attempting to claim its powers as their own. This one; however, was a bit...lackluster compared to other humans. He was a curious creature for sure, but Xerneas wasn’t, and despite the mild amount of entertainment this strange man provided, it was not too thrilled to have him within the garden. Mixed with the voices of the thousands of Pokemon screaming at it to rid them of the intruder, it was a wonder how Xernead managed to maintain its sanity.
Tilting its massive head at the other Pokemon when she began to sing out, as if ti protect her human, who appeared at understand that, at the very least, something was upsetting his friend. Watching their interactions. Xerneas relaxed slightly. Turning its head to the Pokemon watching the human, and their guardian. Antlers swaying gently with the movement. It nodded to them, and they scattered, returning to their daily lives with Xerneas no longer viewing this stranger as a threat.
I understand. I will not harm your human, though he is a strange one, he appears harmless, and I trust your judgement, little one. Turning its attention back to the pair, it conveyed its words to the creature through a series of soft, and elegant noises.
It greatly disliked the word, scientist, but it ignored it. Countless of those claiming that title had come and gone, most seeking its power, and to study the fields, many of whom had left without repairing the damage they had done, or the harm they had caused. They were humans who had a habit of sticking their noses where they didn’t belong.
But, regardless, it bowed to the man. Lowering its towering frame, and extending its left front hoof in order for it shift closer to the earth. Extending its neck, it kissed the earth at the man’s feet, causing a collection of flowers to bloom where its mouth had touched before extending its head towards the man. Poking at his coat in an attempt to get to know him better.
