How to tell if you're in a Modern Southern Gothic novel:
You used to be religious, but not any more.
Despite this you make religious allusions constantly.
There’s a ruined plantation house.
There’s an abandoned church.
There’s more liquor stores than actual residents.
Your mother is blonde.
Your father is either somewhere else or emotionally absent.
Teenage girls are a menace.
There’s a factory where most people in the town work.
The town has some sort of ironic name.
The police force is made up of men who just laugh at crimes.
There’s at least one dead child involved somewhere.
You were the real monster all along.

Protection Pouches
These little beauties have always worked for me, and actually seemed to keep my mother from being killed or paralyzed by a bad car accident last year, so I have a lot of faith in them.
You’ll need: 🐝 A small square of fabric, or a small sewn pouch if you have one already available. 🐝 The following supplies: Basil, Cinnamon, Clove, Dill, Mint, Lavender, Rosemary, and Sage. A small black stone or a small piece of quartz or tiger’s eye And one black and one white candle.
Spell Work: 🐝 Place the herbs in the fabric square or pouch while invoking earth. 🐝 Light the candles, the white on the left and black on the right. Invoke fire. 🐝 Meditate lightly to dispell negative energy and press positive energy onto the stone(s), which should be held in your hands. Invoke water. 🐝 Extend your aura over the bag while placing the stone in and tying it shut. Visualize a shield of spirit and invoke air. 🐝 at this point, I find that a lot of people like to preform some sort of chant to better embolden and access the forces: “May whoever keep this charm, Be protected from every harm, Cast off all bane and ill, Upon this wish, I cast my will.” Invoke spirit (active) during this portion. 🐝 Finally, invoke any patron or matron deity you may worship, follow, or are dedicated to. Then cleanse your circle with a smudge of Sage and you’re done!
*a pentagram configuration is certainly not necessary for this, but for some it does provide ease and structure during the ritual.
Best wishes darlings!
💧💦🌼The Element of WATER in Rootwork🌼💦💧
Excerpt from: “ROOTWORK: Using the Folk Magic of Black America for Love, Money and Success” by Tayannah Lee McQuillar
Water is a very powerful element because it is receptive. It is the ultimate retainer of energy and is often used to cleanse a person or space, or to consecrate an object. To attain the various types of waters requires patience and preparation.
WATER & PURPOSE
💧War Water:
For revenge or to place a hex. War water is prepared by taking two cups of water from after a heavy thunderstorm and filling a 32 oz. jar or a bottle until it’s half full. Add nine rusty nails, brimstone (sulphur), and a little of your urine. Store the container in a cool, dry place until ready for use. It is commonly thrown on the front door of the intended victim.
🌼Peace water:
To bring peace and positive spiritual vibrations into the home. Usually made by mixing half a cup of Florida Water perfume, three cups of holy water, eight fresh or dried basil leaves, and three crushed eggshells. It is commonly used as a floor wash. Add twice the ingredients for a larger room.
💧Ocean Water:
Bathe in the water of the ocean for peace of mind. Add a little to your regular bathwater every night if you’re trying to conceive. Dab a little on the center of your forehead (third eye) in a clockwise, circular motion before divination to increase psychic abilities. The third eye is an energy center or chakra associated with spiritual awakening.
🌼River Water:
Consecrate sacred objects for added blessings. Mix it with cinnamon and mop the floors with it for money and luck.
💧First spring rain:
Sprinkle around the house for joy the whole year round. Wash your face and hair with it to remain youthful. Rub on your stomach for fertility and healing. Wash mojo bags with it for luck. Many people who use this spell place a glass bowl out on the windowsill on March 21st (Spring equinox) until the first spring rain.
🌼Full moon water:
Prepare moon water by leaving a glass bowl of tap or spring water out in the full moonlight overnight. Rub on the back of your neck and forehead every nine days to increase psychic ability. Wash your hair with it to stimulate growth. Bathe in it for fertility. Keep a glass of it by your bed for clearer dreams.
💧Holy water:
Use to consecrate sacred objects. Sprinkle around the home to dispense negativity. Clean your eyes with it for clarity.
🌼Storm water:
Place a bowl of plain tap or spring water out on the windowsill and wait until the next storm. Sprinkle on a luck mojo bag to enhance its potential. Sprinkle around the home for desired change. Do not handle if you’re sick. Sweeten the water with a pinch of brown sugar for a money mojo bag.
🌟THE GOLDEN THREAD TAROT🌟
I’ve only just been able to tear myself away from these beautiful cards in order to make this post. They arrived this morning and ever since, I’ve just been handling them and taking endless photos. I swear, it’s impossible to take a bad picture of this deck!

Mobile Witch Kit
This is what I’ve been working on the past week or so! Now if you saw the original concept sketches you’ll notice some differences, like the insert, no longer a tray with compartments. The bones of it are still there, pretty well realized if I may say so.
Antique brass astrology knobs and the hand woven rope handle make it easier to transport.
*The handle can be unwoven relatively easily as it is one extremely long piece of burlap twine.*
The inner lid details are still being worked out, if that’s a removable wooden spirit board, or pockets/loops for a mini book of shadows (copying some of my most used stuff and info and leaving room for new stuff) pen, pencil, knife and other tools, haven’t decided.
Black working ritual cloth and chalkboard painted wooden box make up the first layer. The chalkboard box can be used as pendulum board, mini spirit board, altar whatever you can draw on it.
Contents, top to bottom, left to right:
Bone salt chalk
Poison Oak Berries
Datura Stramonium seeds
Hex powder
Rose thorns
Asafoetida
Lavender
Burlap twine
Amethyst, garnet, onyx, citrine, tigers eye crystal shards
Bottom level has the vial insert, painted gold.
And now the big reveal…all the stuff I crammed in there.
Candles, honey, oil blend, black salt, chilis, witch hazel, hawthorn berries, agua Florida in spray bottle.
Flying ointment, paper charms in every color, wild white sage, patchouli, cardamom, balm of gilead, eggshell powder, charcoal disks, myrrh incense.
Ophidia Rosa Tarot deck, damiana, cloves, valerian, frankincense, matches.

Moon Phases in Hoodoo
It’s really common to see modern witchcraft correspondences for the moon phases, but rarely or never for hoodoo. Frequently the full moon is associated with “light magic” and the new moon with “dark magic” using the classic racist terminology we’re all too familiar with. We also live in a world where books on working the roots that are actually written by black authors are a somewhat rare find, and Lucky Mojo is one of the first Google hits for almost every hoodoo-related search you might make.
So, Spirit Roots presents… the moon phases for root workers! An Africana guide to the lunar cycle. Remember, you don’t have to cast the “right” spell at the “right” time, it’s just a useful boost to follow the moon’s patterns when it feels right to do so or works for your path. Listen to your ancestors, and trust your intuition on it!

Flower Water (Florida Water)
So right off the bat lets settle something. Flower water is Water (Or alcohol - we’ll get into that in a bit) that is infused with flower essence. Florida Water, Is the same thing. Aqua de Florida. Florida means Flower. Yes? Great.
What is the purpose of this water you ask. Well in (Mostly) Santeria, Hoodoo, Or other Spanish magic practices Flower Water is used for a number of things. Blessing, Consecrating, Cleansing, Banishing, even spiritual offerings. Practitioners also use it as an ingredient in ritual baths. You can switch it up depending on your flowers.
As we all know Flowers hold energies that we harvest and use in magic. We can preserve these energies by infusing them into water. Wahhhla. Flower Water. We do this with Rose Water, Lavender Water, Rue Water. Kananga Water. If there is a Flower, you can flower water it. You can choose to use water, Or alcohol for the carrier. Both have their own magical properties.
Personally I lean more towards alcohol because 1.) It’s harsh. Strong. It burns. It has that KICK. Ya know? And 2.) You can keep it for longer. Also. It’s traditional to use alcohol.
But hey, Water is also great its all about personal preference. What ever you choose to infuse your water with is your decision. The carrier does not influence the energy as much as YOUR intentions will.
