My friend Renda Writer has worked tirelessly for FOUR years to make his dream of performing his beautiful poem, “Half Hearted” on her show. He is a big fan, a great people person and a relentless man!
In an effort to get closer to his dream and for Ellen’s birthday - he curated “The 2nd Annual Ellen Degeneres Art Show” in downtown Los Angeles.
Here is Ellen Degeneres herself, talking about 2 of the 67 paintings that were part of a national art show that Renda Writer curated, hosted, and produced. The event benefited The Trevor Project which is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth.
So proud of you, Renda!

This is me, performing my poem, "Half Hearted," in Central Park, which is the place that inspired me to write it. My goal, and my dream, is to perform this poem on The Ellen Degeneres Show. I think her Valentine's Day episode would be the perfect outlet for it. What do you think? (Please Reblog)
Since 2007 it has been my goal, and my dream, to perform this poem on The Ellen Degeneres Show. I think the world really needs to hear a romance poem right now, and this poem relates a poetic metaphor between the half-heart-shaped neck of a swan in Central Park and the universal human search for love and romance. I wrote it in Central Park, shortly after 9/11, at a time when I felt like the world could use a romance poem, and I still feel that way. I really think that Ellen Degeneres and her viewing audience will enjoy this poem, and hopefully it will help to open up doors for other poets to begin appearing on daytime talk shows. I have the worst memory ever so no matter who comes up to me - they’re just, like, ‘I can’t believe you don’t remember me!” I’m like, ‘Oh, Dad, I’m sorry!’

This portrait of Ellen Degeneres was done by my friend Kyle Willis with a simple Papermate pen. It was a part of "The Ellen Art Show," a group art show in Miami last year that I organized and hosted. I'll be doing "The 2nd Annual Art Show" in January of 2012 in Los Angeles as a fundraiser for an anti-bullying nonprofit organization. For more info on that: http://www.EllenArtShow.org.
This portrait of Ellen Degeneres was painted by South Florida graffiti artist, Kelo (http://www.keloism.com) and was part of The Ellen Art Show, an art show that I through during the week of Ellen's birthday last year. I'll be hosting and producing a "2nd Annual Art Show" in January of 2012 in LA, with 50 portraits of Ellen Degeneres, by 50 artists from NYC, LA, and Miami. More info about it here: http://www.EllenArtShow.org.

This portrait of Ellen Degeneres was painted by my good friend and fellow artist Carlos Solano, as part of last year's event, "The Ellen Art Show" in Miami. After the show, I flew out to California, where I dropped this painting, as well as 9 others, off at the mailroom for the show. Carlos will also be doing another portrait of Ellen Degeneres for the upcoming event, "The 2nd Annual Ellen Art Show," to take place in Los Angeles in January, 2012. For more info on the event, please visit http://www.EllenArtShow.org.
This portrait of Ellen Degeneres was painted by Robert Korhonene, and was featured in "The 1st Annual Ellen Art Show" in Miami, on January 22nd, 2011. "The 2nd Annual Ellen Art Show" will take place in Los Angeles in January of 2012. For more info, http://www.EllenArtShow.org.
This portrait was painted by South Florida artist Lori Pratico (http://www.LoriPratico.com) for the "1st Annual Ellen Art Show" last year in Miami. It was exhibited and auctioned off. The "2nd Annual Ellen Art Show" will take place in January 2012 in LA. More info at http://www.EllenArtShow.org.
