Seriously. Could that arrival have been ANY more conspicuous? At all?
One of his earth boxes is just full of fireworks for the occasion (sadly waterlogged 😔)
But yeah no this is what happens when you play yourself by eating all the people who operate your ship and the last guy dies repelling you and your little corpse hands from touching the wheel. Push that shit to shore yourself, loser
I’m finding that I really like Renfield. He is the old lady who swallowed a fly and he will do it again.
one interesting thing about the dracula daily format that I didn't really pick up in my initial dracula read is that lucy's sleepwalking starts well before dracula is even close to england
im not sure if this is meant to show how early she was his target
or if it was meant to show that this habit of lucys (and her general unease) preexisted dracula
i feel like its the first one, which makes it doubly interesting why most adaptations select mina for dracula's reincarnated lover and not lucy
Whitby. 9 August. – The sequel to the strange arrival of the derelict in the storm last night is almost more startling than the thing itself.
"Dracula" - Bram Stoker
I like to think Leon's beast form is like a one night a month/full moon thing, so the rest of the time this is Leon's interactions with Dracula.
There's something hilarious about Dracula being like, "Well. I don't know how to drive a boat. But! I know how to manipulate the weather. Let's see if that does it."
October 3rd
I've been meaning to create an illustration for Dracula for a while now of this scene, I absolutely loved reading it.
Later. – By the kindness of the Board of Trade inspector, I have been permitted to look over the log-book of the Demeter, which was in order up to within three days, but contained nothing of special interest except as to facts of missing men.

And now back to our girl Mina
8 August.—Lucy was very restless all night, and I, too, could not sleep. The storm was fearful, and as it boomed loudly among the chimney-pots, it made me shudder. When a sharp puff came it seemed to be like a distant gun. Strangely enough, Lucy did not wake; but she got up twice and dressed herself. Fortunately, each time I awoke in time and managed to undress her without waking her, and got her back to bed.
I wonder if this is another of Lucy's sleepwalking episodes that gets thwarted because of Mina's alertness.
Somehow I felt glad that Jonathan was not on the sea last night, but on land. But, oh, is he on land or sea? Where is he, and how? I am getting fearfully anxious about him. If I only knew what to do, and could do anything!
GET MINA AN UPDATE ABOUT JONATHAN PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
the day people stop being gullible and stop villainizing Vlad Drăculea bc they don’t get their facts right is the day I MAYBE find peace

A good deal of interest was abroad concerning the dog which landed when the ship struck, and more than a few of the members of the S. P. C. A., which is very strong in Whitby, have tried to befriend the animal.
A little bit of historical details for this entry, the S. P. C. A. or the The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is the oldest animals rights and welfare organization founded since 1824, and it still exists today.
They were responsible from implementing the Cruel Treatment of Cattle Act of 1822, to banning bear and bull baiting in the Cruelty to Animals Act of 1835, they also raised awareness towards the cruel treatments of dogs and pets at the hands of the victorian public. So for Mina to mention them in passing after the arrival of the Demeter, and the escape of the Count via wolf transformation, it could be possible that in the years where Bram Stoker was writing the book this Whitby branch of the Society was focusing on the welfare of working animals on ships and boats.
Here is one of the posters they made to keep aware of the cruelty towards pets, and to hopefully decrease it.
