As strange as it seems to add an entire scene whole-cloth, I'm realizing it's a part of the bigger shift in the AU to being explicitly about idols. Metaphorically, the men on the train are the worst you can get out of idol fans and Sayaka is disgusted to help people like that in any way shape or form, and if, in the AU where they simply are idol fans and where Shiho's sister (deceased) was the industry's poster child of male longing, it's easy to recreate the train scene.

but, yeah, idol fan runs the gamut. Minori isn't even typical for a female fan because of her romantic attraction to Haruka. Mizuki likewise also isn't a typical idol fan. So, in a chapter with the train scene we also need a new scene redeeming idol fan spaces as havens for people who are just a little weird and lonely and in need of somebody to believe in.

#It remains one of my favorite headcanons that Mizuki is a diehard Shizuku oshi. I mean. her reaction to Ena mentioning Shizuku's name when #Mizuki clearly already knew Ena knew Airi in person.#It also enables Shizuku to haunt the narrative Even More than she already is. Although Mizuki may already be dead in the AU.

The deeper I go into this AU, the more convinced I am that Madoka is about the idol industry.

#Young girls become idols under false promises from a misrepresentation of what it means to be an idol.#Veteran idols are broken haunted or disillusioned. One is fixated with telling a girl full of joy love and hope to never become one.#The wish is why the girl wanted to become an idol; Sayaka wanted to become Kyosuke's hope in the face of his despair he'll never play again #Kyouko's father seems to have inspired a love for humanity in her and she could spread it as an idol while making some money to support him #I don't know how Mami or Homura translate. but Madoka wants to become the kind of idol who inspires other idols too. not just fans.#The obsession with contracts. Kyubei being a man.
