RSA Evaluation
I was as involved in this project for the first month as was at work and my timetable clashed with the times I was need at work. I didn’t do much for the project in the first month either as I didn’t know what I was doing or how to start the project. After I came back from Christmas break I had a talk with Danny and he told me that should do a storyboard and we should go and visit the sea life centre in Birmingham with him to get an understand of the fish forms to help with the project but also to help with any upcoming project we could have. When I came break from break I spoke to Mandy and Danny about I should do in the project and what still need to be done as I didn’t do anything over the Christmas break other than caught up on lost sleep, when I spoke to them they told me to do background that they could use in the animation.
I processed to create a number of different background ideas that could have been used in the animation, Me and Danny had a conversation about what else we could do and thought about using ink in the to bring something different and to add another moving element to the animation and then we would meet up as a group on Friday or something to put the animation together. The following we had to give a presentation with the animation that we did so far, our group showed the animation that man has created and we should the stuff that we did with the ink and backgrounds, we were told to spilt as a group and create different animations that would fit to the each of the different styles that we show in the video presentation. Me and Danny started to work on our own animation, using the ink as our base and working our way outwards to create the rest of it.
I looked up a lot of thing to do with different types of animation and different styles, different materials that were used to create the animations. I looked up different artist that use animation to create their work. I thought about trying out the different styles of animation but I didn’t get that far with my time management as that’s not one of my skills that I’m good at, I will need to work on that in my next project.
We talked about using typography for the most of the animation and then using the ink behind but with the time we had to work with we did small gifs that could be dragged into after effects and to add the audio too. Danny created the gifs an I used after effects to stick them together and into a long video that would be for the whole of the audio track. I did some typography for the title of the animation and I did some in my sketchbook.
I like doing this project as it was very simple and quick to make an animation in a few days with the methods that me and Danny was doing, it may not have been simple to Danny as he had to create all the gifs that go along with the animation and that’s more time consuming than working on after effects. I would like to know more skills on Photoshop in order to help out with my next collaboration project as I didn’t know much and had to rely on Danny a lot of the time to get the gifs done so I could do the video and send it to him and upload it to YouTube, I have had some technique problems that with YouTube as it takes a very long time to upload or it wont upload at all.
I think that if we had more we could use made a better animation where the transitions between the scenes could be a whole lot better, and I think if had done more research on how to silhouettes in illustrator could have helped more with what we wanted to create for the animation.
I have done a little bit of animation before and that was using stop motion on an iPad when I was at college, I thought that maybe that would be using stop motion to create the animation, but that not the way the animation turned out and I’m very happy about that as I wouldn’t have leaned a new skill using after effects, and doing so learning the basic for making animation myself with the help of Danny. I had a difficult time working out how to fix the time duration and the speed of the audio and also the video animation, I did ask Ian to help me with and he told me to look on the internet which I did but that didn’t help me very much as I didn’t understand what I was looking at, so I asked Tony Davis and he showed me how to fix the duration and speed of the video. I will be using the Lnyda.com to help me with growing my knowledge of the many adobe software that they have on the site.
