when i saw rent for the first time my friend said "hey there's a trans character" and five minutes into the musical my brain was like "oh okay, obviously it's roger, this depressed mess in a hoodie" and when i got to "one song glory" and he went from "pretty boy front man" to "in the eyes of a young girl" i was even more sure bc i thought he was talking about himself and then we met angel and i was shaken when i realized she was who my friend was talking about and anyway this is a longwinded way of saying roger is a transman

I took the liberty of going through the rest of this rentsecrets blog and I can say that 25% of it is pretty safe and the other 75% of the content is offensive and other things (I won’t say in order to avoid this post from being flagged.) So here are some more of these posts.

I feel Dear Evan Hansen in a similar way that I felt Mark from RENT. It’s not the exact same thing, but the feelings are very similar - dealing with isolation and detachment.

Sometimes I wonder what Mark’s up to in 2019. Is he still around? If he is, is he still in touch with Maureen and Joanne? Are they still together? How long did Roger, Mimi, and Collins have left on Earth after Rent ended? Does he just go and sit at their graves in silence on days the weight of the world weighs on his shoulders? Does he go and stare wistfully at the corner where the Life Cafe used to be? Does he tell kids at pride he has friends that would’ve been so happy to see them there?

Did Mark Cohen capture it all on film, and is he alone?
