Thanks to the gentle persistence of @always-the-2nd please see below for five things I love about myself.
1. On the whole, I am an extremely positive, happy individual. I laugh freely, love large and try to find the silver lining in most situations. I’m often asked if I’m “always like this” or if I’m “ever in a bad mood.” Trust me, I absolutely have my moments. But, I do tend to be effervescent in how I come across. I’ve always been taught to share my smile with others as you never know how your attitude can affect someone else so I try to spread joy as often as I can.
2. While I am not a natural sharer of things (don’t you dare touch my food) I do love to give to others when and where I can. Yes, I am selfish of my time and mental capacity (though I try not to feel guilty of that) but I do try and make others top of mind to be generous to in other aspects. I love giving compliments to people I know or to random people I come across. I love seeing something that reminds me of a friend or family member and sending it to them out of the blue (although I really should start saving these to give at Christmas but I think surprise gifts are much more fun!). I like buying lunch or coffee for friends. I just really take pleasure in making other people feel good so I want to do as much as I can to help.
3. I am easy. No, I’m not referring to the bedroom (but I am that, too) ;) I’m referring to how easy-going I am in life. Yes, I have strong opinions about certain things but overall, I tend to go with the flow. I have no problem standing up for myself and what I believe in (which is a development over the past five years) but once I’ve said my piece I will do what works best for the majority. I don’t believe this to be a lack of backbone or character as I won’t do something I’m against but I also won’t cause a stink that affects others. I take care of myself and others and try to be accommodating when possible.
4. Lately, I’ve noticed that decision-making comes extremely easily to me. I know what the right thing to do is and I go with it. When I come across a problem I evaluate it, choose a path and move forward with a solution. Perhaps this is due to being in therapy most of my life but it’s a skill I wouldn’t normally think to be proud of although I recognize this ability doesn’t come naturally to everyone and it’s something I’ve learned to truly appreciate in myself.
5. Whether it comes to work, family or friendships I am absolutely one you can count on. If for some reason I’m unable to help out I will absolutely communicate that to you ahead of time, so you aren’t left in a lurch. I won’t commit to something I won’t go through with, so I am able to be trusted as someone to come through. Please note that this drive is almost entirely based off avoiding guilt so I’m able to live a guilt-free life if I stick to promises and go through with commitments. Whatever works, right?
Thanks for the hardest assignment ever @always-the-2nd! Alternatively, having this time to reflect and be introspective isn’t something I’ve practiced in a long time so I appreciate the nudge to do so.
