The Tack Shop of Lexington is Lexington's newest English Tack Shop in town. We carry Bits, Boots, Blankets, Show Clothes, Products, and more!
This is the tack shop that the UKDET team endorses. I have gone multiple times and I have never been impressed with the service or products offered. The prices are expensive and the customer service is very lackluster and leaves a bad taste in the mouth from the staff indifferences. Why would the team want to endorse this kind of store?
Otterbein is the first away game for the UKDET IDA team. This team clearly has a very competitive and well rounded team that will be hard to beat. This can be both good and bad for the other schools. It promotes good competitiveness between schools but also makes it hard for schools just entering to feel like they have a chance at winning. How are the teams scored to make them nationally ranked?
Lexington city crews are cleaning up a well-known statue outside of the old Fayette County Courthouse.
The vandalism that occurred on the confederate statue is proof that the statues should be moved/destroyed. They are causing conflicted feelings in the lexington populace. This occurrence is a good reference for our topic as to why the statues should be removed. I am glad people are making a stand against these statues, since I strongly believe they should be removed.
Lexington Mayor Jim Gray has decided to keep controversial statues of Confederate figures John Hunt Morgan and John C. Breckinridge outside the former Fayette County Courthourse, but wants to add historical context to the statues and more diverse public art to the courthouse square.
This article is specific to the states at the courthouse in Lexington. The statues are as of now staying, but there may be moves to change that in the future. This is very relevant to our issue due to the changes that may be made in that future. I do not care for this issue besides that fact that I think the statues are offensive and should not stay no matter the history.
A Confederate monument will be removed from a spot near the University of Louisville campus where it has stood since 1895.
These statues that are in Louisville were removed this summer. This is related to our topic because the statues at the courthouse in Lexington are to be staying. This will be a good source to include as to why the statues are remaining in Lexington while they are being removed in Louisville. I am actually not interested in this topic.
There are many LLP’s available for freshmen to enter into. These LLP’s allow for students to have a welcoming community ready made with a specific thought of their preferred topic. What if there isn’t a LLP that speaks to you? Is it possible to create more LLP’s?

The University of Kentucky Dressage and Eventing was started 4 years ago, but there is little information as to who or why it was first created. Who started it and why. What led a group of people decide to create an Intercollegiate dressage team when they probably owned their own horses. Did they originally start with a coach or just used what knowledge they had?
The benefits of horseback riding are innumerable and are shared among all horseback riders. CHA gives a list of 15 benefits that horseback riders enjoy.
Just like horse back riding has its drawback’s it also has its benefits. This post will focus on the benefits of horse back riding specifically for college students. A main benefit of horse back riding is psychological health. For many college students often suffer from stress and anxiety after leaving their home and going into the world on their own. Horse back riding is a calming and physical way to relieve that stress and have someone (or thing) to connect to. For students that can’t find conventional ways to relieve stress and loneliness what should they do before they resort to self destructive behaviors? Horse back riding!

This post is about Living Learning Programs and the benefits related to them. Living Learning Programs have been proved to improve studying habits and critical thinking. What happens to students who don't join LLP’s? Based on statistics, they seem to be in a worse position for college readiness. So should LLP’s be mandatory to join the first year of college?
Each year in the United States, an estimated 7 million people ride horses. Riding as a sport has a certain amount of inherent risk due to the fact that a rider's head when mounted in the saddle may be up to 4m or 13ft above ground level and horses are capable of moving at considerable speeds and can be unpredictable. The rate of serious injury per hour, is estimated to be approximately the same for horseback riders as of that for motorcyclists. There appears to be little difference in the associated risk of suffering a head injury between Western and English styles of riding. The risk does however increase in the disciplines of racing and eventing. Head injuries not only occur while physically riding a horse, but can also occur while on the ground as a result of being kicked in the head, injuries that are sustained while grooming or cleaning a stall, during farrier or veterinary activities, or simply while spectating. The focus for this post is the risks that come with being involved in equestrian sports. This website primarily focuses on head injuries but they do include statistics of general injuries and deaths. With horse back riding and related sports there all always risks. If a school decided to have an IDA team they are putting their students in risk of being seriously injured or killed. Is it worth it to put yourself in such risk in order to compete?

The intercollegiate Dressage Association allows people who would otherwise be unable to show in dressage a chance to follow their dreams. The only problem is, how does one know how to get on the UK team, and how to participate?

The clubs on campus related to sports allow students to start a new sport that they are interested in, or continue with one they started in High School or Middle School. Sports based clubs offer opportunities to have friendly rivalry and compete for you school, instilling a sense of pride.
Despite there being no questions on the original post, I am really interested in this topic and I have some questions that I want to answer that are relevant to my research.
Does the team allow everyone who joins time to ride? Are team you required to have your own horse?
The team has tryouts at the beginning of the year which costs 25$ and only 8 people in total are chosen to compete. If you wish to compete on the eventing team you are required to have your own horse due to safety reasons. I have learned this in my time on the team as a competing member.
How can someone with no riding experience get on the team at the lowest level? If they can’t, is it really fair?

Living Learning Programs offer a place for college freshmen to belong. These programs offer a community to support you as you start college, and get you started on the right path with study skills and time management. The only problem I find, is that there aren’t a lot of these programs. I personally didn’t find a program that related to me at all, and I know several other freshmen who agreed with me.
Is there a way to create more living learning programs, or expand them to include more people?
The subject of this post is the 2016 Common Reading Experience book, Orphan Train.
One thing I thought was really interesting about the assignment, was it gave everyone something to find in common with each other. It allowed all the students who read it to be able to start up a conversation with other students about if they had read it or not and if they had liked it. Something I thought was unexpected about the book was the fact that the book took place in Minnesota, where I lived until I came to college.
If the school really wanted us to read the book, why didn’t they make it for points or require an online class to go with it?
The question I am answering is why they didn’t make the common reading experience worth points or have an online class corresponding with the book?
They actually do have a class that has points based off of reading the book. That class is UK101, which I take. The class is explained as mandatory, but advisors don’t push taking the class very hard.
Why do advisors not really care if you take UK101 or don’t?
One of the biggest surprise about UK is how many dogs there are around on campus. With programs where students can help train service dogs it makes sense. The students take the dogs every where with them, even to class, but what do professors think about having the dogs in their classrooms? Do the professors think they distract from learning or are they fine with dogs in the classroom?
Questions pertaining to service dogs that the original poster asked were what professors thought about these service dogs, and if they thought they were a distraction?
I have no doubt that some people don’t treat their dogs like service dogs and that can lead to distractions. Also another factor that can lead to the dogs being a distraction is people not understanding how to treat service dogs, people will come up to the dogs and start petting them or cooing to them which is incredibly rude and inappropriate to the owner. They are a working dog for a purpose. I witness this inappropriate treatment of service animals everyday. To answer the question, I don't believe the professors can have an opinion on service dogs because they might not know why the person has a service dog and to say that they aren't allowed because of personal preference is inexcusable.
Ignorance can not be excused for these incredibly important animals with incredible responsibilities. How can people be educated about the proper treatment of service animals?
This is a picture of the wild cat statue. The wild cat state is a sense of pride for most people related to the University of Kentucky. Sadly there are some people who may not like the statue or the college. Would it be possible for the statue to get stolen or damaged by people?
This is a link to the schedule for upcoming events at the Cats Den. The Cats Den is a temporary students center while the new building is being built. The student center offers a variety of different activities for students. A lot of these activities seem to be repeats though. Is it possible for students to offer ideas for potential activities?
