jeevastmâ:
â sâokay. thereâs nothinâ to hear. â most of it involved bumming around from place to place and sporadic moments of fun sprinkled in, but there were no concrete ties that led back to him, as matt expertly kept himself hidden that way. if it werenât for matt pouring all of his efforts in trying to follow mello after wammyâs⊠who knows where heâd be.
he snorts softly at the mention of mello and his body begins to slump off the couch, lazily stretching an arm to grab a stray block in the vicinity. â yeah⊠yeah, melloâs hasnât changed in that way. â  all of them have in some wayâ as little or big those changes are. matt, on one hand, took up the ever so dangerous habit of smoking, as his biggest change. going on five years straight now.
â exciting? â  amusement ghosts across his face, flashing near a small grin. â big city. new experiences⊠everyone needs a little excitement in their lives. even you, near. â where they found that excitement might differ for them both but hey, matt thinks itâs a good thing for him.Â
( a good thing for all of them.)
matt fiddles with the piece in his hand, looking at it with a thoughtful stare then holds out the block for near to take. screw it. he might as well. â i pissed him off, you know. mello. â a deep sigh passes and irritation from earlier makes itself apparent. he figures near would either entertain his poor venting or completely dismiss it, leaving matt to his own devices. â wellâ more like he got pissy at me about something i did then i got mad because he was beinâ a dumbass about it which made him angrier. âÂ
||  â ââ near simply nods. itâs easier, sometimes, to let someone else simply speak. heâs something of a good listener, and though he canât turn off the part of his mind that tries to pick things apart, he doesnât analyze anything matt is saying actively, certainly not with any effort behind the action.
itâs good to hear mello hasnât changed. or at least not much. of course some level of change is inevitable, given what happened, in the end. before the end, even. still, near is comforted by a degree of stagnancy. things had a tendency of happening much too quickly. the respite isnât unwelcome. and the city manages to be exciting despite the stagnancy.
he worries, just for a moment, about growing rusty due to a lack of time to practice his skills. then he ultimately decides it does not matter. heâs unlikely to lose the sharp edge he carries with him no matter what actually happens. perhaps this shouldnât be a comfort, but it is. â i suppose some excitement wonât hurt. it can be sort of nice, so long as itâs relatively controlled. â
and thatâs the key, isnât it? a degree of control. near doesnât particularly like not feeling utterly in control of a situation, but...
this is a strange new world, after all. he needs to learn new ways to exist, both in general and among mello and matt. learning experiences.
at mattâs next words, he gives a slow nod. near hasnât known mello to be anything other than pissed off more often than not, but heâs also used to being on the receiving end of such ire. matt, it seems, is not as used to it. â he dislikes feeling like heâs made a mistake, i suppose, â he says carefully. itâs probably nothing matt doesnât already know, but... perhaps itâs worth saying anyway.
â thatâs natural, to a degree. i hope he is willing to listen once he calms down a little. he should at least apologise, hm? â
