INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE | THE VAMPIRE LESTAT ā 3.02 āToledoā

gina gershon as corky
bound (1996)
i love that louis' "i flew in because i care" is completely in-character facetiousness and ragebaiting lmao
everyone on twt is like "aw louis is so kind to check on him" ..... no ..... my classy lady DOES care, but he's sure as fuck not going to admit it earnestly to lestat at this point; he's going to be patronizing as FUCK. plus we're viewing him through lestat's eyes, and lestat is absolutely going to amp up the judgmental tone.
imagine telling your husband that his music is so bad that it's a clear cry for help .... iconic
(again, to an extent, the irony is that it IS a cry for help. under all the baiting and ridicule, louis can still read lestat, still can't help but keep tabs on him in the best ways he knows how, and ones he knows will infuriate lestat besides. delicious, delicious food. these two will never just fucking TALK to each other and whenever they get close to doing so their walls go back up. IDIOTS IN LOVE.)
and i said thank you GQ Hype
THIRD HIT IN A DAY OMG

Lestat disrespecting pronouns makes complete sense. Lestat is a misogynist and has a billion layers of internalized racism. His scope of empathy is confined to his own identity. He will challenge homophobia and any criticisms against his identity and choices but he won't do the same for others.
Like we saw that man dismiss Louis' very valid anger at the white businessmen in Storyville. He didn't lift a finger to actually help in a meaningful way, and when Louis killed Fenwick(?), his reaction wasn't to reflect on why Louis chose him of all people to kill. He thought Louis had gotten around to killing, which is blatantly not the case. Lestat did exactly what he did with Louis; say surface level things and commentary while not behaving any differently. That is literally the root cause for why his relationship with Louis fractured.
He loves Claudia but it's the same with her too, he never saw how her race and her previous experiences as a human impacted her ability to trust and function in the world. I know the whole train interaction is being challenged as a complete lie, but something Lestat did made Claudia feel like he saw her sexual assault as trivial.
Lestat in pop culture is a queer icon, a symbol due to how much he deviated from that time's norms. But in-story he was still rather, I don't wanna say conservative but, more conforming than you'd think.
June 8, 2004: My Chemical Romance releases Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge
LGBTQ short film in need of support!
Hey friends, and friends of friends I'm hoping this will reach!
As those who follow me know, I am deep into pre-production on my first short film, "Order for Owen," which I wrote and will be directing with the support of Bay Area production company Tricky Ink Productions, under their Training Ground Films initiative.
"Order for Owen" is about Owen, a young, Asian-American, trans man, who is just starting to go out in the world using his newly chosen, gender-affirming name. He debates whether or not to come out to his housemate, Ty, who he secretly has a crush on. Meanwhile, Ty is doing some self-discovery of his own.
Pre-production has been a major learning experience, both for myself and this young production company I'm working with. As a result, we are officially launching our fundraising campaign a bit late in the game.
The good news is, the initiative has fiscal sponsorship through Redwood City-based film organization BraveMaker, which makes contributions to our campaign tax deductible.
If you or someone you know (it's Pride, hit up the allies in your life!) is interested in supporting us:
āš DONATIONS CAN BE MADE HERE šā
And more information on Training Ground Films can be found here! (This includes info about the initiative, the first short they made, and my short!)
And whether or not you are someone who can contribute to the campaign, spreading the word is so meaningful to me too.
Thank you all, and please feel free to message me with any questions! š
fwiw i've learned to just like....not listen to rolin on a lot of stuff. even most recently, with his thoughts on whether louis asked armand to wipe his memory, he made it clear that his answer was from his perspective only, and that his writers and actors may (probably) have differing views.
ultimately it's inconsequential. whether louis asks or not doesn't negate the abuse and manipulation he experiences at armand's hand, nor does it undermine his quest for the truth in the first 2 seasons.
similarly with lestat's scars, the reasons for louis leaving those out of his narrative is irrelevant. i like what sam said about the scars having nothing to do with louis' story because it's just that--LOUIS'. i also like the fanon/jacob's opinion that he doesn't want to think about what in lestat's life led to those injuries. either way it DOESN'T MATTER. it doesn't NEGATE the highs, the lows, and the abuse he experienced in his relationship w lestat.
what we have to watch out for is fans USING these opinions by the showrunner and crew to justify calling the Black protagonist of the first two seasons an intentional manipulative liar, denying the factors of his abuse and the power imbalance he was trapped within, in contrast to lestat "setting the record straight." that's where we have to use our critical thinking skills, people. i truly do not believe the season is going to have this POV at all. maybe i'll be unpleasantly surprised, but so far i really don't think it makes sense to catastrophize.
